LaserJet Pro M1536dnf (CE538A; documented US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired desktop office that prints black reports and captures one-sided color originals.

The main tradeoff

The feeder does not automatically scan second sides. Confirm current full scan software and the analog fax setup; a network or printer driver alone is insufficient.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible Ethernet desktop scan a one-sided Legal color batch while automatically duplexing ordinary Legal reports?

Qualifies under the full HP desktop installation. The 35-sheet feeder supports Legal simplex color capture, and the original driver procedure separately confirms Legal automatic print duplex.

Will the feeder automatically capture the second side of those originals?

Fails. HP explicitly lists no duplex ADF scanning, despite automatic two-sided printing.

Can the included hardware provide the same workflow over Wi-Fi?

Fails. Standard connections are USB and Ethernet; built-in wireless is explicitly absent.

Automatic paper turning belongs to the printer, not the scanner

The HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf suits a compatible wired office producing black reports while capturing one-sided originals in color. Its automatic print duplex can remove manual refeeding from ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 reports. The deciding limitation is that its 35-sheet document feeder does not automatically capture second sides.

This assessment covers the documented US low-voltage configuration. The exact support page remains a product reference rather than a current-stock or universal software-support promise. Check an offered machine's plate, condition, supplies and full desktop installation before depending on it.

A complete wired installation supports more than a print queue

USB and 10/100 Ethernet are included; built-in wireless is explicitly absent. The original USB procedure waits for the installer before attaching the cable. Wired network setup uses the actual IP address and selects the network installation rather than assuming that a discovered device is fully configured.

Use the compatible full HP software when computer capture matters. A driver-only installation can serve a different purpose from the full multifunction tools. Check a real print job and a saved scan on the intended computer, then verify the arrangement after a restart.

AirPrint, Mopria and private-job PIN release remain unconfirmed here. A password used to administer the printer is not evidence that a confidential print job waits for a release code. Choose another documented arrangement when one of those functions is essential.

Choose the scanner path for the original

The simplex feeder accepts ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 originals within its documented size range. It can suit multipage incoming documents that do not need automatic reverse-side capture. Color scanning does not change the black-only printed or copied output.

The original computer procedures use HP Scan or compatible TWAIN/WIA software. Choose the appropriate source and settings, save the resulting file and inspect page order and completeness. The glass provides a separate established route for suitable originals, but its exact size range is left unconfirmed in this assessment.

For two-sided originals, allow manual handling or compare a model whose actual automatic scanning method is documented. Automatic printing on both sides cannot meet a requirement to capture both sides through the feeder.

Use the priority feed deliberately

The original guide establishes a 250-sheet main input and a 10-sheet priority feed, totaling 260 ordinary sheets under the stated paper basis. The priority source is used first when loaded. That matters when a special sheet is left there beside an ordinary shared print queue.

Set the actual paper size, type and source. The original automatic-duplex instructions specifically list Letter, Legal and A4 with suitable ordinary media. Unsupported specialty stock follows a different routine; a duplex label does not make every sheet or envelope safe for automatic turning.

Envelopes use one-sided loading with the required driver selection. The priority route takes an individual envelope, while the main input has a separately described small-envelope batch routine. Do not add the original-document feeder to blank-paper capacity.

Fax requires its own connection and receiving setup

The machine includes analog fax ports. Connect an appropriate telephone arrangement and configure time, date, header and receiving behavior. Ethernet is the computer network connection, not the telephone line carrying the fax.

If an answering machine or another phone shares the arrangement, follow the supported connection order and receiving settings. Do not assume that arbitrary digital phone or VoIP equipment behaves like the documented analog line. Test sending and receiving as separate complete tasks.

Plan the recurring workload and installation

HP declares up to 26 ISO Letter pages per minute, separately from 25 on A4. Recommended output is 500 to 2,000 monthly pages; the 8,000-page duty maximum is a different measure. These are manufacturer declarations, without a speed or endurance test performed for this review.

The published body measures 17.4 by 13.5 by 14.7 inches. Allow additional loading, lid and service access. Match replacement 78A CE278A supplies to the actual equipment and inspect maintenance condition. Choose the M1536dnf for proven wired black reports and simplex color capture; choose different hardware when wireless or automatic two-sided scanning drives the decision.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP declares ISO 26 Letter ppm, excluding the first document set; A4 is 25 ppm. Recommended 500–2,000 monthly pages is separate from maximum 8,000-page Letter duty. The feeder scan rate is not a print or duplex speed.

Paper handling

Original exact features and tray instructions establish a 250-sheet main input plus 10-sheet priority feed, totaling 260. Both documented size ranges cover Letter/Legal/A4. Ordinary capacity basis is 75 g/m²; the priority source takes precedence when loaded. Original automatic duplex procedure expressly lists Letter/Legal/A4 and suitable ordinary paper types. Envelopes follow one-sided special-media loading: up to ten in the main input or one in priority feed. Original-document feeder sheets are not blank input capacity.

Scanning arrangement

35-sheet simplex ADF with 102×127 to 216×356 mm range, supporting Letter/Legal/A4. HP explicitly says no duplex ADF scanning. Original color settings and HP Scan/TWAIN/WIA procedures support color files, while printing and copying remain monochrome. The flatbed route is established, but its precise document-size range remains unknown rather than borrowed from the feeder.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet. HP explicitly lists no wireless capability or optional connection. Use compatible full desktop software; attach USB when prompted, or configure the actual network address and select wired installation. Analog fax separately requires a suitable phone connection, time/date/header and receiving setup; no VoIP compatibility promise.

Supplies and declared yields

Original maker datasheet identifies replacement 78A CE278A and declares 2,100 pages, without an independently established measurement basis here. Introductory yield remains unknown. Confirm regional supplies and maintenance condition; no running cost is calculated.

Software and support

Use compatible full HP desktop software for print and scan. Driver-only/server alternatives do not establish the same capture tools. Check current operating-system support. AirPrint, Mopria and private-job PIN release remain unknown; administrative passwords and fax PINs are different functions. No retired cloud-service availability is promised.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US support specifies 110–127 V AC at 50/60 Hz; scope is that documented configuration, without an invented regional option code. Body is 17.4×13.5×14.7 inches and 25.8 lb, cartridge basis unknown. Package dimensions and 32.3-lb shipping weight are excluded. No explicit discontinued notice was established; a current reference is not a stock or current-driver claim.
