HP LaserJet P4015dn: wired monochrome duplex with 600 standard sheets review

A duplex network configuration with one main cassette

The HP LaserJet P4015dn is an earlier monochrome workgroup printer for shared automatic two-sided output. The exact CB526A model is listed in HP's US store and marked discontinued. The original user guide confirms that it adds an automatic duplexer to the P4015n's USB, Gigabit Ethernet and standard paper feeds. This review covers the documented 100–127-volt configuration.

It is a useful distinction from both neighboring configurations. The n lacks an included duplexer, while the tn adds another paper cassette without including automatic duplex. The dn combines wired sharing and duplex but retains the original 600-sheet input. Choosing it for a large shared queue still requires checking whether that capacity matches the work.

Letter, Legal and A4 duplex are documented

The original paper matrix positively lists Letter, Legal and A4 for the automatic-duplex path and for the included trays. Tray 1 holds 100 ordinary sheets and Tray 2 holds 500 at the stated 75 g/m² basis. Both can supply those supported sizes, yielding 600 standard sheets without an optional feeder.

For automatic duplex, use the documented 60 to 120 g/m² range, correct paper size and media type, and a compatible driver that recognizes the installed duplexer. A paper type accepted for one-sided feeding is not automatically approved for every two-sided route. Verify binding direction with an actual sample report or form.

The 1,100-sheet arrangement associated with tn and x includes a second 500-sheet cassette; that cassette is not standard on this dn. Other feeders shown in the accessory list are also excluded from the included count. Occasional envelopes use up to ten in Tray 1 with suitable laser media and correct settings. The envelope row is not approved for automatic duplex, so do not combine that special-media feed with a two-sided envelope promise.

Use a compatible computer queue for the complete workflow

The included USB 2.0 device port supports a directly connected computer. HP Jetdirect 10/100/1000 Ethernet supports a wired shared queue. The family also describes host USB ports for supported accessories or solutions; those are separate from the device port and do not establish another computer-network connection.

There is no included Wi-Fi radio or Wi-Fi Direct arrangement established for the standard dn. AirPrint and Mopria remain unconfirmed rather than inferred from Ethernet or an HP mobile plug-in listing. Check the intended current operating system and actual available driver controls before treating an older software compatibility list as a guarantee.

The guide does support a Personal Job routine with a four-digit PIN. A compatible driver stores the personal job, and the user enters the PIN at the printer to release it. This can be useful on a shared office queue when the driver and panel controls actually work together. It is distinct from an administrator password and from permanent disk storage. Temporary personal jobs are not evidence that a hard disk is included or that documents survive power loss.

Assess volume, consumables and condition separately

HP's one-sided engine rating is up to 52 Letter pages per minute, separately 50 A4. These figures are manufacturer claims, not our test results and not automatic-duplex throughput. The recommended monthly range is 3,000 to 15,000 pages; the separate 225,000-page maximum duty cycle does not become a recurring monthly recommendation.

The P4015 supply column lists 64A CC364A at approximately 10,000 pages and 64X CC364X at approximately 24,000 under HP's ISO/IEC 19752 declaration. Compatibility with either replacement does not identify the installed cartridge or its remaining toner. Ask for supplies information, configuration pages and sample output rather than estimating usable life from the cartridge name alone.

The original physical table does not provide a distinct dn row. It lists base/n, tn and x arrangements, so this review does not borrow a shorter cabinet depth or another suffix's weight for the dn with its rear duplexer. Measure the actual unit and provide loading, rear and service clearance. Check the actual voltage label: the reviewed 100–127-volt hardware is separate from the 220–240-volt edition.

A complete P4015dn can support a defined wired monochrome office when automatic Letter/Legal/A4 duplex, Personal Job release and 600 standard sheets are sufficient. It cannot scan, copy a paper original or fax, and a missing rear duplexer on a used unit would change the practical result.
