Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an Ethernet computer print, scan and copy with color Legal-original feeder capture, 150 input sheets and automatic print duplex while print paper size stays flexible?
Qualifies with the supported configured computer app and applicable internet/account setup. Legal capture uses the simplex feeder; automatic print duplex is confirmed only with print paper size flexible because the exact duplex-size list remains unconfirmed.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the feeder automatically scan both sides of originals over office Wi-Fi?
Fails. The exact scanner specification expressly says no duplex ADF scanning. The automatic two-sided print engine is a different function.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a Legal original be scanned on the glass through USB?
Fails. The glass maximum supports Letter/A4; Legal originals need the larger simplex feeder path.
Explore this need in the finder →A small monochrome MFP with a genuine original feeder
The HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw fits a desk that prints black-and-white documents and regularly captures loose multipage originals. Unlike the glass-only dw configuration, this sdw has a 40-sheet automatic document feeder as well as a flatbed. It also includes automatic two-sided printing, USB, Ethernet and dual-band office Wi-Fi.
The deciding limit is its single-sided feeder. Automatic print duplex does not make it a duplex scanner, and the monochrome engine cannot print color even though scanning captures color. The exact US configuration is 6GX01F#BGJ. The surviving maker reference does not establish current stock; no exact discontinued notice was observed.
This is the non-e sdw. Its app setup and dynamic-security conditions need attention, but the lifetime HP+ requirements documented for the separately named sdwe are not imported. An app account requirement for full functionality is a different statement from a universal promise about every printing method.
Use the feeder for ordinary loose pages and the glass for delicate work
The exact scanner specification lists a 40-sheet ADF, a 148-by-210-mm minimum and 216-by-356-mm maximum. That supports ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 one-sided originals. The separate glass maximum is 216 by 297 mm, supporting Letter and A4 rather than Legal.
Load feeder originals printable side up. Portrait pages enter top edge first; landscape pages enter left edge first. Slide the pages in until the tone sounds, then bring the guides to their edges. The original guide warns against loading photographs in the feeder. A fragile item or suitable book page belongs on the glass, face down and aligned with the rear-left marking.
The maker explicitly says no duplex ADF scanning. Two-sided originals need manual handling rather than an automatic or single-pass route. Some copying functions, such as Fit to Page, also require the glass rather than the feeder. Choose the physical input for the actual task instead of assuming every app control applies to both.
Computer scanning needs the configured app
The non-e guide gives separate setup routines for USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. The assessed computer arrangement uses a supported HP Smart installation with the actual printer added, followed by its printer-scanner function to save or share files. Verify the current application and operating-system support; a phone-camera scan is a separate input, not use of the printer's ADF.
For Ethernet, connect the computer and printer through the router and add the printer in the app. Inserting Ethernet disables the printer's infrastructure Wi-Fi connection. The Wi-Fi routine supports app setup or the documented WPS procedure. Bluetooth helps setup; the original guide expressly says it does not support printing through Bluetooth.
The USB routine connects the computer cable and adds the printer through the app. The exact US package does not include that USB cable. Follow the applicable app prompts, including account registration when required. The current app footnotes require internet and an account for full functionality and warn that features can vary or incur charges.
Keep mobile printing separate from computer capture
AirPrint and Mopria are documented mobile-printing capabilities. The original routine supports same-Wi-Fi printing and a separate Wi-Fi Direct peer arrangement. For Direct, check the icon or print the information report for status and password, then connect the compatible device to the printer's signal.
These mobile plans do not inherit the computer app's confirmed document-scanning route or every desktop paper setting. Direct AirPrint is a supported printing choice; it is not evidence that Direct scanning, automatic duplex controls or private PIN release are available through that same route.
One 150-sheet paper input needs working clearance
The included blank-paper tray holds 150 ordinary sheets; the exact reference does not state a capacity-test weight. Its 60–163-g/m² supported-media range is not that missing measurement basis. The 40-sheet original feeder and 100-sheet output tray are separate quantities. Letter, Legal and A4 print media are positively listed.
