Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the original P2015dn automatically duplex Legal over Ethernet with 300 included sheets at 3,000 monthly pages?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, compatible driver and rear straight-through output closed. The exact dn includes Ethernet and duplex, its standard trays total 300 and the recommended monthly maximum is 3,000.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the standard dn package include 550 sheets without another paper accessory?
Fails. The dn includes 300 sheets; the additional 250-sheet third tray is optional and is included in the separate x configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it guarantee confidential PIN-held jobs on that shared queue?
Fails the selected PIN-release essential because an exact supported held-job PIN routine was not established. A settings password is not substituted for it.

The HP LaserJet P2015dn is the earlier P2015 configuration for a small wired office that wants automatic two-sided documents without adding a network print server. The exact US CB368A#ABA is marked discontinued by HP. The original guide confirms that it combines the d model's duplex function with an internal network interface, while retaining direct USB printing.
This makes the dn more appropriate for shared report or form output than a base USB-only P2015. It does not make the device a multifunction printer. No scanner glass, automatic document feeder, independent copier or fax hardware is present. Repeating a computer document through a copy-count setting is different from capturing a printed original.
Automatic duplex is useful only with the right paper setup
Letter, Legal and A4 automatic duplex are explicitly listed in the original user guide. The US specification sheet's shorter duplex-size row lists Letter and Legal, but the guide provides positive A4 support for this exact duplex family. A driver needs to recognize the installed duplex unit, and the job needs the correct two-sided and binding options.
Close the rear straight-through output door for the automatic-duplex routine. The rear path is useful for selected special media, but that is a different operating setup. Do not assume that paper accepted by a general input tray is suitable for every two-sided route. The documented automatic-duplex paper-weight range is 60 to 105 g/m².
Standard input is a 50-sheet multipurpose tray plus a 250-sheet cassette, totaling 300 normal-paper sheets at the stated 75 g/m² basis. Both trays' documented size ranges accommodate Letter, Legal and A4. The 550-sheet family configuration requires another 250-sheet tray and is not counted as standard on the dn. When buying an older unit, inspect the actual feeder inventory rather than applying the largest capacity printed on a family advertisement.
Choose a supported wired computer workflow
The included interfaces are Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and HP Jetdirect Fast Ethernet. Either can serve a compatible computer driver, while Ethernet provides the shared queue. A built-in Wi-Fi radio or Wi-Fi Direct is not included. Optional external wireless print servers do not become standard features simply because they appear in the accessory list.
No exact AirPrint, Mopria or secure held-print PIN arrangement was established in the material read. An embedded web interface can help configure or monitor the printer, but a password protecting settings is not evidence of a PIN-release document queue. Check the particular protocol and release routine if either is essential, rather than borrowing a capability from another LaserJet generation.
HP rates one-sided Letter speed up to 27 pages per minute, separately 26 A4. These are maker claims, not results measured on the offered machine or an automatic-duplex rate. The recommended monthly workload is 740 to 3,000 pages. The 15,000-page maximum duty cycle is a separate reference and is not substituted for a recurring-volume recommendation.
Supplies and access can decide whether an earlier unit is worthwhile
53A Q7553A and 53X Q7553X are the documented replacement toner choices, declared approximately 3,000 and 7,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Neither figure establishes the remaining toner in a supplied cartridge. Inspect sample output and configuration and supplies-status pages, and test a real two-sided network job through the intended driver. Those checks connect the model's documented capability to the condition of the actual unit.
For envelopes, Tray 1 supports up to ten using appropriate laser-compatible stock, correct driver media type and the recommended rear straight-through output route. Collect sheets as they leave the rear because they do not stack in the usual bin. This separate routine does not establish duplex envelope printing.
The later HP sheet gives a width of 350 millimeters, about 13.8 inches, and height 256 millimeters, about 10.1 inches, with a 24.3-pound weight excluding toner. Its 14.3-inch depth is expressly measured with Tray 1 open, so it is not silently labeled a closed-body dimension. The preliminary guide's 16.8-inch width conflicts with its own 350-millimeter figure and is not used.
Check the actual 110–127-volt rating label for the reviewed US package and its 60-Hz setup; the 220–240-volt edition is separate. Confirm current driver support and adequate space for rear output and supplies access. A complete P2015dn can serve a defined wired monochrome office when its included Letter/Legal/A4 duplex and 300-sheet input are enough.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 27 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 26 A4. Neither is a measured result or automatic-duplex throughput. Use recommended 740–3,000 monthly pages for routine sizing rather than a duty-cycle maximum.
Paper handling
Included 50-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 plus 250-sheet Tray 2, rated at 75 g/m². HP gives a 3 × 5 to 8.5 × 14-inch range for each tray, covering Letter/Legal/A4; included normal-paper capacity 300 for each. Optional 250-sheet Tray 3 is excluded. Tray 1 accepts up to ten envelopes with the rear straight-through output open, correct driver type and suitable laser media.
Scanning arrangement
Monochrome print-only family hardware has no flatbed, document feeder, independent copier or fax. Print-driver booklet and copy-count options do not add original scanning.
Computer and mobile connections
P2015dn standard USB 2.0 and Jetdirect Fast Ethernet with included automatic Letter/Legal/A4 duplex. No built-in wireless. External print servers and added 250-sheet paper input are optional. Driver must recognize duplex; close rear straight-through output for that routine.
Supplies and declared yields
HP 53A Q7553A approximately 3,000 pages or 53X Q7553X approximately 7,000, declared under ISO/IEC 19752. These are replacement declarations, not remaining toner or cost per page. Included toner yield is not assigned without an exact package declaration.
Software and support
Original Windows 98/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS X 10.2.8–10.4.3 lists are historical. Verify a currently compatible driver and real available controls. AirPrint, Mopria and secure held-print PIN release are not established; an embedded-Web-server password is not a job-release PIN.
Electrical edition and setup
Review the documented 110–127 V regional configuration; 220–240 V is separate, not universal. Original per-model electrical tables list 50/60 Hz, while later US sheet specifies 60 Hz for 110-volt stock; the US 60-Hz setup is retained. Confirm actual rating label. Width 350 mm is about 13.8 inches, not the erroneous 16.8-inch parenthetical in the preliminary guide. Sheet height 256 mm is about 10.1 inches. Its 362 mm/14.3-inch depth is explicitly with Tray 1 open, so closed body depth remains null; allow additional rear/service access.
