M3035xsIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A wired office within 2,000–6,000 monthly pages using configured SMTP email or a compatible network folder, plus a separate suitable analog line for fax.

The main tradeoff

USB does not deliver scans; fax needs its own configured analog line. Network destinations need permissions, and duplex scanning reverses originals rather than using one pass.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can M3035xs combine Ethernet print/scan/copy/fax, automatic Legal duplex and Legal color scans with 1,100 sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, compatible driver, configured SMTP email or credentialed compatible folder, and a separate suitable configured analog fax line. Exact xs includes 1,100 sheets, Legal glass and reversing duplex ADF.

Can its duplex feeder meet a single-pass scan requirement?

Fails. HP explicitly identifies the ADF as reversing, not single-pass.

Can a USB-only installation provide scan files to its computer?

Fails. Send to Email/Folder require the network route; the USB type B port is for printing.

The xs adds fax, a cassette and a convenience stapler

The HP LaserJet M3035xs is an earlier monochrome multifunction printer with color scanning and network digital sending. HP's original US selection guide identifies the exact configuration as CC477A. This review concerns its documented 110–127-volt, 60-Hz configuration. It includes the base model's automatic print duplex, color scanner and reversing ADF, plus analog fax, a second 500-sheet cassette and a 20-sheet convenience stapler.

Those additions suit an office that still needs a compatible analog fax line and more loaded paper. The convenience stapler is a local finishing aid, not a promise of an automatic in-line finishing system. Check that the actual xs unit retains the fax connection, lower cassette and stapler; family capability is not evidence that an incomplete offered machine includes them.

Legal originals can use either the glass or the reversing ADF

The flatbed is a color scanner up to 8.5 by 14 inches, so Legal is supported on the glass itself. That matters for fragile, irregular or bound originals that should not pass through a feeder. Letter and A4 originals are also explicitly supported in the scanning instructions.

The included 50-sheet ADF automatically scans both sides by reversing the original. It is not a single-pass duplex scanner, and print duplex does not establish its mechanism. Set the original size and sides in the scan or copy menu. Use the glass for photos, receipts and worn or unsuitable originals; the stated feeder capacity depends on media thickness. Automatic two-sided copying uses the feeder rather than turning a flatbed original for you.

Network scanning and USB printing are different arrangements

The included 10/100 Fast Ethernet interface supports the shared print queue and configured digital sending. For email, the manual requires a valid SMTP gateway and recipient and describes delivery as an attachment. For a network folder, an administrator must enable a compatible destination and supply the required permissions or credentials. Test the intended destination, because a historical Windows or Novell compatibility list is not a guarantee for every present-day server.

HP's separate support article explicitly says that Send to Email and Send to Folder do not operate over the USB connection. USB type B is supported for computer printing; local copying and configured analog fax remain separate device functions. A USB-only arrangement is therefore not credited with scan delivery to the computer. The host USB accessory port does not change that limitation.

The xs fax requires a suitable dedicated analog telephone line and configuration such as location and fax header. Ethernet does not supply that telephone service, and the guide warns that some digital PBX connections do not work correctly. Optional Digital Sending Software workflow features are not counted as included.

Paper and confidential jobs need the right settings

Standard input is 100-sheet Tray 1 plus two 500-sheet cassettes, totaling 1,100 ordinary-paper sheets. The original matrix supports Letter, Legal and A4 in the included feeds and automatic print-duplex path. A mixed-size load divides the available stock, so the full total for one size assumes all relevant feeds are loaded and configured for it.

The automatic-duplex table permits stock to 120 g/m², but its operating procedure cautions against more than 105 g/m². This assessment keeps the more restrictive 60–105 g/m² guidance. Envelopes use up to ten in Tray 1 with the correct media settings; they are not loaded into the cassettes or promised automatic duplex.

A compatible driver supports Private Job printing with a four-digit PIN released at the panel. Check the actual Job Storage controls and a real send-and-release sequence. No built-in Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria arrangement was established. An Ethernet socket and embedded web interface do not by themselves establish those protocols.

Assess volume, supplies and the complete earlier unit

HP rates one-sided output up to 35 Letter pages per minute, separately 33 A4. Neither is scan speed, duplex throughput or our test result. Recommended volume is 2,000 to 6,000 pages monthly, distinct from the 75,000-page maximum duty cycle. The 51A Q7551A and 51X Q7551X replacements are declared approximately 6,500 and 13,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; installed remaining toner needs checking.

The later HP sheet gives about 20.5 inches wide, 20 deep and 27.2 high, weighing 73.5 pounds with toner. Earlier guide dimensions differ slightly. Allow additional lid, tray and service clearance, check the actual voltage label, and test network delivery, duplex feeding, fax and sample output. A complete M3035xs can fit a wired office when these configured workflows are useful and reversing duplex scanning is sufficient.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 35 one-sided Letter print pages per minute, separately 33 A4. Not scan IPM, duplex throughput or an actual-unit test. Recommended 2,000–6,000 monthly pages; maximum monthly duty 75,000 is separate.

Paper handling

Exact CC477A xs includes 100-sheet Tray 1 plus two 500-sheet cassettes, 1,100 Letter/Legal/A4 sheets when configured for one size. Mixed stock divides actual capacity. Automatic duplex supports those sizes; table 60–120 g/m² conflicts with procedure warning above 105, so 60–105 retained. Ten envelopes use Tray 1 only. 20-sheet convenience stapler is local, not in-line finishing.

Scanning arrangement

Legal-size color flatbed and 50-sheet automatic reversing ADF support Letter/Legal/A4 originals. Duplex scan is reversing, not single-pass. Computer delivery is configured Ethernet SMTP email attachment or an administrator-enabled compatible network folder; no USB scan-to-computer route is credited.

Computer and mobile connections

USB type B supports computer printing, not scan delivery. Included 10/100 Fast Ethernet printing plus configured SMTP email or compatible administrator-enabled folder scan delivery with credentials. Analog fax additionally requires dedicated suitable analog line and configured fax header/location; network connection alone does not supply it.

Supplies and declared yields

51A Q7551A approximately 6,500 pages and 51X Q7551X approximately 13,000, declared under ISO/IEC 19752. Replacement yield is not installed remaining toner, included-cartridge yield or a cost-per-page claim.

Software and support

Use a currently compatible print driver with automatic duplex and four-digit Private Job PIN controls. Ethernet scan delivery requires working SMTP gateway/recipient or compatible folder destination and credentials; an old Windows/Novell destination list is historical, not a current-server guarantee. Optional Digital Sending Software workflow/FTP features are not counted as included. AirPrint/Mopria are unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

Review is limited to documented US 110–127 V, 60 Hz operation from later US HP sheet; original guide also lists broader regional 100–127 V, 50/60 Hz. Separate 220–240 V edition is not universal-voltage hardware. Confirm actual rating label and current network destination compatibility. Later 2009 HP sheet gives 20.5 × 20 in body; earlier 2007 guide rounds width/depth differently. Allow extra open-lid, tray, rear and service space.
