Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can M225dn combine USB monochrome Legal automatic duplex, one-sided Legal color feeder scans and fax at 2,000 monthly pages?
Qualifies with earlier models enabled, actual compatible installed HP Scan and driver, approved ordinary stock and a separate suitable configured analog fax line. Included normal input is 260 sheets; the 35-page ADF is separate.
Explore this need in the finder →Does M225dn automatically scan both sides of Legal originals through the feeder over Ethernet?
Fails the selected automatic duplex scan route. Exact scanner specifications say no duplex ADF scanning; automatic two-sided printing is a separate function.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the standard M225dn use an office Wi-Fi network without another model or added equipment?
Fails the selected connection. The original exact dn column includes USB and 10/100 Ethernet, with no wireless connection.

The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dn makes black-and-white prints and copies, scans in color and includes analog fax. HP's exact US product page identifies CF484A#BGJ and marks it discontinued. This review concerns its documented 110–127-volt, 50/60-Hz configuration. The separate 220–240-volt version is different hardware, not another voltage setting on the same printer.
The dn configuration uses USB 2.0 or built-in 10/100 Ethernet. Its original model column has a two-line LCD panel and no wireless network connection. This is a useful distinction from the touchscreen M225dw. A shared family page can describe functions that the LCD model does not include, so the suffix should be checked alongside the product number.
HP specifies up to 26 Letter pages per minute, separately 25 A4, and recommends 500–2,000 printed pages monthly. The exact store and support pages disagree on the maximum duty cycle, listing 30,000 and 15,000 respectively. This review leaves that maximum unresolved while retaining the separately agreed recommended workload. The figures are maker specifications, not measured review results.
Automatic print duplex and 260 normal input sheets
The standard main tray holds 250 ordinary sheets. The priority tray holds a genuine ten-sheet stack, rather than being only a single-sheet handfeed slot. Together they provide 260 included normal print sheets. The 35-page document feeder feeds originals into the scanner and does not add to that paper total.
The original size matrix explicitly checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both print feeds and the automatic duplex column. With a compatible computer driver and approved stock, those sizes can print on both sides automatically. Set the actual size, media type and required binding before sending the job.
Media-type restrictions matter as much as size. The original duplex table approves ordinary Plain paper and its listed lighter and midweight categories, but it excludes heavier categories, labels, transparencies and envelopes from automatic duplex. A general input allowance reaching 163 g/m² is therefore not permission to duplex every sheet of that weight.
For the documented priority-tray envelope routine, load face up with the top edge toward the right of the tray and the postage end entering last. That orientation differs from other HP models. Select the correct envelope size and type; do not use an ordinary-sheet or automatic-duplex assumption for it.
Color scan capture with a one-sided feeder
The original exact model column positively confirms color scanning, a flatbed for Letter or A4, and a document feeder reaching Legal. The exact scanner specification gives a 35-sheet ADF and says no duplex ADF scanning. It therefore does not qualify for automatic two-sided or single-pass original scanning.
A general two-sided copy section in the shared guide does not override that explicit scanner limit. Automatic duplex printing can make a two-sided output from appropriate scanned pages; it does not prove that the feeder automatically captures both sides of an original. Legal originals have a confirmed feeder route, without becoming a Legal-flatbed claim.
HP Scan can initiate a scan from a compatible connected computer and save it as a file. Install and verify the actual scanning software for the intended operating system, using the documented USB or network arrangement. An ordinary print driver alone does not establish that the computer can receive scans.
The LCD model does not inherit touchscreen scan destinations
The original model table marks front-panel Scan to Email, Scan to Network Folder and Scan to USB only for touchscreen models. Those native services are not assigned to M225dn. Its computer scanning routine remains useful, but the office must supply and run the compatible computer software instead of expecting a neighboring model's front-panel delivery menu.
AirPrint and Mopria network printing are documented for the exact model. A mobile device can reach the Ethernet-connected printer through the appropriate shared local network. That does not add a wireless printer radio. The original guide also says AirPrint does not support USB here and warns that HP-driver duplex options might not appear through AirPrint, so the mobile routine is kept separate.
Fax needs suitable telephone service connected to its fax port. HP describes an analog device and recommends a dedicated analog line. Configure the intended line arrangement and run the fax test. Ethernet or USB does not itself supply telephone fax service.
Supplies and unresolved physical measurements
The exact US replacement supplies are 83A CF283A, nominally around 1,500 pages, or higher-capacity 83X CF283X around 2,200. Those replacement figures do not establish how much toner remains in an installed cartridge. This review does not turn a yield test performed on another printer into a test of this M225dn.
Hardware PIN-held print release was not established. General secure-authentication advertising or an administration password is not sufficient evidence to promise that function. It remains unknown for matching a selected PIN requirement.
Width is approximately 17.42 inches and height 14.6. Depth and weight conflict between original and current specifications and remain unconfirmed, so check the actual unit and paper supports. M225dn fits an earlier wired monochrome workflow when its compatible computer scanning, simplex originals and separate fax setup meet the actual document jobs.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original model table and exact US headline up to 26 Letter ppm, separately 25 A4. Recommended monthly printing 500–2,000. Maximum duty unknown because exact US store says 30,000 while exact original support says 15,000; neither substituted as recommendation. Scan ppm and print ppm separate.
Paper handling
Original exact columns include genuine 10-sheet priority tray and 250-sheet main input, 260 normal sheets total; 35-page ADF separate. Actually viewed size table positively checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both inputs and automatic-duplex column. Actually viewed type table includes Plain, Light 60–74, Intermediate 85–95 and Midweight 96–110 g/m² for automatic duplex but excludes Heavy 111–130, labels, envelopes and transparencies. Broader general 60–163 input weight not borrowed as duplex allowance. Priority-tray envelope procedure face up/top edge toward tray right/postage end enters last; select actual size/type, no envelope duplex.
Scanning arrangement
Original exact columns positively color scan, flatbed up to Letter/A4 and feeder up to Legal. Exact specifications 35-page ADF with no duplex scanning; retained Letter/Legal/A4 simplex feeder route, Letter/A4 glass only. Generic Copy on both sides section is not proof of automatic original-side scanning.
Computer and mobile connections
M225dn includes USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet, no included wireless network or Direct. LCD model native Scan to Email/Folder/USB absent in exact original columns. USB/Ethernet computer scans use actual compatible HP Scan. Same-LAN Ethernet AirPrint/Mopria printing can coexist with a separately installed computer scan routine; no touchscreen SMTP borrowed. Analog fax line separate.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact US replacement 83A CF283A nominal approximately 1,500 black pages or 83X CF283X approximately 2,200. Remaining installed toner unknown. No standard-yield test on another printer is represented as an M225 test; no current cost per page assigned.
Software and support
Computer HP Scan must actually work with the chosen operating system and USB/network setup; original exact columns include HP Scan driver and manual gives file-save routine. HP driver automatic print duplex may not be exposed by AirPrint, so mobile duplex unknown. Hardware PIN-held document release not established; general secure-authentication marketing, administration password and scan-profile PIN are not sufficient evidence.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US #BGJ model identity and documented 110–127 VAC 50/60 Hz configuration; separate 220–240 VAC hardware, not dual voltage. Width 17.42 and height 14.6 in retained with original approximate 17.4/14.6. Depth unknown: exact current US 11.37 closed/16.05 maximum versus original product 16.1 without matching access-state qualification. Weight unknown: original exact 11.0 kg/24.3 lb with toner versus current 11.1 kg/24.4 lb. Verify actual footprint and paper supports.