Automatic print duplex is confirmed, but its exact paper-size subset is not established here. Legal simplex support must not become an unsupported Legal-duplex promise. Load ordinary paper face up, top forward, align the guides and use only one size at a time. For Legal stock, the guide may require leaving the tray cover open. Envelopes, up to ten, load face up with the short postage end toward the back after removing ordinary paper.
HP recommends 200–2,000 monthly printed pages, separate from maximum duty of 20,000. One-sided speed is 30 Letter ppm or 29 A4 ppm. The US supply is 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz. Included toner is approximately 700 pages; US replacements are W1340A around 1,100 or W1340X around 2,400 under ISO/IEC 19752. Allow scanner, paper and toner access beyond the closed body, and choose a duplex-scanning MFP if both original sides need unattended capture.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker one-sided printing up to 30 Letter ppm, separately 29 A4 ppm. Recommended monthly print volume 200–2,000 differs from maximum duty 20,000. Color scan page rates are not color print capability, duplex print rates or measured speed.
Paper handling
One included 150-sheet ordinary input, with capacity-weight basis unstated in the exact reference. The supported 60–163 g/m² media range is not a capacity-test basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively listed for the single input. The 40-sheet original feeder and 100-sheet output are excluded. Automatic print duplex is confirmed, but its exact paper-size list remains unconfirmed. Load face up, top forward, align the guides and use one paper size at a time; Legal may require the cover open. Envelopes: up to ten, ordinary paper removed, face up with the short postage end toward the back. No envelope duplex is inferred.
Scanning arrangement
The exact non-e sdw has glass plus a 40-sheet ADF. Its ADF range of 148 × 210 to 216 × 356 mm supports ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 simplex originals. The separate glass maximum of 216 × 297 mm supports Letter/A4, not Legal. Duplex ADF scanning is explicitly No; no automatic or single-pass capture route. Color scanning is positive. Feeder originals load face up, portrait top edge first or landscape left edge first; feed to the tone and align the guides. Photos and fragile originals use suitable glass placement, face down at the rear-left mark. Fit to Page copying requires the glass. The app camera input is distinct from printer-scanner capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB device printing, Ethernet 10/100Base-TX and 2.4/5-GHz office Wi-Fi; inserting Ethernet disables infrastructure Wi-Fi. BLE assists setup and expressly does not support Bluetooth printing. Actual non-e app setup routines for USB/Ethernet/Wi-Fi plus the printer-scanner save workflow support the assessed computer arrangement. AirPrint/Mopria same-network printing and the actual AirPrint Wi-Fi Direct peer routine are separate plans, without borrowed desktop scan, paper, duplex or PIN controls. USB cable is not included.
Supplies and declared yields
US box black toner approximately 700 pages; US replacements are 134A W1340A around 1,100 and 134X W1340X around 2,400 under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing declarations. The original regional table distinguishes 135A/X in the EEA and other regional families; Ireland supplies and 220–240 V power are not borrowed. Dynamic security needs new or reused HP circuitry. Separate Cartridge Policy and Protection are off by default in the original; protection permanently binds subsequently installed cartridges. No price, remaining toner or universal refill promise.
Software and support
Use a supported, configured HP Smart computer installation, add the actual printer and choose printer-scanner capture to save/share, rather than phone-camera input. Follow applicable internet/account prompts; current app footnotes require internet and an account for full functionality, vary by OS/model/region and permit charges. No non-e lifetime HP+ Original HP or online restriction is imported from sdwe. Exact fax specification is No; a mobile app sending service is not an analog fax modem. Private PIN release remains unconfirmed. Verify actual current app support; the historical Windows 7 glass routine is not expanded to an ADF promise.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US 6GX01F#BGJ positively documents a 110–127 V, 50/60 Hz supply. Current_reference means a surviving exact maker reference without an observed discontinued notice or stock claim. The non-e original sdn/sdw body approximately 16.45 × 12.12 × 11.59 inches and 20.94 lb with cartridge corroborates the rounded US 16.46 × 12.13 × 11.59 and 20.95 lb. US maximum is 16.46 × 18.41 × 17.83 inches; allow glass, ADF, paper, toner and cable access. The smaller d/dw body is excluded.
