LaserJet Pro M102w (G3Q35A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A small desk printing a recommended 150–1,500 black pages monthly through compatible computer software or a supported local mobile arrangement.

The main tradeoff

No scanner, copier, fax, Ethernet or automatic print duplex. Exact named-size capacities and mobile job details remain unconfirmed; phone-app scanning does not add scanner hardware.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB computer print black documents with at least 160 ordinary sheets loaded across the included inputs?

Qualifies with earlier models enabled and paper size left flexible. The original exact M102w column confirms both the 150-sheet main input and the separate 10-sheet priority input, rated with ordinary 75-g/m², 20-lb stock. Automatic two-sided printing is not included.

Can I require automatic two-sided Legal printing over Wi-Fi?

Fails. Legal printing and wireless networking are supported, but both the exact technical column and US page specify manual duplex. A manual reload procedure cannot satisfy automatic duplex.

Will the phone-app scanning wording provide color document scanning to a USB computer?

Fails. This exact M102w is print only and has no scanner hardware. The application wording does not establish glass, feeder or computer capture.

Small black-and-white jobs without a scanner

The HP LaserJet Pro M102w suits a small desk that needs black document printing through USB or Wi-Fi and can tolerate manually turning a two-sided job. It is a print-only machine. The HP Smart wording about scanning from a phone does not supply a glass scanner, original feeder, copier or fax modem inside this printer.

This assessment covers discontinued US G3Q35A#BGJ and its documented 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz electrical configuration. A surviving support page does not establish present stock, condition or a current driver for every computer. If automatic duplex or document capture is essential, choose a model with those functions explicitly included.

HP declares up to 23 monochrome Letter pages per minute, separately from 22 ppm on A4. Its recommended monthly volume is 150–1,500 pages; the 10,000-page maximum duty figure is not a recommendation to print that much each month. These are maker figures rather than measured review results.

Use the connection that fits the job

The included computer interfaces are Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and wireless networking. There is no Ethernet socket in the original interface inventory. Install a compatible exact-model driver for the actual computer arrangement; the older Windows PCLmS and Mac HP Easy Start instructions are useful historical procedures, not a guarantee about every current OS release.

For ordinary mobile printing, AirPrint uses the same local network subnet as the Apple device. Mopria certification is also listed by the exact US page. Keep the printer's firmware appropriate for the documented mobile functions. Historical cloud-service names in an older feature list are not promises that those services still operate.

Wi-Fi Direct is a separate, genuine peer printing option. Enable it in the printer's Embedded Web Server, select the printer's wireless name on a compatible device and follow the password or button prompt. The guide expressly describes Android with the HP Print Service or Mopria plugin. Some devices must reconnect to their normal network afterward to regain Internet access.

The Wi-Fi Direct connection PIN and the administrator password serve connection or settings control. Neither establishes PIN-held print-job release. This assessment leaves secure held printing unconfirmed.

Two inputs need two sensible loading routines

The exact M102w technical column confirms both a 150-sheet main input and a 10-sheet priority input. The guide rates both with 75-g/m², 20-lb paper, giving 160 ordinary sheets across the two included positions. The US store's 150-sheet headline describes the main input; its separate tray description also names the priority slot. The 100-sheet output is not additional input capacity.

Letter, Legal and A4 printing are confirmed. The reviewed capacity statements do not individually certify a full 160-sheet reserve for each named size, so the finder does not invent those size-specific capacities. Capacity also changes with heavier or special media.

For ordinary loading, remove and straighten existing paper together with the new stack without fanning it. Put stock face up, top edge toward the printer, and bring the guides snugly against it. The priority input can hold a different small job without treating it as a large second cassette.

Envelopes have their own limit: the guide allows up to ten in the main input, or a 5-mm stack of roughly four to six in the priority input. Load them face up with the short return-address end entering first, and select the actual tray and Envelope media type in the driver. These limits are not ordinary-paper capacities.

Manual duplex still takes a return trip

There is no included automatic print duplexer. In the documented Windows driver, choose the manual two-sided setting, let the first pass finish, then reload the printed stack face down with the top edge entering first and confirm at the computer. Stay near the printer so a shared job does not get mixed into that stack.

