Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a standard P4014dn combine Ethernet, automatic Legal duplex and PIN-held output with 600 included sheets?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a compatible driver. The exact dn includes duplex and Gigabit Ethernet; the original matrix supports Legal and Personal Job release supports a four-digit PIN.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its original dn package supply 1,100 sheets without another cassette?
Fails. The exact dn includes 100+500 sheets; added feeders are optional.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the included duplexer scan both sides of an original document?
Fails. It turns printed output sheets; this print-only machine has no scanner or document feeder.
Explore this need in the finder →The P4014 configuration with included automatic duplex
The HP LaserJet P4014dn combines the earlier P4014 monochrome engine with an included automatic duplexer and wired networking. HP's original user guide identifies this configuration as CB512A and explicitly adds duplex to the n model's included equipment. Its original US selection guide also lists the exact P4014dn product number. This review is limited to the documented 100–127-volt configuration.
The practical benefit is a shared queue for ordinary two-sided office documents without having to buy a separate duplex accessory. The dn suffix does not include every paper feeder offered for the family. Standard input remains 600 sheets, and the machine remains print-only rather than a scanner or multifunction copier.
Paper size and paper path matter to duplex
The included input arrangement is a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and one 500-sheet cassette, with capacities stated at 75 g/m². The original paper matrix checks Letter, Legal and A4 for both feed types and for the automatic-duplex path. Those sizes can therefore use the actual standard configuration, including a Legal two-sided job through a compatible driver.
Automatic duplex has its own paper constraints: the guide lists 60 to 120 g/m² for that route. This is not a promise to duplex every stock that a general input tray accepts. Set the size, paper type and binding direction correctly and confirm that the driver recognizes the installed duplexer. An offered older unit may have had accessories removed, so verify the rear assembly and run a real two-sided job.
Tray 1 supports up to ten suitable envelopes with the right media settings. The envelope row is not checked for the duplex path, so the envelope routine is treated separately from ordinary two-sided documents. Optional additional cassettes, a 1,500-sheet feeder and a dedicated envelope feeder do not increase this dn's credited standard capacity.
Wired computer printing can include personal PIN jobs
The standard interfaces are a USB 2.0 device connection and HP Jetdirect 10/100/1000 Ethernet. USB is appropriate for a directly attached computer; Ethernet provides the shared wired queue. Host USB ports described for third-party solutions or accessories are different ports and do not establish an extra network or mobile-printing route.
No included wireless radio, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria setup was established for this exact standard arrangement. An optional print server or an HP mobile plug-in listing should not be substituted for those specific requirements. Check the actual current computer driver and network configuration rather than assuming an old software list still guarantees support.
Confidential printing has more positive evidence. HP documents a driver Personal Job setting with a four-digit PIN, followed by release at the printer. The controls allow arrow-key entry as well as a keypad, so the P4014's simpler panel is not grounds to discard this routine. Use the compatible driver's Job Storage controls and test PIN entry. Temporary personal jobs do not imply that a permanent storage disk is supplied or that jobs survive power loss.
Evaluate workload, toner and the physical unit
The maker's maximum one-sided speed is 45 Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. Neither is an automatic-duplex rate or our measurement. The recommended monthly workload is 3,000 to 12,000 pages. The 175,000-page maximum monthly duty figure has a different purpose and is not treated as a sustainable recurring recommendation.
For supplies, the exact P4014 column in HP's US guide lists the 64A CC364A cartridge at approximately 10,000 pages. HP's current replacement declaration uses ISO/IEC 19752. A cartridge installed in a used printer may have much less remaining toner. The larger 64X appears in neighboring P4015/P4515 columns, so it is not borrowed into this P4014 assessment.
Request sample output, configuration and supplies pages, and inspect pickup and duplex operation through the intended driver. The original physical table does not provide a distinct dn row, and its base/n dimensions cannot safely stand in for a printer with an attached rear duplexer. Exact unresolved body dimensions and weight are consequently left unknown; measure the actual unit and allow loading and service clearance.
Finally, check the rating label for the reviewed 100–127-volt version, separate from 220–240-volt stock. The P4014dn is a useful earlier wired reference when 600 included sheets, monochrome output and automatic Letter/Legal/A4 duplex meet the job, provided the offered machine is complete and supported by the intended software.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. No automatic-duplex throughput measurement. Recommended 3,000–12,000 monthly pages, distinct from maximum monthly duty 175,000.
Paper handling
Exact CB512A dn adds included automatic duplex to n. Included Tray 1 100 plus Tray 2 500 sheets at 75 g/m²; Letter/Legal/A4 supported in both and in duplex, whose paper range is 60–120 g/m². Ten envelopes use Tray 1 separately; no duplex envelope claim. Optional added feeders are excluded.
Scanning arrangement
Print-only monochrome hardware has no original scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copier or fax. A print-driver copy-count setting does not add copying hardware.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB 2.0 device connection and Jetdirect Gigabit Ethernet with automatic duplex. Use a compatible computer driver recognizing the duplexer and Personal Job controls. No included Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct.
Supplies and declared yields
P4014 column specifically lists 64A CC364A approximately 10,000 pages; current HP cartridge declaration uses ISO/IEC 19752. Do not borrow 64X from adjacent P4015/P4515 columns. Remaining toner and included cartridge yield are not assigned.
Software and support
Use a currently compatible computer driver, including its Job Storage/Personal Job controls for four-digit PIN release. The original guide permits keypad or arrow-key PIN entry; a numeric keypad is not a prerequisite. Temporary personal jobs are not a promise of an included disk or permanent job storage. AirPrint and Mopria are unestablished; an HP Print Service Plugin listing is not a Mopria claim.
Electrical edition and setup
Review is limited to the documented US 100–127 V, 50/60 Hz configuration. The separate 220–240 V edition is not universal-voltage hardware. Check the actual rating label, installed trays and accessories, current driver and available operating space. Cables are not assumed included.
