P2015dIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A local USB computer needing automatic Letter, Legal or A4 duplex within 740–3,000 recommended monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

Ethernet and wireless require optional external hardware. No scanner or confirmed mobile/PIN-release printing, and the third 250-sheet tray is optional.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the standard P2015d automatically duplex A4 over USB with 300 included sheets at 3,000 monthly pages?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a compatible duplex driver. A4 is expressly included in the original guide’s automatic-duplex section; standard trays total 300 and the recommendation reaches 3,000 monthly pages.

Does its d suffix include standard Ethernet for a shared queue?

Fails. The d model includes duplex hardware, while internal Ethernet belongs to n/dn/x; optional external servers are excluded.

Can it scan Legal originals and make hardware copies?

Fails. The P2015d is print-only hardware with no document scanner or independent copy function.

Automatic duplex for a computer connected by USB

The HP LaserJet P2015d offers a specific improvement over the base model: an automatic two-sided paper path is included. The reviewed US CB367A#ABA is an earlier, discontinued monochrome printer. It suits a local computer producing reports, forms and reading packets where turning the paper automatically matters, while network sharing is not part of the essential setup.

The standard interface remains Hi-Speed USB 2.0. The d suffix does not provide the internal Ethernet interface of the dn model, and an external wired or wireless Jetdirect print server is optional hardware. Before accepting a seller's claim of network capability, inspect what is actually included. This review assesses the standard USB configuration and does not credit an unspecified adapter.

Letter, Legal and A4 duplex are positively documented

The original user guide explicitly names the P2015d among the automatic-duplex models and lists A4, Letter and Legal. That A4 declaration matters because the US specification sheet's compact automatic-duplex size row lists only Letter and Legal. The fuller original instructions provide positive support rather than requiring an assumption that every paper size accepted by the input tray can use the duplexer.

In a compatible driver, enable the installed duplex unit and select the correct two-sided layout. The original Windows procedure closes the straight-through rear output door before automatic duplex work. An open rear path used for special media is therefore a setup detail to check when an expected two-sided job does not behave correctly.

Paper input is 300 standard sheets: 50 in the multipurpose tray and 250 in the main cassette, using the stated 75 g/m² paper basis. Both trays have documented size ranges through 8.5 by 14 inches, accommodating Letter, Legal and A4. The additional 250-sheet third tray is optional; 550 sheets is not the included capacity of the P2015d. Use suitable paper within the documented duplex weight range rather than assuming that heavy media accepted by Tray 1 should use the two-sided path.

The workload is more modest than a peak duty number

HP's maximum one-sided speed is 27 Letter pages per minute, separately 26 A4. Neither number is a measured result here or an automatic-duplex rate. For regular workload planning, the maker recommendation is 740 to 3,000 pages monthly. The 15,000-page maximum duty cycle is a different reference and should not replace the recommendation.

For occasional envelopes, open the rear straight-through output path, load suitable envelopes in Tray 1 and use the correct media settings. Tray 1's envelope limit is ten, rather than its 50-sheet ordinary-paper rating. Media leaving the rear path needs collecting because it does not stack like output in the normal bin. This separate envelope routine can coexist with ordinary duplex printing; it is not a claim of duplex envelope support.

The device remains print only. It has no scanner, document feeder, independent copier or fax. No exact AirPrint, Mopria or secure PIN job-release arrangement was established. A model's ability to produce several copies of a computer document is not evidence that it can capture or copy a paper original.

Verify supplies, operating access and the actual computer

Replacement toner choices are 53A Q7553A and 53X Q7553X, declared approximately 3,000 and 7,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. These are not guarantees of remaining toner or present cost per page. Ask for sample output and the printer's configuration and supplies-status pages, and test a real two-sided job through the intended driver before relying on an earlier unit.

The later HP specification gives a width of 350 millimeters, about 13.8 inches, and height 256 millimeters, about 10.1 inches. Its 14.3-inch depth is labeled with Tray 1 open, so a precise closed-body depth is left unconfirmed here. The guide's 16.8-inch width parenthetical conflicts with its own 350-millimeter figure and is not repeated as a valid dimension. HP lists 24.3 pounds without toner for the d/dn configuration.

The reviewed US package uses the documented 110–127-volt edition and 60-Hz US setup; check the physical rating label rather than importing a separate 220–240-volt unit. Confirm a currently compatible driver, not just an old CD or historical operating-system list. The P2015d's strongest role is a defined USB document workflow where automatic Letter, Legal or A4 duplex is useful and network or multifunction hardware is unnecessary.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 27 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 26 A4. Neither is a measured result or automatic-duplex throughput. Use recommended 740–3,000 monthly pages for routine sizing rather than a duty-cycle maximum.

Paper handling

Included 50-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 plus 250-sheet Tray 2, rated at 75 g/m². HP gives a 3 × 5 to 8.5 × 14-inch range for each tray, covering Letter/Legal/A4; included normal-paper capacity 300 for each. Optional 250-sheet Tray 3 is excluded. Tray 1 accepts up to ten envelopes with the rear straight-through output open, correct driver type and suitable laser media.

Scanning arrangement

Monochrome print-only family hardware has no flatbed, document feeder, independent copier or fax. Print-driver booklet and copy-count options do not add original scanning.

Computer and mobile connections

P2015d includes Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and automatic duplex; internal Ethernet is not included. External Jetdirect network accessories remain optional. Original guide explicitly supports Letter/Legal/A4 automatic duplex with compatible driver and rear straight-through output closed.

Supplies and declared yields

HP 53A Q7553A approximately 3,000 pages or 53X Q7553X approximately 7,000, declared under ISO/IEC 19752. These are replacement declarations, not remaining toner or cost per page. Included toner yield is not assigned without an exact package declaration.

Software and support

Original Windows 98/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS X 10.2.8–10.4.3 lists are historical. Verify a currently compatible driver and real available controls. AirPrint, Mopria and secure held-print PIN release are not established; an embedded-Web-server password is not a job-release PIN.

Electrical edition and setup

Review the documented 110–127 V regional configuration; 220–240 V is separate, not universal. Original per-model electrical tables list 50/60 Hz, while later US sheet specifies 60 Hz for 110-volt stock; the US 60-Hz setup is retained. Confirm actual rating label. Width 350 mm is about 13.8 inches, not the erroneous 16.8-inch parenthetical in the preliminary guide. Sheet height 256 mm is about 10.1 inches. Its 362 mm/14.3-inch depth is explicitly with Tray 1 open, so closed body depth remains null; allow additional rear/service access.
