Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Ethernet computer scanning capture two-sided Legal originals in one pass and in color?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled and compatible full HP Scan software and actual original-side settings. The 50-sheet dual-head feeder supports Legal; the glass does not.
Explore this need in the finder →Can USB computer scanning capture a complete Legal original from the flatbed?
Fails. The glass is only approximately 8.5 × 11.7 inches; Legal must use the supported feeder route.
Explore this need in the finder →Can supplied trays provide 350 Legal sheets for automatic-duplex printing?
Fails the capacity requirement. Automatic Legal duplex is supported, but only the included 100-sheet multipurpose tray accepts Legal; the additional feeder is optional.
Explore this need in the finder →A wired color MFP with genuine single-pass scanning
The HP LaserJet Pro 500 color MFP M570dn combines color printing, copying, scanning and analog fax for a commercial office. Its useful distinction is a 50-sheet feeder with documented single-pass, dual-head color scanning, alongside automatic print duplex. The deciding paper limitation is that its supplied Legal input is only 100 sheets, despite a 350-sheet ordinary input headline.
The exact US model is CZ271A#BGJ, explicitly discontinued by HP. The US reference specifies 110–127 VAC at 60 Hz and FCC Class A commercial use. Check the actual plate and configuration when evaluating an earlier unit; a different regional supply or wireless sibling is not interchangeable evidence.
Published printing rates are up to 31 Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 30 ppm on A4. HP recommends 1,500–4,000 printed pages monthly, distinct from a 75,000-page maximum duty cycle. Those print figures are not scan-image rates or results from our own testing.
The original table explains the Legal capacity
Included inputs are a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 250-sheet main cassette, on the guide's 75-g/m², 20-lb ordinary-paper basis. The actual size table marks Letter and A4 in both. Legal is marked in Tray 1 and the optional third tray, leaving the included main cassette outside that Legal routine.
Consequently, the base model provides 350 ordinary Letter or A4 sheets, but only 100 Legal sheets. The separately purchased 500-sheet feeder cannot be added to an unverified base offer. Neither the 250-sheet output bin nor the 50-sheet original feeder increases blank-paper input.
The same table positively marks Letter, Legal and A4 for automatic print duplex. Select the correct paper size and type, then enable the driver's two-sided setting. The supported duplex path does not change which input can hold Legal.
For envelopes, use the multipurpose tray and the documented orientation for the chosen feeding edge, up to ten. Follow the fill indicators and reduce loading for heavy or glossy stock. Specialty media do not retain ordinary-paper stack capacities.
Legal originals use the feeder, not the glass
The original comparison confirms automatic duplex scanning and a feeder long enough for Legal. HP's exact technical reference specifies dual-head color capture, and its US description explicitly calls the method single-pass. This establishes more than a generic automatic-duplex scanner claim.
The flatbed is shorter, around 8.5 by 11.7 inches. It supports Letter and A4 originals here, not a complete Legal sheet. Use the glass for suitable loose originals that should not enter the feeder; use the feeder for the supported multipage and two-sided document routine.
With compatible full computer software, HP Scan provides scanning shortcuts and additional settings. The Mac procedure saves the acquired pages to a file; Windows can also use TWAIN or WIA applications. Check the actual installed package and its two-sided-original controls. A minimal installation or an old operating-system listing should not be treated as a guarantee that every current computer has the same controls.
Network delivery needs its own setup
The dn includes computer USB and Ethernet. The original side-by-side comparison assigns wireless only to dw, so a mobile-printing claim does not supply built-in Wi-Fi to dn. AirPrint and Mopria use the suitable shared network and applicable firmware, separately from full desktop scanning.
Panel scan-to-folder requires a network connection and a configured destination in the embedded web server. The actual instructions allow the glass or feeder, then selection of the intended folder and scan settings. Scan-to-email also requires network configuration, an SMTP server and any necessary authentication, and delivers an attachment rather than a direct local acquisition.
The outgoing-email profile can have a PIN. That protects use of the sending profile; it does not establish confidential print-job PIN retrieval. The latter remains unconfirmed in this assessment.
Office installation and supplies complete the choice
Fax needs an appropriate analog telephone line connected to its fax port. It is not provided by the Ethernet cable, and VoIP compatibility is not assumed. Standalone copying is documented, including a two-sided-original routine through the feeder.
The original US box includes standard black toner declared around 5,500 pages and colors around 6,000 each; optional CE400X black is around 11,000 under the stated ISO conditions. Actual yield and remaining toner vary. The approximately 90-pound body needs a suitable location and opening clearance beyond its closed dimensions. Choose the M570dn when wired color office work and single-pass capture fit, while accepting the smaller Legal input and checking current software support.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact original dn up to 31 Letter black/color ppm, separately 30 A4 ppm. Recommended monthly printing 1,500–4,000 versus maximum duty 75,000. Scan ipm, copy cpm and internally qualified duplex ipm are not substituted for one-sided Letter printing.
Paper handling
Included 100-sheet Tray 1 plus 250-sheet Tray 2 equals 350 ordinary Letter/A4 sheets on 75-g/m², 20-lb basis. Original size ticks positively establish Legal only Tray 1 among included inputs, so standard Legal is 100. Optional 500-sheet Tray 3 excluded; 250 output and 50 original feeder are separate. Actual automatic-duplex table includes Letter/Legal/A4. Tray 1 envelopes up to ten use the original feed-edge-specific face-down orientation; heavier/glossy loading must respect reduced fill limits.
Scanning arrangement
Included 50-sheet ADF with positively documented automatic dual-head single-pass color scanning and Legal-length original support; Letter/Legal/A4 feeder routes confirmed. Flatbed approximately 8.5 × 11.7 inches covers Letter/A4, not Legal. Use compatible full HP Scan/TWAIN/WIA acquisition controls and select the correct original-side settings. Scan resolution differs by source/mode and is not print resolution.
Computer and mobile connections
Included computer USB and Ethernet; exact original dn column lacks dw wireless. Shared-network mobile printing does not imply included Wi-Fi or Direct. Full computer scanning and separately configured panel network-folder/SMTP email routes retain their actual software/destination requirements. SMTP authentication and attachment delivery are distinct from USB acquisition. Network speed promotional 10/100 versus technical Gigabit wording retained without a rate promise.
Supplies and declared yields
Original US supplied standard CE400A black around 5,500 and CE401A/CE402A/CE403A colors around 6,000 pages each; CE400X optional replacement black around 11,000. Maker ISO/IEC 19798 continuous-print declaration, variable actual yield; no remaining toner, stock or cost-per-page claim.
Software and support
Original HP Scan Windows shortcuts/advanced settings and Mac save-to-file routines, plus TWAIN with full software and WIA with minimum installation. Current driver availability and actual two-sided scanning controls require checking. Network folder/SMTP setup required before panel sending; email-profile PIN is not print-job PIN. AirPrint may need firmware update and does not borrow desktop scanning/duplex/media controls. Historical cloud/OS lists do not guarantee present operation.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact discontinued US CZ271A#BGJ with documented 110–127-V, 60-Hz configuration and FCC Class A commercial scope. Body 20.3 × 19.7 × 21.2 inches and 90 lb with toner cartridges; current US maximum 32.5 × 36 × 35.3 inches. Allow tray/door/scanner/service access. Analog fax requires appropriate separate phone line, not Ethernet or assumed VoIP.
