Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the original Wi-Fi configuration print monochrome A4 documents, scan color A4 originals on glass and copy, with 150 sheets and a recommended 2,000-page monthly workload?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, verified actual nw interfaces and compatible full HP computer software. Original exact nw/CZ173A configuration references establish Wi-Fi despite the conflicting current USB-only support entry.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its paper input feed a batch of originals into an automatic scanner?
Fails. The M125nw has a flatbed only. Its 150-sheet blank-paper input is not an original document feeder.
Explore this need in the finder →Will USB printing automatically produce both sides of Letter pages?
Fails. The actual driver routine is manual duplex and requires reloading the printed stack for the reverse sides.

The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw is an earlier print/copy/scan machine for individual pages and small document batches. Its original nw configuration includes USB, Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi, but it has no automatic document feeder or fax modem. It fits a desk that can accept placing originals on glass and manually handling both sides.
HP's exact US CZ173A page explicitly marks it discontinued. This assessment covers that model reference without inventing a regional option suffix, current stock or a specific unit's condition. Its declared one-sided speed is 21 Letter pages per minute or separately 20 ppm on A4. HP recommends 250–2,000 printed pages monthly, distinct from the 8,000-page duty maximum.
The original nw configuration resolves a conflicting interface listing
The current US support table labels the product M125nw but lists only USB and says wireless is unavailable. That conflicts with the original User Guide's actual nw column, which positively marks Ethernet and wireless. The original HP model datasheet independently identifies CZ173A with USB, Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.
This assessment follows those two original configuration references for the included network routes and preserves the conflicting support entry. Check the physical ports, exact product label and actual installed configuration when inspecting an earlier unit. The guide's generic Gigabit wording is not used to promise a rate beyond the exact CZ173A datasheet's Fast Ethernet.
Use a genuinely compatible full software installation for the chosen USB or native network arrangement. The original guide provides a connection-reconfiguration utility that can change between USB, wired network and wireless network. A functioning print queue does not prove that the computer's scan software is installed or supported.
Glass scanning is deliberate, one page at a time
The exact model column gives the flatbed Letter/A4 support, while the original technical sheet confirms a 216-by-297-mm maximum and color capture. It does not have the larger fax models' document feeder. A stack placed in the paper input cannot become a batch of scanner originals.
Load an original on the glass according to its indicators. The Windows HP Scan routine selects a scanning shortcut, adjusts the settings and captures the page to a file or application. The Mac routine uses HP Scan in the Applications folder and saves after the pages have been captured. Keep the original's long edge along the indicated side as directed by the guide.
Scan-to-email is delivered through the HP computer software, not an autonomous printer SMTP gateway. Color scanning also does not give the monochrome print engine color output. Confirm the actual driver and application combination instead of assigning every historical software feature to today's computer.
Two-sided documents need manual intervention
There is no automatic print duplex. In the documented Windows routine, select manual two-sided printing, let the first sides finish, then reload the printed stack face down, top edge first. Confirm the computer prompt and any panel prompt to complete the reverse sides.
Two-sided copying likewise requires replacing the printed sheet in the paper input and manually flipping the original on the glass. This does not qualify as automatic duplex scanning or automatic two-sided copying. An office regularly processing long two-sided originals should choose a model with the specifically required feeder and capture method documented.
One input and earlier mobile features need realistic expectations
The standard input holds 150 ordinary sheets; the exact capacity-test weight is not established. Its 100-sheet output bin is separate. The original paper list includes Letter, Legal and A4 printing, while the scanner remains Letter/A4. Load ordinary paper face up, top forward, straighten rather than fan the stack and adjust the guides.
For supported envelopes, the original orientation is face up, with the top edge to the tray's right and the postage end entering last. Select the actual size and type. An envelope quantity appearing beside output capacity is not treated as a confirmed input-stack limit.
The original sheet's mobile table names AirPrint and wireless direct, but its footnotes restrict those headlines to M125rnw. Because that boundary conflicts with the broader family wording, M125nw mobile qualification remains unconfirmed here. Older HP Wireless Direct naming is also not converted into standard Wi-Fi Direct.
The exact supply reference lists CF283A, with the original sheet declaring 1,500 replacement pages; that is not toner remaining or a current cost quote. US and original body figures broadly agree, but leave room for paper, glass and toner access. Separate electrical editions remain unmapped to an exact regional option, so check the actual voltage plate before installation.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker one-sided print speed 21 Letter ppm, separately 20 A4 ppm. Recommended print volume 250–2,000 monthly is not maximum duty 8,000. No measured output, scan speed substitution or continuous maximum-workload promise.
Paper handling
Included single input holds 150 ordinary sheets with exact capacity-test weight unconfirmed; supported-media weight is not that basis. Original named print list supports Letter, Legal and A4. Output 100 is separate. Manual two-sided printing needs a second pass: reload printed side down, top edge first and confirm prompts. Ordinary paper loads face up, top forward; straighten without fanning and set guides. Supported envelopes load face up, top edge toward tray right, postage end entering last. Brochure ten-envelope wording appears beside output capacity and is not treated as a confirmed input-stack limit.
Scanning arrangement
Exact nw configuration has Letter/A4 glass, no document feeder and no fax. Original flatbed maximum 216 × 297 mm and color scanning are positive. No automatic or single-pass duplex scan route. Actual Windows/Mac HP Scan routines capture from glass to computer files or applications; email uses computer software rather than printer SMTP. Copying both sides requires manually flipping the original and reloading output. Generic color copy-resolution wording does not create a color engine.
Computer and mobile connections
Original exact nw column positively includes USB, Ethernet and wireless; original CZ173A datasheet independently specifies USB, Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Current exact-labeled US support table instead says USB-only/Wireless No; conflict retained and original configuration references control. Generic guide Gigabit wording is not a rate promise. Verify exact label and physical installed interfaces. Older Wireless Direct naming is not standard Wi-Fi Direct. AirPrint is unconfirmed because original model-table headline conflicts with M125rnw-only footnotes; no mobile plan is invented.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact US orderable supply is HP 83A CF283A; original CZ173A sheet declares 1,500 replacement pages without an independently read measurement footnote here. This is not remaining toner, measured yield or a running-cost quote. The regional sheet introductory 700-page bundle is not assigned as a confirmed US included yield. No replacement from an adjacent cartridge family is borrowed.
Software and support
Use an actually compatible full HP software installation for USB or the selected native Ethernet/infrastructure Wi-Fi computer arrangement. Original connection-reconfiguration utility changes the actual route; HP Scan captures Letter/A4 glass files on Windows/Mac. A generic print queue, server driver-only installation or historical software list does not guarantee current scanning support. No assumed Smart Install availability, retired cloud service, mobile capability or private PIN release. Administrative EWS password is not confidential print release.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US CZ173A reference explicitly discontinued; no regional option suffix invented. US technical table lists separate 110–127 V and 220–240 V editions without exact option mapping, so mains remains unknown. Original UK sheet 220–240 V is not substituted as US power. US body 16.5 × 14.4 × 10 inches and 17.6 lb, cartridge basis unspecified, broadly agrees with original 420 × 365 × 254 mm and 8 kg. Allow glass lid, paper, toner and cable access; listed maximum body does not remove operating clearance.
