LaserJet Pro MFP M130fn (G3Q59A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An established wired desk printing a recommended 150–1,500 black pages monthly, scanning Letter/A4 originals with compatible full software and using separate telephone service for fax.

The main tradeoff

No included Wi-Fi or automatic print/scan duplex. Legal scan limits conflict across source fields, and fw touchscreen email/folder operation is not promised on this two-line fn.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible Ethernet computer print black Letter documents, scan Letter color originals through the feeder, copy and fax with 150 ordinary sheets?

Qualifies with earlier models enabled, compatible full computer software and suitable separate telephone service for fax. Exact fn has the 35-sheet simplex color feeder and 150-sheet blank-paper input; automatic two-sided functions are not included.

Can I require automatic two-sided Legal printing through USB?

Fails. Legal printing is supported, but the exact US fn and original insert specify manual duplex. Reloading a printed stack does not meet automatic duplex.

Explore this need in the finder →
Will included Wi-Fi provide computer scanning without an Ethernet cable?

Fails. The exact fn has USB and wired Ethernet; its wireless and Wi-Fi Direct cells are blank while the fw/nw variants have separate positive cells. Compatible mobile printing on a shared network does not add a radio to fn.

A wired small-office fax and scan station

The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fn suits an established USB or Ethernet desk that needs black printing, copying, color document scanning and analog fax. Its 35-sheet feeder is useful for ordinary one-sided originals. Its main compromise is manual two-sided printing, alongside the need to maintain a compatible full scanning installation.

This assessment covers discontinued US G3Q59A#BGJ and its documented 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz configuration. The fn has a two-line LCD, fax keypad and wired networking. It does not receive the fw model's touchscreen or included wireless hardware simply because both share a family guide.

HP declares up to 23 monochrome Letter pages per minute, separately from 22 ppm on A4. Recommended monthly output is 150–1,500 pages, while the maximum duty figure is 10,000. These are maker specifications, not measured review results or a recommendation to run continuously at maximum duty.

Install the scanner as well as the printer

The included computer interfaces are USB 2.0 and Fast Ethernet 10/100. The exact US specifications control over an older family insert that describes gigabit Ethernet. A print queue alone does not establish a functioning computer scanner: install the compatible exact-model scanning software for the actual USB or wired-network arrangement.

The guide describes HP Scan through HP Printer Assistant on Windows and HP Easy Scan on Mac. The Mac procedure explicitly accepts an original in the feeder or on the glass and saves the completed scan to a file. Older OS and application instructions identify intended workflows rather than guaranteeing every function on a current computer.

AirPrint and Mopria are independently listed for the exact fn. A suitable shared network can connect the wired printer with a compatible mobile device on the same local subnet. That does not give the printer its own Wi-Fi radio, Wi-Fi Direct or a mobile scanning route. Historical cloud-service listings are not promises of continuing availability.

Keep feeder size and glass size explicit

The exact technical support body specifies a 35-sheet feeder and expressly says duplex ADF scanning is unavailable. Color capture reaches up to 300 × 300 dpi through the feeder, or 600 × 600 dpi on the glass; monochrome glass scanning is separately listed at 1,200 × 1,200 dpi. Color scanning does not make this a color printer.

Letter and A4 capture are established on both routes. There is a source conflict for Legal originals: a media-handling list names Legal in the feeder, but the same detailed scan-size fields stop at 8.5 × 11.7 inches. This finder does not guarantee Legal scan files from that conflicting evidence. Printing Legal pages is separately confirmed.

Use the document indicators and guides for the chosen original route, and use the glass for material unsuitable for automatic feeding. A two-sided original needs an attended, manually managed capture routine; neither the feeder nor a marketing phrase about fewer steps proves automatic two-sided files.

Screen-specific functions stay screen-specific

The fn's physical controls include Copy Menu, Start Copy, a numeric fax keypad and Start Fax. Its copying routine uses those controls rather than the fw touchscreen menus. A two-sided-copy-to-one-sided-sheet feature is not an automatic print duplexer.

The older technical insert lists email and network-folder options broadly, including fn. However, the full operating guide expressly labels configured Scan to Email as touchscreen-only. This assessment therefore qualifies the actual compatible computer file-scanning workflow and does not promise those standalone panel delivery menus on the fn.

Fax additionally needs suitable telephone service and configuration through the telephone-line port. Ethernet and USB do not replace that service. The documented shared voice/fax arrangement has its own answer-mode and dial-tone settings. Administration passwords protect settings; they do not establish PIN-held computer print release.

150 sheets and a manual return pass

The included input holds 150 ordinary sheets at the guide's 75-g/m², 20-lb basis. The exact US output is 100 sheets; the older insert's 150-sheet output and 50-page feeder are retained as source differences, not added to paper reserve. Letter, Legal and A4 printing are supported without counting a separate priority tray.

