Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an earlier P2055dn automatically duplex Legal jobs over Ethernet with 300 included sheets and a 3,000-page monthly recommendation?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, a working IP network and compatible computer driver. Original exact hardware and paper tables confirm Gigabit networking and Legal duplex; set the rear width lever correctly.
Explore this need in the finder →Can that Ethernet arrangement also scan paper originals to the computer?
Fails scanning. The exact documented device is print-only, with no scanner or feeder; the network interface does not add document capture.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a compatible USB computer use automatic A4 duplex and a separate instructed envelope-printing routine?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled. Set the width lever for A4 and choose the actual duplex driver setting; envelopes are separate tray-1 jobs, face up with the short postage edge leading, not duplex envelopes.

The HP LaserJet P2055dn is an earlier monochrome print-only laser for a compatible wired network or USB computer. Its useful combination is included Gigabit Ethernet, automatic two-sided printing and 300 ordinary input sheets. It does not include wireless networking, document capture or the larger x model's extra 500-sheet feeder.
HP's exact US product page identifies CE459A#ABA and explicitly says discontinued. The configuration assessed here uses documented 110–127-volt, 60-Hz power. HP also lists a separate 220–240-volt, 50-Hz regional version, while the original guide warns not to convert operating voltages. Inspect the actual older printer's label.
Its n suffix matters. The original comparison adds Gigabit Ethernet and 128MB included memory to the d model's USB and duplex hardware. A conflicting older selection guide describes only 10/100 and even mentions a telephone port; the actual original interface and model table control this assessment.
Make a working network queue, not just a cable connection
The original network procedure connects the printer directly to the network before power-on, waits for initialization and prints a configuration page. Confirm that it contains an IP address before running the compatible computer installer, then use that address or the installer's network search. A real printer driver remains part of the arrangement.
The original guide documents IPv4 and IPv6, with automatic or manual address configuration. Its embedded web server exposes network settings through the actual printer address. Changes should follow the network administrator's arrangement; a wrong link-speed setting can interrupt communication.
This wired interface does not create a wireless radio. HP lists wireless print servers as additional hardware, which is excluded from the normal configuration here. The documented Bonjour/mDNS entry is discovery support, not proof of AirPrint. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held printing remain unconfirmed.
USB 2.0 computer printing is a separate supported route. The original guide specifies a suitable A-to-B cable no longer than two metres. Verify the installed driver's actual support for the intended operating system; a historical software list is not a guarantee for every present computer.
Set the paper-width lever for the automatic duplexer
The original size table positively checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both included feeds and the duplexer. At the rear duplex-access area, push the blue width lever in for Letter or Legal, or pull it out for A4. That physical setting belongs alongside the actual driver paper size.
Then select automatic two-sided printing with the appropriate binding edge. The original Windows Finishing options distinguish the flip-up setting for top binding; the Mac Layout routine provides long-edge or short-edge binding. For supported ordinary documents, the mechanism handles the reverse side without manually moving the first-side stack.
Preprinted stock loads face up, top edge leading, in tray 1. The cassette loads face down with the top at the front. Those documented positions apply to both simplex and automatic duplex. This is an ordinary-paper routine, not a claim that envelopes or every heavy stock can use automatic duplex.
Included capacity and envelope handling are separate numbers
The multipurpose feed holds 50 sheets and the main cassette 250, rated at 75-g/m² ordinary paper. Because Letter, Legal and A4 each have positive checks in both feeds, the documented included capacity is 300 ordinary sheets for each of those sizes.
The optional CE464A 500-sheet feeder would raise the total to 800, but it is not part of this dn package. An expansion headline cannot satisfy a requirement for 800 sheets included. Adjust the real guides and straighten the paper stack when replenishing either ordinary feed.
Envelopes belong in tray 1 only, up to ten supported envelopes, face up with the short postage edge leading. Select the real size and Envelope type in the driver. The rear straight-through output is a separate special-media path that needs access space. The 300-sheet ordinary-paper figure is not an envelope capacity.
