LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A modest 250–950-page monthly routine with occasional color and single-sided Letter/Legal/A4 capture through a verified compatible computer scan solution.

The main tradeoff

Only manual print duplex and simplex feeder scanning, no fax. Exact glass-size range, Mopria, strict depth and installed weight remain unconfirmed; legacy HP Wireless Direct is distinct from Wi-Fi Direct.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the earlier M175nw scan color Legal originals from its feeder to a USB computer and print color Legal pages with 150 sheets?

Qualifies with a compatible installed scan solution and supported ordinary stock. The 35-sheet simplex feeder accepts Legal; its originals are not counted as extra print capacity.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can an Ethernet AirPrint arrangement automatically scan both sides of a feeder document?

Fails automatic duplex scanning. AirPrint is documented on a suitable shared network, but the exact ADF is simplex and cannot gain a reversing or single-pass scanner from the network setup.

Can its wireless network setup print color through AirPrint while saving flatbed originals when no exact glass size is essential?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, Ethernet removed, a suitable shared network, supported Apple device and installed compatible desktop scan solution. The flatbed is established; a selected specific unknown glass size would fail.

A small color workload with a useful single-sided feeder

The HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw combines color printing, copying and computer scanning with a 35-sheet automatic document feeder. It is most persuasive for a modest office that occasionally needs color and regularly captures single-sided documents. Automatic two-sided printing and automatic two-sided scanning are absent, so either kind of two-sided stack still needs an operator.

The exact HP US page identifies CE866A#BGJ and explicitly marks the printer discontinued. The reviewed US electrical configuration is 110–127 volts at 60 Hz. The original manual warns that regional power requirements differ and must not be converted; a similarly named imported unit is not automatically the same electrical edition.

Its four-pass color laser engine has very different declared black and color rates: up to 17 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black and four in color. The original guide separately gives 16 A4 black pages per minute. A long color document should be planned around the color figure, rather than the more prominent monochrome headline. These are maker specifications, not measured review results.

The suffix adds real network connections

USB 2.0 is part of the basic design. The M175nw network configuration adds built-in 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n wireless networking. The original Brazilian comparison table independently distinguishes the wireless M175nw CE866A from M175a CE865A; its neighboring models' hardware is not used to fill this printer's capabilities.

Use a compatible installed HP scan solution for computer capture over the chosen USB, wired-network or shared wireless arrangement. The historical HP software matrix positively lists all three scan connections for the M175 family. This establishes the arrangements rather than a promise that today's operating system has a complete working package. Verify the actual driver and scanning application before relying on an earlier unit.

The original guide says wired and wireless network connections cannot operate simultaneously, with the cable connection taking precedence. Choose one normal network arrangement and install the corresponding software. The documented wireless installation may temporarily use USB to transfer settings, then remove that cable; the temporary setup step does not turn USB into a wireless interface.

HP's exact mobile compatibility row lists Apple AirPrint and legacy HP Wireless Direct. That older direct feature is distinct from Wi-Fi Direct and does not qualify for the questionnaire's Wi-Fi Direct choice. A supported Apple device on a suitable shared network provides the established AirPrint arrangement. Mopria support remains unconfirmed rather than being copied from the adjacent printer families in the table.

Legal feeder originals do not establish a Legal glass

The 35-sheet feeder scans one side. Its documented range runs from four by five inches to 8.5 by 14 inches, accommodating Letter, Legal and A4 sheets within that range. For two-sided originals, someone must turn or reorder pages appropriately; it has neither automatic duplex capture nor single-pass two-sided scanning.

A flatbed is also physically present and documented for photographs, books and individual originals. Its precise size range was not established in the exact material read here. The known glass route can therefore meet a flexible-size flatbed request, but it does not qualify when a particular glass document size is essential. The Legal feeder maximum is not assigned to the flatbed.

Windows instructions open HP Scan, select a shortcut and adjust settings before capture; compatible TWAIN or WIA software can also receive images. The original Mac HP Scan routine selects the scanner, appends additional captures and saves the file on the computer. Color capture is positively documented. The table's fax-resolution guidance is a generic image-use example, not fax hardware: the exact product specification says faxing is No.

Count ordinary paper and scan originals separately

The included ordinary-paper input holds 150 sheets at 75 g/m², and output holds 50. Adding the feeder's 35 originals would incorrectly inflate printing capacity. Letter, Legal and A4 printing are expressly listed. HP recommends 250–950 printed pages monthly, while maximum duty is separately 20,000; the higher ceiling is not an ongoing workload recommendation.

The manual's media table distinguishes ordinary stock and heavier named media, with gloss exceptions rather than a universal thick-paper promise. For envelopes, it documents up to ten at 60–90 g/m², face up with the right short edge leading. Select the correct envelope size/type and use laser-suitable stock without windows or metal fasteners.

Manual duplex requires printing first sides, collecting the stack and returning it printed face down in the instructed orientation, then continuing at the computer or pressing OK at the printer. The Mac procedure rotates the stack 180 degrees. Use the procedure for the actual driver instead of assuming a universal reload direction.

Four toners plus a separate drum need inspection

The original parts table names 126A CE310A black, CE311A cyan, CE312A yellow and CE313A magenta, plus the separate CE314A imaging drum. Toner and drum replacement are distinct tasks. Supply-status messages and actual output help assess what needs attention; no remaining life or current running cost is assumed.

Current specifications and the older preliminary body table disagree about depth and weight, so those strict bounds remain unknown. Width 17.4 and height 13.3 inches agree, and extended paper, feeder and scanner access require more room. The M175nw fits occasional color and single-sided capture; choose a model with genuine automatic duplex functions when reducing hands-on page handling is the main objective.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Four-pass color laser, maker up to 17 Letter ppm black and 4 color; original guide separately 16 A4 black. ISO/IEC 24734 excludes first set. Scan ppm is separate from print output. Recommended monthly printing 250–950, maximum duty 20,000.

Paper handling

One 150-sheet ordinary-paper tray at 75 g/m², 50-sheet output; 35 ADF originals do not add printing capacity. Explicit Letter/Legal/A4 support. Manual print duplex only. Original capacity table spans 60–220 g/m² with a named HP-media quality condition; current plain 16–47 lb versus glossy up to 59 lb remain type-specific. Up to ten 60–90 g/m² envelopes, face up/right short edge leading, correct size/type.

Scanning arrangement

Included flatbed plus 35-sheet simplex ADF. Exact ADF range 4×5–8.5×14 inches supports Letter/Legal/A4. Glass route exists but precise size range unconfirmed, retained with no confirmed sizes while scan size is flexible. Exact duplex ADF No, no single-pass. Color capture documented; optical up to 1,200 ppi field does not establish every route at that resolution. HP Scan/TWAIN/WIA computer delivery. Exact fax No despite generic fax image-use resolution table.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard USB 2.0 plus M175nw built-in 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n infrastructure Wi-Fi. Original manual prohibits simultaneous wired/wireless network use; cable takes precedence.
