A useful fit for

Modest monochrome documents from a compatible USB or ordinary Wi-Fi computer setup; Apple mobile printing after verifying compatible firmware.

The main tradeoff

No automatic duplex, Ethernet or document capture. Older firmware/mobile records differ, legacy Wireless Direct is not tagged Wi-Fi Direct, and the actual CE657A cable provision needs checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an earlier P1102w print from an Apple device through ordinary Wi-Fi when compatible AirPrint firmware has been verified?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled under the stated firmware and network setup. Older records differ, so verify the unit’s compatible firmware; no specific mobile paper size or desktop envelope controls are assumed.

Can a USB computer automatically duplex Letter pages on this printer?

Fails automatic print duplex. The actual compatible-driver routine requires the user to reload the first-side stack and click Continue for side two.

A small wireless monochrome printer with a firmware condition

The HP LaserJet Pro P1102w is an earlier print-only laser for modest black-and-white documents from a compatible USB computer or ordinary wireless network. Its two feeds hold 160 ordinary sheets. The deciding tradeoff is manual two-sided printing, with mobile printing also requiring attention to the actual firmware.

HP's exact US listing identifies CE657A#BGJ and explicitly says discontinued. This assessment covers the documented 115–127-volt, 60-Hz low-voltage configuration. HP separately lists a 220–240-volt, 50-Hz edition and explicitly says the supply is not dual voltage. Check the actual label on an older machine.

This is not a document-capture device. It has no scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax; generic support software names do not add that hardware.

USB and infrastructure Wi-Fi are different working arrangements

The original wireless-model comparison and exact specifications establish USB 2.0 plus 802.11b/g wireless networking. The back-port diagram shows USB rather than Ethernet. A wired office network requirement cannot be met by renaming the included wireless radio.

For a direct computer setup, use an actually compatible driver and an A-to-B USB cable no longer than two metres. The original installer asks when to attach it. Have that cable available: the later P1102w US record lists it separately, but the original CE657A bundle provision needs checking. Historical operating-system and Smart Install instructions are not a guarantee that every present computer can use the old installation method.

For ordinary wireless printing, join a suitable network and install the compatible computer printer software. The original configuration utility can use a temporary USB link during wireless setup. The configuration page supplies the actual IP address, and the embedded web server exposes network settings. A network-administration password is not a document-release PIN.

AirPrint is supported under the documented firmware arrangement

The older preserved model record says mobile printing is unsupported. A later HP P1102w technical record instead names AirPrint and says a firmware upgrade may be required. The revised original user guide gives an AirPrint network-printing procedure, and HP's current model compatibility table specifically includes P1102w AirPrint.

These sources support a conditional AirPrint arrangement: verify compatible installed firmware, connect the printer to the suitable ordinary Wi-Fi network and use a supported Apple device and print-enabled application on that network. They do not justify assuming that an untouched older unit has the capability ready.

HP's older Wireless Direct wording is separate from the questionnaire's Wi-Fi Direct choice. The revised manual even excludes P1102w from its differently named HP Direct Print section, while later records list Wireless Direct. That version-dependent peer feature is not used to create a Wi-Fi Direct match. Mopria and PIN-held release remain unconfirmed.

Two feeds give 160 ordinary sheets

The main tray holds 150 sheets of 75-g/m² paper, and the priority slot holds ten. The original table positively checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both feeds, supporting 160 ordinary sheets of the chosen size in the computer-driver arrangement.

Load ordinary stock face up with its top toward the printer, adjust the guides and straighten the stack before replenishing it. The original short-media extender belongs to base non-wireless models; it is not an additional tray in this configuration.

A separate envelope job changes the feed's contents. The priority slot holds one supported envelope, while the main tray can hold up to ten. Load laser-compatible envelopes face up with the left short edge leading, and match the actual size and Envelope type in the driver. The ordinary-paper total is not an envelope count.

The AirPrint plan does not borrow the desktop driver's size, capacity or special-envelope controls. Confirm an essential mobile paper routine independently rather than combining separate job paths.