The Mac procedure requires the HP driver and may be unavailable through AirPrint. It also requires removing blank stock, reloading the printed stack face down and continuing the job. Mobile connectivity does not turn this manual process into automatic duplex.

Toner and drum are separate purchases

The original box lists approximately 700 introductory toner pages and a 12,000-page imaging drum. Replacement 17A CF217A toner is declared at approximately 1,600 pages, separately from 19A CF219A drum life. HP cites ISO/IEC 19752 and continuous-printing conditions; actual yields vary.

The guide's Cartridge Policy and Cartridge Protection controls are both off by default. Policy can restrict accepted cartridges; Protection permanently associates a cartridge after activation, and disabling it later does not release already protected cartridges. These settings are distinct from a lifetime HP+ subscription commitment.

The guide gives a closed body around 14.4 × 9.7 × 7.5 inches, growing to 18.4 inches deep and 13.1 inches high when fully open. Its CF217A-equipped weight is 11.24 lb. Allow room for paper, output support, cables and top cartridge access; the closed outline is not the complete working footprint.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 23 monochrome Letter ppm, separately 22 A4 ppm; US speed declaration uses ISO/IEC 24734 excluding the first set. Recommended monthly volume is 150–1,500 pages, distinct from maximum duty of 10,000. No measured review speed is invented.

Paper handling

Exact M102w column and original guide confirm 150-sheet main input plus 10-sheet priority input, each rated with 75-g/m², 20-lb ordinary paper. Total included ordinary reserve is 160, excluding 100-sheet output. US 150-sheet headline describes the main input and separately names the priority slot. Letter, Legal and A4 printing are confirmed; exact full capacity by named size remains unconfirmed. Load ordinary stock face up/top first, guides snug, and straighten replenished paper without fanning. Main input permits ten envelopes; priority permits a 5-mm stack, approximately four to six. Envelopes load face up, short return-address end first, with correct tray/type selected. No automatic duplex; Windows manual reload is printed side down/top first, then confirm. Mac manual duplex needs the HP driver and may not appear with AirPrint.

Scanning arrangement

Exact US functions are Print only. There is no included scanner, glass, original feeder, copier or fax modem. Phone-application scanning wording does not establish hardware document capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB 2.0 computer connection and Wi-Fi; no included Ethernet in the original interface inventory. Genuine Wi-Fi Direct peer printing is confirmed, distinct from shared-network Wi-Fi. AirPrint uses the same local subnet; exact US scope also certifies Mopria. The original Direct procedure specifically permits Android with HP Print Service or Mopria plugin, and may require reconnecting to the usual network afterward. No retired cloud-service availability is promised.

Supplies and declared yields

US original box lists approximately 700 introductory toner pages and a 12,000-page imaging drum. Replacement 17A CF217A toner is declared approximately 1,600 pages, separately from 19A CF219A drum at approximately 12,000, under maker ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions; actual yields vary. Original Cartridge Policy and Cartridge Protection are off by default. Enabled Protection permanently associates subsequent cartridges, and later disabling it does not release existing protected cartridges. No lifetime HP+ promise is inferred.

Software and support

Historical Windows PCLmS and Mac HP Easy Start/HP print-driver arrangements require actual compatible software; old OS lists do not guarantee current compatibility. Manual Mac duplex may be unavailable with AirPrint. Administration passwords and Wi-Fi Direct authentication PINs are not evidence of PIN-held job release, which remains unknown. Mobile plans do not borrow desktop sizes, capacity or manual-driver behavior.

Electrical edition and setup

Discontinued exact US G3Q35A#BGJ, 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz; do not convert voltages. Original guide closed body is approximately 14.4 W × 9.7 D × 7.5 H inches, fully open 14.4 × 18.4 × 13.1. Weight with CF217A is 11.24 lb; US 10.36-lb field has separate no-cartridge footnote, so it is not silently substituted. The original body table, rather than ambiguous store box-dimensions wording, supplies the fit dimensions. Allow open paper supports, top supply access and cables.
