Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can one USB arrangement print, copy, scan Legal in color and fax with 260 included print sheets?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, compatible computer print/scan software, ordinary stock in both print inputs and a separately connected configured analog fax line. Legal scanning uses the one-sided feeder.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the M1319f scan a book on a flatbed?
Fails the flatbed requirement. This is a sheetfed scanner; its feeder excludes fragile originals and is not a book-scanning bed.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it scan both sides of a document automatically over Ethernet?
Fails both the network and automatic duplex-scanning requirements. The computer route is USB, and two-sided originals require manual flipping.

The HP LaserJet M1319f is an earlier monochrome laser multifunction printer for a compatible USB computer, loose-sheet color scanning and ordinary analog fax. It can copy without a computer. Its important physical limitation is the sheetfed scanner: there is no flatbed for books or delicate originals, and two-sided documents need manual attention.
HP's exact US page identifies CB536A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. This review covers its documented US 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz edition. Separate 220–240-V machines are not interchangeable, and the original warns against converting voltage. Inspect the actual electrical label and condition.
Keep the paper supply separate from the document feeder
The standard printing inputs are a 250-sheet main tray and a genuine ten-sheet priority input, totaling 260 ordinary sheets. The 30-sheet automatic document feeder holds originals for scanning, copying or fax; those pages do not increase blank-paper capacity. The 100-sheet output bin is a separate limit.
The original counts normal input at 75 g/m². Letter, Legal and A4 fit both print inputs, with the full selected-size count assuming both hold that size. Priority paper feeds first, making it useful for a short run on different stock. Keeping forms there instead of plain paper divides the reserve.
For the ordinary main-tray routine, load the printable side down and top forward, adjusting side and rear guides. When replenishing, remove the remaining stack and straighten it with the new paper rather than fanning it. Match type and size in the print driver; panel default paper settings separately govern copying.
The original permits one suitable envelope in the priority input or up to ten in the main tray, below 90 g/m². Choose the actual envelope size and approved laser media. Labels use the priority input one full sheet at a time; the detailed table excludes labels from the main tray. Do not borrow ordinary-paper counts for those special jobs.
Two-sided work is an attended process
Automatic print duplex is absent. In the Windows driver, select Finishing and Print on Both Sides (Manually). If unavailable, the original enables Allow Manual Duplexing under Device Settings or Configure. After the first pass, remove unused input paper, straighten the output without changing its orientation, return it printed side down and press OK.
Two-sided copying also means flipping the original and, for a two-sided copy, reinserting the output in the priority input. The manual describes hand collating. That is not automatic two-sided scanning, a reversing feeder or a single-pass scanner.
Start computer scans in the compatible software
The feeder takes up to 30 ordinary originals within its media limits. Insert the top edge first, face down, with the first page at the bottom. Set its media lever for a single page or multiple pages, slide until Document loaded appears and snug the guides.
Remove staples, clips and correction material. The guide excludes photographs, fragile originals and small originals from this feeder. A sheetfed glass strip is not a book-scanning bed. Legal, Letter and A4 loose sheets fit the documented feeder range.
With compatible USB scan software installed, start HP LaserJet Scan from the Windows program group, choose a destination and Scan. The original also supports TWAIN/WIA applications and describes HP Director on its period Macs. These are computer-started routines; the copy and fax panel buttons do not establish standalone scan-to-email hardware.
Color scanning is real even though printing remains black only. The original distinguishes TIFF computer output from document-email PDF and allows format selection in software. Readiris OCR needs its own installation; receiving an image file does not make its text editable automatically. High enhanced-resolution figures should not be confused with the exact support page's 600-dpi optical specification.
Give fax its own line and setup
The built-in handset and RJ-11 fax/telephone ports serve analog telephone work, not Ethernet. HP recommends a dedicated analog line. Configure time, date, header and answer behavior for the actual line. A connected answering machine needs the printer to answer later; the original says voicemail is unsupported.
The USB computer arrangement can coexist with that separate phone connection. Fax does not travel through the USB port merely because a computer is present. DSL, PBX, ISDN and VoIP need provider-specific equipment and settings; the guide does not guarantee digital-service compatibility.
Check software, supplies and working space before choosing it
There is no included network connection or wireless radio. USB is the supported computer route, with the US cable separately purchased. The Windows installation waits for the installer to request cable connection; the original Mac procedure differs. Check that both printing and scanning software actually work with the intended present-day computer before committing to this legacy device.