Load ordinary stock face up with its top edge entering first, straighten replenished paper without fanning, and set the guides snugly. Up to ten envelopes use the input face up with the short return-address end entering first; select Envelope and the actual size in the driver.

Windows manual duplex prints the first sides, then requires reloading the stack printed side down/top first and confirming at the computer. The Mac manual-duplex procedure needs the HP driver and may be unavailable through AirPrint. Automatic duplex remains unavailable whichever network or mobile convenience is used.

Budget toner and drum separately

The original box lists approximately 700 introductory toner pages and a 12,000-page imaging drum. Replacement 17A CF217A toner is declared around 1,600 pages, separately from 19A CF219A drum life, under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Actual yield varies.

The exact US page gives a 16.34 × 11.34 × 11-inch body and 16.76 lb without a cartridge-weight basis; generic guide dimensions and weights differ. Allow open scanner, feeder, paper and supply access, with maximum depth about 20.13 inches. A current feeder MFP with supported software and automatic duplex is a sensible alternative when this older manual routine would interrupt daily work.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact US fn rates Letter monochrome printing up to 23 ppm; original exact model insert separately lists 22 A4 ppm. Recommended monthly volume 150–1,500 is distinct from 10,000 maximum duty. Scan and copy rates are separate; no measured review speed is invented.

Paper handling

One included 150-sheet input, rated by the original guide with 75-g/m², 20-lb ordinary stock. Exact US output is 100 sheets and original feeder 35; earlier insert instead lists 150-sheet output and 50-page feeder, retained as a source-version difference and not counted as blank-paper reserve. Letter/Legal/A4 printing is confirmed. Ordinary paper loads face up/top first with snug guides; straighten replenished stock without fanning. Up to ten envelopes load face up, short return-address end first, with actual size and Envelope media selected. Windows manual duplex requires printed side down/top first, then computer confirmation; Mac manual duplex needs HP driver and may be unavailable through AirPrint. No automatic print duplex.

Scanning arrangement

Exact fn technical body positively documents color scanning: up to 300 × 300 dpi through the 35-sheet simplex feeder, 600 × 600 dpi on glass, separately 1,200 × 1,200 dpi monochrome glass. Duplex ADF scanning is explicitly No. Letter/A4 are confirmed on both routes. ADF media list includes Legal, but detailed ADF maximum is 8.5 × 11.7 inches; Legal file capture therefore remains unconfirmed across that source conflict and is not qualified. Compatible HP Scan/HP Easy Scan/TWAIN/WIA provides computer capture; Mac Easy Scan procedure expressly accepts glass or feeder and saves a file. No automatic duplex inferred from two-sided copy language.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact US fn includes USB 2.0 computer interface, Fast Ethernet 10/100 and telephone line in/out for fax. Earlier technical insert says gigabit, but exact US specification controls; no gigabit promise. Exact fn column lacks wireless and Wi-Fi Direct. AirPrint/Mopria can use a suitable shared local network with the printer wired and a compatible mobile device on the same subnet; no Wi-Fi hardware or mobile capture borrowed. Fax requires suitable separate telephone service. Front flash-storage or touchscreen fw workflows are not included by assumption.

Supplies and declared yields

US box declares approximately 700 introductory black toner pages and a 12,000-page imaging drum. Replacement 17A CF217A toner approximately 1,600 pages and separate 19A CF219A drum approximately 12,000 under maker ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Actual yields vary. Original supply table distinguishes M130 CF217A from M132 CF218A and Ultra CF233A/CF234A; no neighboring supply borrowed. No current price, remaining toner, editorial test or lifetime HP+ promise is invented.

Software and support

Compatible full HP Scan/Printer Assistant on Windows or HP Easy Scan on Mac provides computer file capture over the supported USB/network installation. Old OS lists are not a blanket current software guarantee. The old technical insert lists email/folder broadly, while original operational Scan to Email is expressly touchscreen-only; fn has a two-line LCD. Standalone panel delivery is therefore unqualified rather than borrowed from fw. Administration passwords and fax controls do not establish held-print PIN release. Mobile plans do not inherit scanning, paper-capacity combinations or desktop manual-duplex menus.

Electrical edition and setup

Discontinued exact US G3Q59A#BGJ, documented 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz; separate 220–240-V regional units must not be voltage-converted. Exact US body 16.34 W × 11.34 D × 11 H inches, maximum 16.34 × 20.13 × 16.68; listed 16.76 lb has unstated cartridge basis, not package 22.4 lb. Generic guide feeder-body width 16.6 inches and with-cartridge 22.5–23.4 lb are retained as differing family figures, not silently substituted. Allow paper, feeder/glass, top supply access and cables. USB cable is separately purchased in the exact US box scope. Fax needs suitable telephone service and actual answer-mode/dial-tone setup.
