LaserJet Pro 4001dne 2Z600E#BGJIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A wired workgroup accepting the exact HP+ conditions and printing within the recommended 750–4000 monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

No scanner or built-in Wi-Fi; added paper capacity and PIN job storage need separate hardware, and USB does not remove HP+ online conditions.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an online Ethernet desktop setup provide monochrome automatic duplex with 350 included sheets at 3500 monthly pages when paper size is flexible?

Yes, under the stated HP+ account, Internet and Original HP Toner conditions. Automatic desktop-driver duplex and 350 standard positions are confirmed; 3500 pages fits the recommended maximum. A specific duplex size still needs confirmation.

Are 900 ordinary-paper positions included without an accessory tray?

No. Standard input is 100 + 250 sheets. Reaching 900 requires the optional 550-sheet tray.

Does the supplied configuration provide PIN-held print release without buying storage?

No. The actual procedure requires a separately purchased dedicated USB flash drive of at least 16 GB and supported driver configuration.

Start with the HP+ conditions

The HP LaserJet Pro 4001dne is a monochrome print-only machine for a small wired workgroup. Its standard duplex hardware and 350-sheet input arrangement are useful for ordinary office documents, but the defining buying condition is HP+. The exact U.S. 2Z600E#BGJ page requires an HP account, an Internet connection and exclusive Original HP Toner use for the printer's life.

Those conditions distinguish it from a similarly named ordinary dn printer. A buyer seeking an offline machine or unrestricted cartridge choice should settle that mismatch before comparing speed or paper capacity. HP marks this exact U.S. reference discontinued, so it is evaluated as earlier equipment rather than an assumed current offer.

The dne is the wired duplex version

The original Plus-series guide maps 4001dne to 2Z600E. It distinguishes that model from ne, which lacks automatic duplex, and dwe, which adds wireless features. The dne does not gain a Wi-Fi radio or Wi-Fi Direct because those features occur elsewhere in the family guide.

A documented computer USB interface exists alongside Ethernet. However, a USB cable does not remove the printer's HP+ Internet requirement. An applicable USB desktop arrangement must still keep the printer online through its wired network connection. Treating it as a self-contained offline USB printer would omit a central operating condition.

Native AirPrint and Mopria are documented network printing choices. A phone can reach an Ethernet-attached printer through the office's suitable shared network. That is different from the printer itself supporting ordinary Wi-Fi or peer wireless printing.

Included capacity is 350 sheets, with an optional expansion

The standard input arrangement has a 100-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 and a 250-sheet Tray 2, each at the guide's 75 gsm ordinary-paper basis. The separately described 550-sheet Tray 3 is an accessory. A 900-sheet headline includes that option and should not be used as the supplied configuration.

The guide explains how to adjust the length and width guides and notes that Legal or A4 makes Tray 2 extend from the rear. Leave room for that extension rather than using only the closed-body measurement. Envelopes use Tray 1, with a smaller ten-envelope limit and their own manual-feed settings; the normal cassette is not the instructed envelope path.

Automatic two-sided printing is positively documented for the compatible desktop drivers. The read operation chapter does not enumerate its exact paper-size subset, so this assessment retains that boundary instead of promising duplex for every size the printer can feed. Verify the actual supported size and media type in the relevant driver before a size-specific duplex job.

PIN release needs a separate storage component

The product page advertises a PIN/pull option, but the operating procedure adds a material requirement: install a dedicated USB storage device of at least 16 GB in the rear host port. It is formatted for job storage, and removing it disables that function. Compatible driver settings must also expose the job-storage controls.

The guide then describes personal jobs and entering a PIN at the panel. This is a real optional workflow, not included confidential-print capability with no extra hardware. It also does not make the same settings available to a native mobile application automatically.

Separate workload, rated speed and supply choices

HP declares up to 42 Letter pages per minute, versus 40 on A4, under its stated conditions. That is neither a measured result here nor an automatic-duplex rate. The recommended monthly range is 750–4000 pages; the 80000-page maximum duty figure is a different comparison.

U.S. replacements are 148A at approximately 2900 pages and 148X at approximately 9500 under the stated ISO/IEC 19752 conditions. Instant Ink enrollment is presented separately, and the page explains returning to ordinary Original HP cartridges after canceling that subscription. The HP+ toner and account conditions remain distinct from a subscription promotion.

Allow operating space and check the actual unit

The U.S. body is 15 × 14.06 × 8.5 inches, while the guide's fully opened depth reaches 30.8 inches. Regional electrical versions are not universal-input machines. Confirm the rating label, account setup, present drivers and intended supplies before installing an earlier unit.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP declares up to 42 ppm one-sided Letter versus 40 ppm A4 under its stated conditions. Automatic two-sided operation is separate; the read operation chapter confirms duplex but does not establish an exact duplex-size list. Recommended volume is 750–4000 pages monthly, distinct from 80000 maximum duty.

Paper handling

Included 100-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 and 250-sheet Tray 2 are rated at 75 gsm. The 550-sheet Tray 3 is optional and is excluded from standard capacity. Legal/A4 extend the rear of Tray 2. Envelopes use only Tray 1, up to ten, with instructed one-sided orientation; output holds 150 sheets.

Scanning arrangement

This is an expressly print-only monochrome machine, without copying, scanning, feeder or fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact dne has wired Ethernet and a documented computer USB interface, without the dwe wireless radio or Wi-Fi Direct. HP+ requires the printer’s Internet connection and HP account; a USB print plan is conditioned on maintaining the printer online through Ethernet, not offline USB-only use.

Supplies and declared yields

The U.S. page names HP 148A W1480A at about 2900 pages and 148X W1480X at about 9500 under ISO/IEC 19752 and continuous printing. HP+ requires Original HP Toner. The optional subscription promotion is not a current offer or a mandatory subscription assertion.

Software and support

The exact HP+ page requires an HP account, Internet and exclusive Original HP Toner for the life of the printer. Instant Ink enrollment is separate. Driver job storage/PIN requires a separately purchased dedicated USB flash drive of at least 16 GB, formatting and supported driver setup, so included-configuration PIN release is false. Native network AirPrint/Mopria do not borrow that option.

Electrical edition and setup

U.S. body 15 × 14.06 × 8.5 in; the actual guide gives fully opened depth 30.8 in and height 9.5 in. Its explicitly with-cartridge mass is 19.6 lb, distinct from the U.S. unqualified 18.13 lb listing. Electrical editions differ by region and are not dual-voltage; inspect the rating label.
