Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible Ethernet computer print monochrome Letter documents and save Letter color flatbed scans with 150 ordinary input sheets?
Qualifies in the documented full computer software arrangement. The nw includes Ethernet and a color flatbed; its print engine remains monochrome and two-sided output requires a manual reload.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require a feeder to scan a stack of A4 pages over Wi-Fi?
Fails. The exact nw is a flatbed-only model with no automatic document feeder, regardless of its wireless connection.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its Wi-Fi Direct connection provide automatic two-sided printing?
Fails. Genuine direct-wireless printing is present, but the exact model only supports manual print duplex. A wireless route does not add the missing automatic mechanism.
Explore this need in the finder →A wireless flatbed model for a modest black-document routine
The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130nw suits a small workspace that prints black documents and occasionally scans or copies an original on the glass. USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi offer useful placement choices. The deciding limitation is document handling: this version has no automatic document feeder, no fax and no automatic print duplexer. A long stack of originals therefore means repeated placement on the flatbed.
The exact family table identifies the nw as G3Q58A. This assessment covers the documented US low-voltage configuration, with 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz requirements confirmed by HP's US support reference. It does not claim an independently verified regional SKU suffix or present stock. Check the actual unit's electrical plate and compatible software before choosing it.
HP specifies up to 23 monochrome Letter pages per minute, separately 22 ppm on A4. The recommended monthly print range is 150–1,500 pages; the 10,000-page maximum duty figure is a different limit. These are manufacturer declarations rather than measured review results.
The glass can capture color, although printed pages remain black
The nw's flatbed accepts originals up to 215.9 by 297 mm, supporting Letter and A4 capture. Color optical scanning reaches up to 600 dpi, while monochrome optical capture reaches up to 1,200 dpi. Neither number turns this into a color printer, and an interpolated setting should not be described as the optical resolution.
With a compatible full computer installation, HP Scan on Windows or the documented Mac scanning application can save the captured page as a computer file. Select the glass, appropriate document settings and destination in the application. Check the currently available software for the actual operating system; an old list of supported systems is not a promise about every modern computer.
The two-line control panel is distinct from the fw model's touchscreen. Native panel scan-to-email and network-folder sending are not established for the nw: the exact later comparison explicitly says no digital sending. Do not confuse emailing a file after saving it on the computer with a configured SMTP destination at the printer.
Choose a connection for the actual job
A supported full computer setup can use USB, Fast Ethernet 10/100 or infrastructure Wi-Fi. Ethernet lets the printer sit on a suitable shared network without relying on its wireless radio. USB provides a direct computer connection, rather than a removable-drive scanning promise.
Local AirPrint and Mopria printing are documented on an appropriate shared network. Genuine Wi-Fi Direct is also included; the operating guide describes compatible Android printing through HP Print Service or Mopria. Enable the intended route, authenticate as required and reconnect the mobile device to its normal network afterward when necessary.
These mobile print arrangements do not establish the same computer-scanning application, exact media controls or included-capacity combination. Retired cloud-service names in the historical brochure are not a promise that those services still work. A network administrator password likewise does not establish PIN-held print release.
A 150-sheet input and manual two-sided output
The included input holds 150 ordinary sheets, with the operating guide's capacity basis of 75-g/m², 20-lb paper. Its 100-sheet output is a separate limit, and there is no original feeder to count as extra blank-paper storage. Letter, Legal and A4 printing are supported; Legal printing does not extend the flatbed beyond its documented scan area.
For ordinary stock, load face up with the top entering first, adjust the guides and select the matching paper settings. Straighten a replenished stack without fanning it. Up to ten suitable envelopes use the separate face-up routine, with the short return-address end entering first and Envelope media selected.
Printing both sides requires an attended reload. The Windows procedure returns the first-pass sheets printed side down, top first, then requires confirmation. The original Mac manual-duplex instructions need the HP driver and may not appear through AirPrint. Choosing wireless printing does not remove that physical step.
Separate toner, drum life and installation space
The original box lists approximately 700 introductory toner pages and a separately rated 12,000-page imaging drum. Replacement 17A CF217A toner is declared around 1,600 pages; 19A CF219A drum life is around 12,000 under the stated ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Actual life varies, and an earlier unit's remaining supplies cannot be inferred from those original ratings.
The exact body reference gives 398 by 288 by 231.1 mm, approximately 15.67 by 11.34 by 9.10 inches. Open access increases the required depth and height. The exact 6.8-kg body figure has an unstated cartridge basis, so it is kept separate from the different generic guide weight.
Choose the M130nw for its documented computer and network choices when occasional glass scanning and manual duplex are acceptable. If batch scanning, automatic two-sided printing or fax is essential, compare a configuration that positively includes that capability.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 23 monochrome Letter ppm in the exact US support reference, separately 22 A4 ppm in the original model table. Recommended print volume is 150–1,500 pages monthly; 10,000 maximum duty is a different limit. Scan and copy figures are separate operations, not measured review results.
Paper handling
One included 150-sheet input, based on 75-g/m², 20-lb ordinary paper; 100-sheet output is separate. Letter, Legal and A4 printing are documented. No automatic print duplex. Ordinary stock loads face up, top first, guides adjusted; straighten replenished stock without fanning. Up to ten envelopes use face-up loading, short return-address end first and the correct size/Envelope media setting. Windows manual duplex returns printed sides down, top first; confirm after reload. Original Mac manual duplex needs the HP driver and may not appear in AirPrint.
Scanning arrangement
Exact nw has a color flatbed and explicitly no ADF or fax. Original comparison physical 3–4 confirms a 215.9 × 297-mm glass area, supporting Letter/A4. Optical glass resolution up to 600 dpi color and 1,200 dpi monochrome. Compatible full computer HP Scan or Mac application saves files through the documented USB/network arrangement. Exact later table says digital sending No; older insert email/folder wording is rejected against that table and the actual touchscreen-only operating instructions. Legal printing does not establish Legal scanning.
Computer and mobile connections
Included computer USB 2.0, Fast Ethernet 10/100 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. Genuine Wi-Fi Direct peer printing is documented separately from infrastructure Wi-Fi. AirPrint/Mopria use a suitable local network; Android HP Print Service/Mopria Direct setup is separately documented. Mobile print plans do not borrow computer scanning, exact media capacity or desktop controls. Old insert gigabit wording is not used.
Supplies and declared yields
Original box declares approximately 700 introductory toner pages and a separately rated 12,000-page imaging drum.