Manual duplex, toner and usable space

The original Windows routine selects manual two-sided printing in Finishing, prints side one, then requires the user to preserve the stack orientation and reload it printed side down. Continue on the computer prints side two. There is no automatic reversing mechanism.

The maker maximum is 19 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 18 A4. These are declarations, not measurements made here. HP recommends 250–1,500 monthly pages, distinct from a 5,000-page maximum duty rating. An attended two-sided batch has its additional handling step.

The exact US cartridge list supports 85A CE285A, declared at approximately 1,600 replacement pages under ISO/IEC 19752. That replacement figure does not establish the supplied cartridge or remaining toner in an older CE657A package. No live cost per page is calculated.

Current body dimensions are 13.74 inches wide, 9.38 deep and 7.71 high, superseding the original explicitly preliminary generic table. Extended paper, output and cartridge access need additional space. Choose the P1102w for a prepared monochrome USB or wireless routine, with the AirPrint firmware condition checked before relying on a phone or tablet.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 19 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 18 A4 in the original wireless-model column. Exact US speed statement uses ISO/IEC 24734 excluding the first test set, dependent on computer/software/driver/document. Recommended monthly range 250–1,500 pages differs from 5,000 maximum duty; no measured throughput, quality or noise claim.

Paper handling

Included 150-sheet main tray at 75-g/m² ordinary paper plus genuine ten-sheet priority slot, total 160. Personally viewed original Letter/Legal/A4 positive checkmarks in both feeds and actual loading/capacity. Normal computer-driver plans support these sizes and 160 included ordinary sheets. Priority special-media job holds one envelope instead of ten ordinary sheets; main tray up to ten supported envelopes. Load envelopes face up with the left short edge leading, actual driver size and Envelope type; ordinary stock face up/top toward printer, guides adjusted. Manual duplex only; base-model short-media extender not added to wireless-model hardware.

Scanning arrangement

Actual original monochrome print-only wireless architecture and black toner cartridge, no scanner, feeder, flatbed, standalone copier or fax. A generic current support app list or generated supply-store paragraph does not establish paper capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact US P1102w CE657A#BGJ includes USB 2.0 and 802.11b/g infrastructure Wi-Fi, no included Ethernet. Compatible-firmware AirPrint on the ordinary network is positively supported by the revised original manual, later exact P1102w record and current named-model matrix. The older 4110306 no-mobile statement is retained as a firmware/version boundary. Legacy Wireless Direct versus the original HP Direct Print exclusion remains unresolved for individual old firmware: no Wi-Fi Direct or peer plan created.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact current US 85A CE285A compatibility explicitly includes P1102w CE657A#BGJ; replacement approximately 1,600 black pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Supplied yield and used-cartridge remainder for this original CE657A package remain unconfirmed; the later P1102w technical record’s introductory figure is not borrowed as a box promise. No live cost per page.

Software and support

Compatible computer driver required for USB or infrastructure Wi-Fi. Original Windows manual duplex selects Finishing/Print On Both Sides (manually), prints side one, keeps stack orientation, reloads printed side down and clicks Continue. No automatic reversing mechanism. Original USB setup requires an A-to-B cable no longer than two metres and connects only when prompted. Have that cable available: the later P1102w US record lists it separately, while the original CE657A bundle provision is not independently established here. Historical software/Smart Install/ePrint text is not a present compatibility or retired-cloud-service promise. Compatible-firmware AirPrint belongs to a separate ordinary Wi-Fi network mobile-print plan; no desktop envelope, size or capacity requirement borrowed into it. Mopria/PIN release unconfirmed.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US discontinued model identity and documented 115–127-V 60-Hz low-voltage edition. Separate 220–240-V 50-Hz version is explicitly not dual voltage, depending on option code; inspect the actual label. Current exact wireless-model body 13.74×9.38×7.71 inches controls the original explicitly preliminary generic/base table. Current fully opened 16.15-inch depth/8.98-inch height differs from closed body; allow paper, output and cartridge access. Original output count of 125 versus the current 100 differs; no numeric output-capacity guarantee.