This print-only architecture has no scanner, flatbed, document feeder, standalone copy or fax. A network socket and paper tray cannot satisfy an essential document-capture requirement.
Workload, supplies and operating access
The maker's maximum is 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 33 A4. Quiet mode slows output. These figures are not measurements made here or promises of duplex throughput. HP recommends 750–3,000 pages per month, distinct from the 50,000-page maximum duty declaration in its original US guide.
Current exact HP cartridge mappings support 05A CE505A at approximately 2,300 black pages and 05X CE505X at approximately 6,500 under ISO/IEC 19752. A used machine's remaining cartridge is unknown. No current price or cost per page is calculated.
The original exact dn body row is 14.2 inches wide, 14.5 deep and 10.6 high, with 23.4lb product weight. Fully opened depth is larger; paper, output, rear-access, cable and cartridge clearance still matter. Choose the P2055dn for a prepared wired monochrome queue needing automatic duplex. Essential mobile printing or paper capture needs separate positive support.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker original comparison declares up to 35 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 33 A4. Exact model recommended monthly range 750–3,000 pages is separate from the US selection guide’s 50,000 maximum duty. Quiet mode reduces speed. No independently measured speed/quality/noise or automatic-duplex throughput inferred.
Paper handling
Included 50-sheet tray 1 plus 250-sheet tray 2 at 75-g/m² ordinary paper, total 300. Personally viewed original Letter/Legal/A4 checkmarks in both feeds and duplexer; these sizes support ordinary included capacity and automatic duplex. Optional 500-sheet CE464A tray excluded; 800 expanded capacity is not included. Automatic duplex needs the rear blue width lever pushed in for Letter/Legal, pulled out for A4 and the correct compatible driver option. Tray 1 loads face up/top leading, tray 2 face down/top at front, for both simplex and duplex. Envelopes only tray 1, up to ten, face up/short postage edge leading, actual driver size/type; not automatic duplex.
Scanning arrangement
Actual monochrome print-only original architecture and black cartridge, no scanner, feeder, flatbed, standalone copier or fax. The US selection guide’s RJ11 telephone-port entry is an error contradicted by actual original interface diagram and functions; not adopted.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact US P2055dn CE459A#ABA includes original Gigabit Ethernet and Hi-Speed USB 2.0, automatic Letter/Legal/A4 duplex and 128 MB memory. Wired route needs actual network IP setup and compatible computer driver; USB route needs the correct cable. Optional external wireless servers and x-model extra tray excluded. Bonjour discovery does not establish AirPrint; mobile protocols and PIN release unknown.
Supplies and declared yields
US 05A CE505A replacement approximately 2,300 black pages; 05X CE505X approximately 6,500. Current exact HP cartridge pages positively map P2055d CE457A#ABA and P2055dn CE459A#ABA and declare ISO/IEC 19752. Original ordering table identifies both, and original configured print-cartridge rating is 2,300; do not assume a used machine has that remaining amount. No current price per page or generic P2035-only restriction imposed on P2055 high-yield support.
Software and support
Use an actually compatible computer printer driver. Original Windows Finishing supports Print on both sides with binding control; original Mac Layout offers long-edge/short-edge Two-Sided. Historical OS/driver lists do not promise current computer compatibility. Network administrator password, embedded-server authorization and cable security lock do not establish PIN-held job release. AirPrint/Mopria unconfirmed; Bonjour/mDNS discovery alone is not AirPrint. Additional optional external servers and wireless upgrades excluded.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact discontinued US model identity plus positively documented 110–127-V 60-Hz configuration. Separate regional 220–240-V 50-Hz edition is not universal voltage; original manual warns not to convert voltage. Original exact d/dn body rows: width 14.2, depth 14.5, height 10.6 inches, product weight 23.4 lb. Fully opened table gives 17.9-inch depth; allow actual tray, rear-output, cable, cartridge and service access beyond the closed body. Expanded x-model/additional-tray height and weight are excluded. Original output count of 125 versus the current 150 is unresolved; no numeric output-capacity guarantee.
