LaserJet P1505Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible USB computer producing modest monochrome batches and occasional separately loaded special-media jobs.

The main tradeoff

No included P1505n Ethernet interface, scanner or automatic duplex. The USB cable is separate, and strict body dimensions, weight and mobile/PIN features remain unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an earlier USB P1505 provide 260 included ordinary A4 sheets and a 2,000-page monthly recommendation?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a compatible computer driver. The ordinary input is a 250-sheet main tray plus a genuine ten-sheet priority feed; this does not mean 260 envelopes.

Does the base P1505 include the wired office interface of the P1505n?

Fails an included Ethernet requirement. The original manual limits onboard network hardware to network variants; an optional-connectivity heading does not make that interface standard on this base configuration.

Will it finish two-sided Letter documents unattended?

Fails automatic duplex. Its actual compatible-driver routine requires stack reloading, Continue and the Go button before side two.

More ordinary paper without a network requirement

The HP LaserJet P1505 is an earlier monochrome printer for a compatible USB computer. It provides a 250-sheet main input and a ten-sheet priority feed, giving more ordinary paper capacity than the smaller P1000 configurations in the shared manual. The deciding restriction is manual two-sided printing: this base model also lacks the P1505n's included Ethernet interface.

The exact HP US product page identifies CB412A#ABA and explicitly says discontinued. This review concerns the documented 110–127-volt, 60-Hz configuration. HP separately lists a 220–240-volt, 50-Hz regional edition; the original warning says not to convert operating voltages. Inspect the actual older machine's electrical label.

It is a print-only laser. The paper capacity discussed here belongs to outgoing printed pages, not to a document feeder or scanning workflow. There is no flatbed, copier or fax hardware.

Keep the USB setup distinct from the n model

Use an actually compatible computer driver and provide a suitable USB cable. The exact specifications say the North American box excludes that cable. The original USB installation procedure starts the software installer before attaching the interface and tells the user to connect when prompted.

The present support record lists integrated Fast Ethernet under an optional-connectivity heading even on the base model. The original guide resolves the included hardware boundary by restricting onboard networking, its port and network setup to P1500 network models. This P1505 assessment therefore includes USB only; it does not add the n model's interface or assume an upgrade has been purchased.

The original software supports historical Windows and Mac environments. Verify the real operating system and driver before planning a current workstation. A USB socket alone cannot establish compatibility. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held document release remain unconfirmed. The physical lock receptacle is a separate equipment-security feature.

260 ordinary sheets across two feeds

The main tray holds 250 sheets of 75-g/m² ordinary paper; the priority feed holds ten. The original size table names Letter, Legal and A4, with common loading instructions for these feeds. When both are actually loaded with the chosen ordinary stock, included capacity is 260 sheets.

Both paths load print side face up with the top toward the printer. Set the guides to the actual stock and remove and straighten the stack before adding paper. The ten-sheet feed is particularly useful for a separate short job, but a special-media job changes what is occupying that feed.

For one supported envelope, use the priority feed at its stated one-envelope capacity. Multiple envelopes may use the main tray within the original 25mm stack-height limit. Neither figure means 250 envelopes. Use laser-compatible envelopes face up, short edge leading and flap on the left, with the real size and Envelope type selected in the driver.

The guide warns that special-media modes can pause between sheets. It also specifies appropriate laser-compatible labels and other stock; a broad media list does not promise ordinary-paper speed or capacity on every special material.

Both sides require the user to continue the job

Automatic print duplex is absent from the documented configuration. The original compatible-driver procedure selects manual two-sided printing and binding, then prints the first side. Keep the stack's orientation and blank sheets, reload printed side down, click Continue and press the P1500 Go button.

That routine suits an occasional attended document but adds a handling stage to every two-sided batch. Do not assume that selecting a duplex option creates an automatic reversing mechanism. The original instructions also warn that features vary among drivers and operating systems.

The original P1500 model comparison declares up to 23 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 22 A4. These are maker figures, not results measured here. HP's exact recommendation is 250–2,000 pages per month. A verified maximum duty figure is not available in the sections read, and the monthly recommendation is not converted into one.

The correct replacement is 36A

The original ordering table identifies CB436A, sold as 36A. Its replacement declaration is approximately 2,000 black pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The current HP cartridge page explicitly maps P1505 CB412A#ABA. The smaller P1000 family's CB435A and 1,500-page declaration are not substituted.

The supplied cartridge's introductory yield and a used cartridge's remaining toner are unconfirmed here. No current price or cost per page is calculated. Check both the correct consumable and its actual condition when considering an earlier machine.

The original body figures are explicitly preliminary and defer to current maker support. The exact technical sections read here do not provide updated values, so strict body-size and weight matching remains unknown. Allow space for extended paper support, output and cartridge access. Choose the P1505 for prepared direct USB printing; onboard sharing or unattended duplex needs another documented configuration.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original HP P1500 comparison declares up to 23 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 22 A4. Current exact model recommendation 250–2,000 monthly pages is separate from maximum duty, which is unconfirmed here. The technical page’s acoustic test at A4 23 ppm is not used as a print-speed specification. Special-media modes pause and slow; no measured speed, quality or noise test.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet main tray at 75-g/m² ordinary paper plus genuine ten-sheet priority feed, total 260. Original supported Letter/Legal/A4 sizes and common feed instructions establish ordinary capacity for each. Load top toward the printer and print side face up, adjust guides and straighten the stack before replenishing. A separate one-envelope priority job replaces the ordinary ten-sheet stack; multiple envelopes use the main tray, maximum 25 mm stack, not 250 envelopes. Laser-compatible envelopes face up, short edge leading and flap left; match actual driver size and Envelope type. Only manual duplex, not automatic.

Scanning arrangement

Actual original monochrome print-only architecture and black print cartridge, no scanner, flatbed, feeder, standalone copier or fax. A network socket and generic support software lists do not establish document capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact base US P1505 CB412A#ABA uses a compatible USB computer driver and separate cable. Shared original network port/setup is restricted to P1500 network models; optional generic Fast Ethernet entry does not include the P1505n interface in this base configuration. No included radio or mobile/PIN route established.

Supplies and declared yields

US 36A CB436A black replacement approximately 2,000 pages. Original printed 45 declares ISO/IEC 19752; printed 82 gives the exact P1500 cartridge identity, and current HP cartridge compatibility explicitly lists P1505 CB412A#ABA and P1505n CB413A#ABA. Supplied introductory yield and used-cartridge remainder unconfirmed. Do not substitute P1000 35A CB435A or its 1,500-page figure; no live cost per page.

Software and support

Actual compatible computer printer driver required. Original manual duplex selects Print On Both Sides (Manually) plus binding, prints side one, retains blank sheets and stack orientation, reloads printed side down, clicks Continue then presses the P1500 Go button. Availability varies by driver/OS. North American box excludes the USB cable. Historical operating-system lists are not a current compatibility guarantee. Network administration, physical lock slot and supplies monitoring do not establish PIN-held printing.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US discontinued identity and current exact low-voltage 110–127-V 60-Hz configuration; separate 220–240-V 50-Hz regional edition is not a universal-voltage promise. Original body and weight figures are explicitly preliminary and defer to current maker support; current exact technical sections read here do not supply replacement body values. Strict dimensions/weight remain unknown. Allow extended Letter/Legal/A4 paper support, output and cartridge access, not just a closed-body footprint.
