M225dwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A modest monochrome office needing actual computer scanning or configured email/folder delivery through a wired or infrastructure Wi-Fi network.

The main tradeoff

No automatic duplex scanner. Its legacy HP Wireless Direct is distinct from Wi-Fi Direct; PIN release, maximum duty, depth and weight remain unresolved.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can M225dw combine office Wi-Fi monochrome Legal duplex printing, one-sided Legal color scans and fax at 2,000 monthly pages?

Qualifies with earlier models enabled, a working infrastructure network, actual compatible HP Scan/driver or configured scan delivery, approved ordinary stock and a separate suitable analog fax line. Normal print input is 260 sheets.

A touchscreen M225 for monochrome output and color capture

The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw prints and copies in black and white, scans in color and includes analog fax. HP's exact US product page identifies CF485A#BGJ and marks it discontinued. Its color touchscreen is a control interface, not a color print engine. This review covers the documented 110–127-volt, 50/60-Hz US electrical configuration, with the separately specified 220–240-volt hardware kept distinct.

The dw's practical differences include an infrastructure wireless connection, a touchscreen and front-panel scan destinations. The original five-model table marks those features in the dw column. It also includes USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet, so a wireless radio is not the only way to install it. Choose the actual connection and software arrangement that the intended computer and network support.

HP rates printing up to 26 Letter pages per minute, separately 25 A4, and recommends 500–2,000 monthly printed pages. Maximum duty remains unknown here because exact store and support specifications disagree between 30,000 and 15,000. The recommended range is a separate agreed field, not a choice between those maximums.

Use the touchscreen destinations with real network services

The original dw column includes Scan to Email, Scan to Network Folder and Scan to USB. Email delivery requires an actual network connection and configured compatible SMTP server, port and authentication. A folder destination needs a working shared path and the required credentials. Run the guide's save-and-test procedure before relying on either routine for office documents.

A PIN protecting an email profile or shared-folder destination controls that scan service; it is not proof that print jobs can be held for PIN release. This review has not established a local hardware PIN-held print workflow, so that selected requirement remains unconfirmed.

A computer can also initiate scans through actual compatible HP Scan software and save them as files. Verify the software on the intended operating system using USB, Ethernet or the included infrastructure wireless arrangement. Basic printing does not demonstrate that the scan application is installed and functioning.

Keep legacy HP Wireless Direct separate from Wi-Fi Direct

The original guide names this generation's nearby peer-print feature HP Wireless Direct. It explains enabling that setting and notes that a firmware update may be required. Compatible Apple devices can use its documented AirPrint routine; the guide also describes other supported devices. This is retained as a legacy HP Wireless Direct arrangement rather than being relabeled as the questionnaire's distinct Wi-Fi Direct option.

For ordinary network printing, HP documents AirPrint and Mopria. A mobile device reaches the printer through the appropriate shared local network. The review lists that network routine separately from direct computer USB and from legacy peer printing. It does not assign the office's SMTP or shared-folder scan service to a nearby direct-print connection.

The original AirPrint section excludes USB connections for this model and warns elsewhere that Mac HP-driver duplex options might not be available through AirPrint. Consequently, mobile printing does not automatically inherit the computer driver's confirmed automatic-duplex controls.

Two paper stacks and a separate one-sided scanner

The included inputs hold 250 ordinary sheets in the main tray and ten in the priority tray. The latter is a genuine small stack, so total normal print capacity is 260 sheets. The scanner's 35-page feeder is a different input and is excluded from that total.

The original size table independently checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both print feeds and the automatic duplex column. With a compatible driver and approved ordinary stock, those sizes support automatic two-sided printing. The separate type table approves Plain and its specified lighter or midweight categories but excludes heavy categories, labels, transparencies and envelopes from automatic duplex. General input weight support is not permission to duplex every media type.