The original declares a starter cartridge around 1,000 average pages and replacement Q2612A around 2,000. These are maker declarations, not a remaining-toner or cost-per-page promise. EconoMode saves toner; Archive print is a distinct output setting aimed at reducing smearing and dusting.
One-sided speed is up to 19 Letter ppm, separately 18 on A4. HP recommends 500–2,000 monthly pages versus an 8,000-page maximum duty. Published width is 16.9 inches and weight 22 lb. Depth and height conflict across source versions, so check the actual machine with its trays and original supports in working position. If books, automatic duplex or network sharing are essential, choose hardware expressly built for those routines.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original exact configuration states up to 19 one-sided Letter ppm and separately 18 A4 ppm. Copy cpm and ADF scan ppm are different operations and are not used as print speed. Exact US recommends 500–2,000 monthly pages, distinct from 8,000 maximum duty. No measured quality, noise, speed or reliability result claimed.
Paper handling
The included main tray holds 250 ordinary sheets and the priority input ten, totaling 260 at the original 75-g/m² basis. The 30-sheet original feeder and 100-sheet output are separate. Actual size-table columns confirm Letter, Legal and A4 in both print inputs; selected-size capacity assumes both contain that stock. Priority feeds first. Ordinary main loading is printable side down/top forward; adjust side/rear guides and straighten remaining paper with new stock without fanning. Match driver size/type; panel defaults separately govern copy. The detailed plain table controls over a different light-media count. One suitable envelope fits priority or ten main, below 90 g/m²; labels use priority one full sheet only. Manual Windows duplex uses Finishing, with Allow Manual Duplexing if necessary. Remove blank stock, return printed sides down without changing orientation and press OK. No automatic print duplex.
Scanning arrangement
Sheetfed scanner with a 30-sheet ADF and no flatbed. Load face down/top entering/first page at bottom, set the single/multipage media lever, slide until Document loaded and snug the guides. Do not feed photos, fragile or small originals, staples, clips or correction material. Exact US named Letter/Legal and explicit 5.83×4.13 to 8.5×14-inch range cover ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. Color scanning is separate from monochrome output. Actual two-sided copying requires flipping originals, reloading output and hand collating; there is no automatic duplex feeder or single-pass scanning. Exact US 600-dpi optical matches the original feature summary. A generic later settings paragraph mentions higher hardware/enhanced numbers; no optical upgrade is inferred. Windows HP Scan, TWAIN/WIA and the original Mac HP Director are computer-started USB routines. File format depends on destination and software; Readiris OCR installs separately.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact US configuration has computer USB 2.0 plus RJ-11 fax, phone and handset connections, with no network readiness or wireless capability. RJ-11 is not Ethernet. The US USB cable is separately purchased. Original Windows installation waits for the installer prompt; the period Mac installation has different steps. Check compatible current printing and scanning software independently. Normal standalone copy and analog fax can coexist with USB computer work; fax does not travel over USB and no network mobile route is established.
Supplies and declared yields
The original declares approximately 1,000 average starter pages and 2,000 replacement pages; its exact supply crosswalk identifies Q2612A. No separate ISO yield basis was established in these sections. Maker averages are not installed remainder, guaranteed real-document output, price or cost per page. No blanket third-party supply promise.
Software and support
The original describes Windows HP LaserJet Scan destination/Scan, TWAIN/WIA application scanning and period Mac HP Director file/email-attachment routines. Panel copy/fax buttons do not establish standalone SMTP scanning. Readiris OCR needs separate installation. Included 32 MB RAM and 4 MB fax flash memory do not establish PIN job storage; PIN, AirPrint and Mopria remain unknown. EconoMode saves toner; Archive print separately reduces smearing and dusting. Analog fax needs the actual telephone line plus date, time, header and answer settings. An answering-machine arrangement requires the printer to answer later; voicemail is unsupported. DSL, PBX, ISDN and VoIP compatibility is not guaranteed.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US CB536A#ABA is explicitly discontinued and requires earlier-reference opt-in. Original low-voltage column and US specifications document 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz, distinct from 220–240-V editions; do not convert voltage. Width 16.9 inches and weight 22 lb agree. Original depth/height 17.3/18.1 differ from US 10.5/13.3, with working-position basis unresolved, so depth and height remain unknown. Inspect the actual plate, condition, installed supports and compatible computer software. Allow input, output, document, cable, ventilation and service access. No live stock or seller-condition promise.
