A useful fit for

A prepared commercial computer setup needing Letter, Legal or A4 duplex within the 1,500–5,000 monthly recommendation.

The main tradeoff

Extra inputs and wireless hardware are optional. Personal jobs delete at power-off, mobile protocols and exact body depth remain unconfirmed, and the printer has no scanner.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a direct USB computer automatically duplex A4 with 600 ordinary sheets and temporary PIN release?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a compatible driver. Exact original input and duplex columns support A4; the ordinary counts assume both trays contain that size. Personal jobs require the documented PIN routine and delete at power-off.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the network connection also scan and copy paper originals?

Fails those document needs. The exact P3015dn is print-only and contains no scanner, feeder or copy hardware.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the evidence confirm a unit-body depth no greater than 16.5 inches?

Fails this selected depth requirement because exact depth remains unresolved between the original guide and exact US/brochure dimensions. Measure the actual assembly and allow additional opening access.

A compact starting supply with included duplex

The HP LaserJet Enterprise P3015dn is a useful earlier reference for a prepared office that wants monochrome computer printing, automatic second sides and temporary PIN release. Its standard assembly combines 600 ordinary sheets with Gigabit Ethernet and USB. The deciding limitation is that extra paper inputs, wireless networking and encrypted hard-disk storage are separate accessories.

The exact US manufacturer record identifies CE528A#ABA and marks it discontinued. This review concerns that documented low-voltage configuration, without claiming current stock or a particular used printer's condition. The exact US page's commercial Class A restriction is retained, despite a different Class B statement in the older North American brochure.

Choose the document and driver before the duplex checkbox

The original comparison names CE528A as P3015dn and explicitly includes its automatic mechanism. The actual media table independently confirms Letter, Legal and A4 through the duplexer. That matters more than a generic series claim that a printer supports two-sided pages.

In the original Windows workflow, use paper face up in Tray 2, open Finishing and select Print on both sides. Choose Flip pages up when the intended binding is along the top. The normal lower and duplex paths are limited to 60–120 g/m²; media that prints through the front path is not automatically suitable for the turning mechanism.

The original guide also contains platform-specific loading directions that are not identical across its Macintosh and general orientation sections. This review relies on the actual Windows lower-tray routine for the described setup. With preprinted forms, confirm the exact driver instruction and a correctly oriented document rather than assuming every platform uses the same face and edge.

Keep the inputs configured for their real stock

The front multipurpose tray holds 100 sheets and the lower drawer 500 at HP's ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² basis. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. Six hundred sheets of a selected size assumes both contain it; a mixed collection of forms and plain stock divides the total.

Open the front extension, stay below the tabs and height marks and bring the side guides against the edges without bending the stack. Remove the drawer to adjust its side and rear guides, keep all four corners flat and return it fully. Do not fan paper or refill an input while printing.

The original panel accepts the displayed paper configuration with the back arrow and changes it with OK. Match the driver's size and type to that actual setting. Choosing by type can protect letterhead from a plain-paper job, while an unrestricted front tray can behave differently and suppress its normal prompt.

Hold a document until the right user is present

Windows Job Storage provides Personal Job with a four-digit PIN. To release it, use the folder button or Menu and Retrieve Job, select the user and job, choose Print or Print and Delete, enter the PIN and select the copies. This is a specific compatible-driver routine, rather than a promise attached to every possible application.

The guide explicitly deletes Personal, Proof and Hold and Quick Copy jobs when the printer is switched off. Names can receive a number or overwrite an earlier document according to the chosen driver option. If storage space is needed, older stored work may be removed. Keep the original file available.

The encrypted EIO hard disk remains optional. Its security and archival functions should not be silently added to the ordinary temporary PIN workflow, nor should a generic secure-erasure label be treated as proof that every retained byte has already been sanitized.

Use the computer port and local network for their stated jobs

The rear USB 2.0 connection uses a separately purchased A-to-B cable no longer than two meters. Gigabit Ethernet is included for the shared queue. The original network setup prints a configuration page to find the address; compatible software and the embedded Web interface then use that address.

