Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can USB black-only desktop reports use automatic duplex with paper size flexible and a 2,000-page monthly requirement?
Qualifies. Standard automatic duplex and the recommended maximum of 2,000 monthly pages are established. A selected exact duplex paper size would require additional confirmed size evidence.
Explore this need in the finder →Can an AirPrint device use Wi-Fi Direct for ordinary Legal printing?
Qualifies when Wi-Fi Direct is enabled and the device joins its signal. This is a separate peer route, with no automatic-duplex or PIN-release promise added to the mobile job.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the same Wi-Fi printer scan paper originals to the computer?
Fails. Smartphone camera scanning in an app is separate; the M209dw has no physical scanner.
Explore this need in the finder →A small black-document printer with several connection choices
The HP LaserJet M209dw fits a small office that prints black text documents and wants automatic two-sided printing without a large machine. The exact US configuration, 6GW62F#BGJ, includes USB, Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi, plus one 150-sheet input tray. Its limitation is scope: it prints only, with no physical scanner, document feeder, copier or fax.
This is the non-e model. Its setup software can request an account and Internet access for relevant app functions, but the read material does not establish the e model's lifetime HP+ commitment for this configuration. Choose the exact suffix deliberately. This dated product reference also makes no claim about current stock or a particular offer.
Choose the route before setting up the software
Direct USB suits a nearby computer using compatible print software and a separately supplied cable. Ethernet connects to a router for network sharing. The original guide says plugging in Ethernet automatically disables the infrastructure Wi-Fi connection, so treat those as alternatives. Wireless setup uses the printer's Wi-Fi network controls and the app's add-printer process.
Bluetooth is used to discover the printer during setup; it is not a Bluetooth printing route. Network selection, device permissions and the correct printer queue still matter. The original guide refers to HP Smart, while the current US page calls the software HP app. Check the supported installation for the actual operating system instead of assuming every historical software instruction remains identical.
AirPrint and Mopria are listed for supported mobile printing. A suitable shared network is one arrangement. Wi-Fi Direct is another: enable it, join the printer's peer signal and use the supported mobile print process. The original guide specifically describes AirPrint on that direct arrangement. These routes do not establish held-job PIN release or every mobile application's duplex controls.
One tray handles ordinary paper and occasional envelopes
The sole input holds up to 150 ordinary sheets, with Letter, Legal and A4 documented. The read specification does not give a paper-weight basis for that stack rating. Its supported media-weight range should not be turned into a promise that 150 heavy sheets fit. There is also no second standard cassette waiting with a different stock.
For normal loading, remove the existing stock, straighten the new stack, load it face up with the top forward and adjust the guides. Do not mix sizes or change the stack during printing. Legal loading may require leaving the cover open, so its working depth matters more than the closed-body measurement alone.
Envelopes use the same emptied tray as a separate routine, with the postage end toward the back and the print side up. The 100-sheet output tray receives finished work and is not additional input. If frequent stock changes are disruptive, look for a configuration with a documented additional feed path.
Automatic duplex does not resolve every paper question
Automatic two-sided printing is standard. The read sources do not establish its exact supported size list, so this review confirms desktop duplex when paper size is flexible and leaves specific duplex-size matching unresolved. Merely listing Legal as supported input does not prove Legal automatic duplex. Mobile duplex is likewise kept separate from the desktop arrangement.
The declared Letter black rate is up to 30 pages per minute. HP recommends 200 to 2,000 pages monthly, separately from a 20,000-page maximum duty figure. Use the recommended range for workload planning. Neither the maximum nor the promotional speed language is a measured result from this review.
Supplies, space and the practical boundary
The US box declares about 700 black pages. Replacement W1340A and W1340X cartridges declare 1,100 and 2,400 pages respectively under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Actual yields vary. HP's dynamic-security policy requires a new or reused HP chip and can block non-HP chips after updates; that policy should be understood before choosing supplies.
The exact body is 13.98 by 11 by 8.07 inches and 12.35 pounds, with a larger listed working arrangement. The US power specification is 110–127 VAC at 50/60 Hz, rather than universal voltage. Keep loading and service space available. Choose this model for straightforward black printing; select a documented multifunction or color printer when paper originals or color output are part of the job.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact US Letter black up to 30 ppm. Recommended 200–2,000 pages monthly is separate from maximum duty 20,000. No A4, duplex or actual measured speed is substituted for Letter simplex; automatic duplex hardware does not establish a measured two-sided rate.
Paper handling
One standard and maximum 150-sheet input tray; ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are positively supported. Capacity weight basis is not established; supported 60–163 g/m² is a media range, not an invented stack basis. Original Legal loading may require leaving the cover open. Automatic duplex is standard, but exact supported duplex sizes are unconfirmed. Envelopes use a separate face-up loading routine in the same emptied tray. Output 100 is separate.
Scanning arrangement
Exact specification is print only with one black toner cartridge. Complete original parts/control panel have no physical scanner, original feeder, copier or fax. App smartphone scanning/mobile fax language does not add those printer functions; LED refers to the control display rather than an LED print engine.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB 2.0 device, 10/100 Ethernet and 2.4/5-GHz infrastructure Wi-Fi. The original setup automatically disables infrastructure Wi-Fi when Ethernet is connected. Wi-Fi Direct is a distinct supported peer printing route; Bluetooth helps app discovery only and cannot print. USB/network cables are separate.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact US box declares about 700 black pages. W1340A 134A replacement declares 1,100 and W1340X 134X 2,400, on ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing basis. Actual yields vary. Dynamic security requires a new or reused HP chip and may block non-HP chips after firmware updates; reused HP chips permit reused/remanufactured/refilled cartridges under the stated policy. No running-cost or current-availability claim.
Software and support
Original HP Smart setup adds the printer and may prompt an HP account/registration. Exact current page calls the app HP app; Internet and account are required for relevant app/full functions. This non-e configuration is not assigned the e model’s lifetime HP+ commitment. Shared-network AirPrint/Mopria and separately documented Wi-Fi Direct AirPrint are distinct from USB desktop printing. Mobile automatic-duplex settings remain unconfirmed. EWS/security passwords are not evidence of held-job PIN release.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US 6GW62F#BGJ body is 13.98 × 11 × 8.07 inches and 12.35 lb, cartridge basis unspecified by exact row. Maximum listed arrangement is 13.98 × 16.8 × 10.43 inches; allow tray/service access. Exact US power row specifies 110–127 VAC at 50/60 Hz, supporting this US low-voltage edition rather than universal voltage. Current reference does not assert stock or a discontinuation date.
