An older wired network queue for black-and-white documents

The HP LaserJet P2035n offers a straightforward role: print prepared monochrome documents from compatible computers through USB or its onboard Ethernet interface. It includes 300 ordinary sheets and does not need an external print server for that wired network arrangement. It also requires manual handling for two-sided output and supplies no scanning or fax hardware.

The exact US product page identifies CE462A#ABA and explicitly labels the printer discontinued. The original model comparison separately maps P2035n to CE462A. This assessment covers the documented 110–127-volt, 60-Hz edition; the specifications also name separate 220–240-volt regional option codes and expressly state that the supply is not dual voltage.

HP's original declaration names the P2035 series with all options as Class A, although a later generic regulatory paragraph conflicts. Commercial placement and the actual unit's applicable notice need attention. A compact printer body alone is not a promise that residential placement is appropriate.

The n has Ethernet and removes the base model's parallel port

Some surviving support specifications incorrectly pair the n name with a parallel port and no network readiness. The original user guide provides a stronger configuration distinction: the n has the base printer's features except for onboard networking and removal of parallel. Its separate rear-port drawing labels USB and RJ-45. HP's US selection guide additionally identifies the n's 10/100Base-TX connection.

For a normal network installation, the original instructions connect the network cable before power-on, print a configuration page and check that it contains an IP address. The computer installer then uses that address or finds the printer on the network. The embedded web server lets an administrator inspect and configure supported network settings.

Keep that Ethernet setup distinct from a telephone connection or Wi-Fi. A generic selection-guide telephone-port label is inconsistent with the exact port diagram and does not establish fax. Wireless hardware is separately optional. The exact support specification states that mobile printing is not supported, so this assessment does not infer AirPrint or Mopria from Bonjour discovery or ordinary network access.

USB remains available for direct compatible-computer printing. The North American package does not include its USB cable. Verify the intended operating system and driver rather than treating the original manual's historical software list as a present compatibility guarantee.

Included paper handling covers ordinary Letter, Legal and A4

The multipurpose feed holds 50 ordinary sheets and the cassette holds 250, using the original 75-g/m² paper basis. The personally checked size table marks Letter, Legal and A4 in both feeds. When both actually contain the selected size, the included arrangement therefore supplies 300 sheets; it does not need an imagined extra tray to reach that figure.

Driver settings still need to match the loaded paper's size, type and source. For preprinted pages, tray 1 loads face up with the top edge leading; tray 2 uses face down with the top at the front. The feeds are not interchangeable for every special medium.

Envelopes use tray 1 only, up to ten supported envelopes. Load them face up, short postage edge first, and select their actual size and type in the driver. The rear straight-through path may help that job and sends sheets out face up in reverse order. Do not open or close output paths while printing.

Manual duplex is an attended workflow

The original driver routines explicitly print the second side after reloading the stack. There is no automatic turning mechanism. In the documented Windows procedure, select manual two-sided output, close the rear path, print side one, remove unused tray-1 paper and return the straightened printed stack printed side down, top toward the printer. Press Go to continue. Macintosh supplies its own prompted reload orientation.

This may be workable for occasional two-sided handouts, but a recurring unattended duplex requirement fails. Nor can this print-only device copy a paper packet or capture a document to a computer. An administrator password for settings is also different from PIN-held print jobs; included PIN release remains unconfirmed.

HP declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 30 A4 in the exact original comparison. Quiet mode slows the engine. Its recommended monthly volume is 500–2,500 pages, separate from the 25,000-page maximum duty rating. These maker figures are not measurements or reliability findings from this review.

Check the exact toner and leave access around the body

The current US 05A CE505A page explicitly lists CE462A#ABA and declares approximately 2,300 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The original introductory cartridge is approximately 1,000 pages. The nearby P2055 family's CE505X listing should not be borrowed. Actual document content changes yield, and neither remaining toner nor a live page cost is established.

The original series body is approximately 14.5 inches deep and 10.1 high, with unit weight 21.8lb; strict width is left unconfirmed amid inconsistent dimensions. Allow room for the rear output, open trays and cartridge access. Choose the n for compatible wired desktop sharing; native wireless, supported mobile printing, automatic duplex or document capture call for different documented capabilities.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original exact model comparison declares up to 30 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 30 A4. Maker recommendation 500–2,500 monthly pages is separate from 25,000 maximum duty. Quiet mode reduces speed; no independent speed/noise test or automatic-duplex throughput inferred.

Paper handling

Included 50-sheet tray 1 and 250-sheet tray 2, total 300 ordinary 75-g/m² sheets. Personally viewed original Letter/Legal/A4 positive checkmarks in both feeds; no optional tray counted. Only manual duplex with compatible driver and stack reloading in tray 1; no automatic mechanism. Tray 1 envelopes up to ten, face up with short postage edge leading, matched driver size/type/source, rear straight-through path may help; tray 2 not an envelope feed. Original manual media maxima exceed current exact technical page: retain common ordinary 60–120-g/m² cassette and 60–163-g/m² multipurpose ranges rather than universal heavier-stock promises. Original output bin of 125 versus the current 150 remains unresolved, no numeric output guarantee.

Scanning arrangement

Documented monochrome print-only laser, no scanner, flatbed, document feeder, standalone copier or fax. An RJ-45 network port and generic erroneous telephone-port text in a selection guide do not establish fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact P2035n CE462A original comparison/port diagram confirms USB 2.0 plus onboard RJ-45 Ethernet and no parallel; US selection guide identifies 10/100Base-TX. Conflicting support-page parallel/Network ready None fields are not adopted. Compatible desktop manual duplex only; included wireless excluded and exact support states mobile printing not supported.

Supplies and declared yields

US 05A CE505A black replacement approximately 2,300 pages; current exact HP cartridge page positively maps both P2035 CE461A#ABA and P2035n CE462A#ABA and declares ISO/IEC 19752 average yield. Introductory cartridge approximately 1,000 pages is separate. Generic older store overview says ISO19798, but exact monochrome replacement specification and current cartridge page establish ISO19752. Do not borrow P2055-only CE505X from a neighboring column. Actual yield/content and remaining toner vary; live cost per page unknown.

Software and support

Use an actually compatible computer driver and interface cable. Original Windows manual duplex uses Finishing, closes the rear output path, removes unused tray-1 paper and reloads printed stack printed side down/top toward printer before pressing Go. Macintosh has a separate instructed orientation; do not interchange platform prompts. Network administrator password and cable security-lock slot do not establish PIN-held job release. No mobile protocol inferred merely from Bonjour discovery.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact discontinued US CE462A#ABA identity plus positively documented 110–127-V, 60-Hz configuration; separate 220–240-V, 50-Hz option-code editions are not dual voltage. Original series closed 14.5-inch depth, 10.1-inch height and 21.8-lb unit weight are retained. Strict width remains unconfirmed amid inconsistent family/current dimensions. Open trays and rear access need additional clearance. The original declaration of conformity names the P2035 series and all options as Class A, but a later generic Class B paragraph conflicts. Verify actual unit conditions rather than assuming residential suitability.