The front USB host is a different walk-up route for specified file types. It is not the computer cable connection and it adds no scanning. This exact model is print-only, without a flatbed, feeder, copier or fax. An optional wireless server or parallel EIO card is also distinct from the included connections.

AirPrint and Mopria are unconfirmed for the reviewed configuration. Bonjour, IPP and a generic trademark credit do not establish an actual mobile printing arrangement, so a phone cannot inherit the computer driver's duplex or PIN promise here.

Give envelopes a straight route

Use only Tray 1 for up to ten 75–90-g/m² envelopes, face up with the short postage end leading into the printer. Set the actual envelope size and type and use laser-appropriate material. Opening the rear bin and its extension provides the straightest path, with face-up output in reverse order.

The open rear output makes automatic duplex and the upper output unavailable. These are separate everyday routines: close the rear door for normal duplex work, and do not move it while a job is printing.

Compare workload and physical access

HP recommends 1,500–5,000 monthly pages, distinct from 100,000 maximum duty. Original one-sided speed is up to 42 Letter pages per minute, separately 40 A4. CE255A and optional CE255X yields follow ISO/IEC 19752 conditions; no current cost per page is inferred.

The agreed width is 17.6 inches and height 12.4, with brochure weight of 35 pounds without the cartridge. Exact depth remains unconfirmed because originals differ. Measure the actual installation and allow opening, cable and service access. Verify the actual 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate; compare P3015x when a genuinely included 1,100-sheet supply would reduce the need to refill.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact originals declare up to 42 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 40 A4. Recommended monthly volume is 1,500–5,000 pages, distinct from maximum duty 100,000. No test result or duplex-speed figure inferred.

Paper handling

Included front 100 plus lower 500 totals 600 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets; actual Letter/Legal/A4 checkmarks establish both inputs and included duplex mechanism. Full selected-size supply assumes both contain it. Set guides, keep corners flat below tabs/height marks, do not fan or refill during printing, and match panel and driver size/type. Original Windows routine loads Tray 2 face up and selects Finishing/Print on both sides, with Flip pages up for top binding. Generic loading-table and original Mac automatic-letterhead directions differ; platform-specific instructions should not be combined. Lower and duplex paths 60–120 g/m²; front ordinary range 60–199. Up to ten 75–90-g/m² envelopes go only in front, face up/short postage end entering, with correct size/type. Open and extend the rear output for a straight face-up reverse-order path; close it for duplex and do not move it during printing. Additional inputs are optional.

Scanning arrangement

This is a monochrome print-only printer without a physical scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copy or fax function. The four-line text display and generic software names do not add scanning hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet and rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 support a compatible computer driver. Original USB cable is A-to-B, at most 2 m, and purchased separately. Front host USB serves specified flash-drive files rather than the computer cable. Wireless print servers and parallel EIO card are optional, not included connections.

Supplies and declared yields

Original replacements are CE255A/55A and separately purchased high-capacity CE255X/55X, with declared average yields of 6,000 and 12,500 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Original box lists a full-capacity approximately 6,000-page cartridge, not an included 55X. No installed remainder, current supply price, stock or cost per page inferred.

Software and support

Original Windows Job Storage offers Personal Job with a four-digit PIN. Use the folder button or Menu/Retrieve Job, choose user/job, select Print or Print and Delete, enter PIN and copies. The guide explicitly deletes Personal, Proof and Hold and Quick Copy jobs at power-off. Names may gain a number or replace an existing file according to driver selection; storage pressure may delete oldest jobs. Reviewed promise is the temporary Personal Job routine with available memory, not an installed encrypted hard disk, permanent archive or secure-erasure guarantee.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CE528A#ABA is discontinued and establishes the documented 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz edition. Verify actual plate and compatible driver; separate high-voltage edition is not convertible. Exact US commercial Class A restriction differs from the older brochure’s Class B statement; retain that discrepancy and use the more restrictive installation guidance. Agreed body width 17.6 inches and height 12.4; exact depth remains unconfirmed because US/brochure 16.2 differs from guide 15.7. Brochure weight is 35 lb without cartridge, while guide rounds to 35.1 lb without a stated basis. Measure actual assembly and allow full opening, trays, cables and service access.