For priority-tray envelopes, follow this model's own orientation: face up, top edge toward the right and postage end entering last. Select the correct size and Envelope type. That instruction differs from other HP lasers, and an ordinary-sheet or duplex setting should not be substituted for it.

The original scanner columns confirm color capture, Letter/A4 glass and a feeder reaching Legal. Exact technical specifications give a 35-sheet ADF with no automatic duplex scanning. Automatic two-sided print output and generic two-sided copy menus therefore do not make this a single-pass or automatic duplex document scanner. Use the feeder for the confirmed Legal route without enlarging the glass specification.

Fax, supplies and physical fit finish the configuration

Fax uses a separate suitable telephone connection. HP describes an analog device and recommends a dedicated analog line. Configure its answer settings and identification, then run the original fax test with the actual service. Wireless networking itself does not provide telephone fax service.

The exact US supplies are 83A CF283A, nominally around 1,500 black pages, or 83X CF283X around 2,200. Those replacement figures do not reveal remaining installed toner. The touchscreen and color scanner do not create a need for color toner cartridges.

Width is approximately 17.42 inches and height 14.6. Depth and weight are left unconfirmed because original and current specifications use conflicting values or access states. Check the actual printer, dust cover and paper supports. M225dw fits an earlier modest monochrome office workflow when its simplex originals, real network destinations and compatible software meet the required jobs.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original model table and exact US headline up to 26 Letter ppm, separately 25 A4. Recommended monthly printing 500–2,000. Maximum duty unknown because exact US store says 30,000 while exact original support says 15,000; neither substituted as recommendation. Scan ppm and print ppm separate.

Paper handling

Original exact columns include genuine 10-sheet priority tray and 250-sheet main input, 260 normal sheets total; 35-page ADF separate. Actually viewed size table positively checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both inputs and automatic-duplex column. Actually viewed type table includes Plain, Light 60–74, Intermediate 85–95 and Midweight 96–110 g/m² for automatic duplex but excludes Heavy 111–130, labels, envelopes and transparencies. Broader general 60–163 input weight not borrowed as duplex allowance. Priority-tray envelope procedure face up/top edge toward tray right/postage end enters last; select actual size/type, no envelope duplex.

Scanning arrangement

Original exact columns positively color scan, flatbed up to Letter/A4 and feeder up to Legal. Exact specifications 35-page ADF with no duplex scanning; retained Letter/Legal/A4 simplex feeder route, Letter/A4 glass only. Generic Copy on both sides section is not proof of automatic original-side scanning.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact M225dw includes USB 2.0, 10/100 Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi. Original peer feature is legacy HP Wireless Direct, not relabeled Wi-Fi Direct. Touchscreen native SMTP email/shared-folder scan services need configured working network destinations; actual compatible HP Scan provides computer scanning. Network AirPrint/Mopria and documented legacy Direct AirPrint are separate arrangements; analog fax line separate.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact US replacement 83A CF283A nominal approximately 1,500 black pages or 83X CF283X approximately 2,200. Remaining installed toner unknown. No standard-yield test on another printer is represented as an M225 test; no current cost per page assigned.

Software and support

Computer HP Scan must actually work with the chosen operating system and USB/network setup; original exact columns include HP Scan driver and manual gives file-save routine. HP driver automatic print duplex may not be exposed by AirPrint, so mobile duplex unknown. Hardware PIN-held document release not established; general secure-authentication marketing, administration password and scan-profile PIN are not sufficient evidence.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US #BGJ model identity and documented 110–127 VAC 50/60 Hz configuration; separate 220–240 VAC hardware, not dual voltage. Width 17.42 and height 14.6 in retained with original approximate 17.4/14.6. Depth unknown: exact current US 11.37 closed/16.05 maximum versus original product 16.1 without matching access-state qualification. Weight unknown: original exact 11.0 kg/24.3 lb with toner versus current 11.1 kg/24.4 lb. Verify actual footprint and paper supports.
