Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an earlier P1109w print ordinary monochrome Legal documents over Wi-Fi with 160 included sheets and a 1,500-page monthly recommendation?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, a working compatible wireless network and actual computer driver. Both original feed columns positively support Legal; the ten-sheet priority feed is an ordinary stack feed.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it print from a supported Apple device over the ordinary Wi-Fi network after verifying compatible AirPrint firmware?
Qualifies under the separately documented network/mobile plan with earlier references enabled. The exact P1109w record warns that a firmware upgrade may be needed; desktop size and envelope controls are not assumed.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the wireless printer also scan paper originals to the computer?
Fails scanning. The genuine technical record and original architecture establish print-only hardware; a generated supply-store paragraph mentioning scan/copy is not evidence of a scanner.

The HP LaserJet Pro P1109w is a print-only monochrome laser with USB, ordinary 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and 160 ordinary input sheets. It fits a prepared computer document routine, with a separately documented AirPrint arrangement after checking compatible firmware. Its deciding limitation is manual two-sided printing, with no scanner or automatic duplex mechanism.
HP's exact US product listing identifies CE662A and explicitly says discontinued. This review covers the documented 115–127-volt, 60-Hz low-voltage edition. The separately listed 220–240-volt, 50-Hz configuration is a different regional power version, and HP explicitly says the supply is not dual voltage. Check the actual unit's rating.
The genuine P1109w technical record describes one black print cartridge and printer functions. A generated supply-store paragraph mentioning scan and copy does not add missing document-capture hardware.
Prepare the computer or network path you will actually use
For direct computer printing, use an actually compatible driver and the appropriate A-to-B USB cable, no longer than two metres under the original guide's specification. Its installation routine connects USB when the installer requests it. The Americas box excludes that cable.
The wireless route uses a compatible 802.11b/g network. The original configuration utility can temporarily connect the computer by USB to set the network arrangement. Confirm the actual network address on the configuration page, then use the compatible installed computer driver for ordinary jobs.
This Wi-Fi radio is not an Ethernet port. The original back view shows USB and power rather than a wired-network socket. Historical Windows and Mac lists are not a blanket promise for a current operating system, and old Smart Install or ePrint instructions are not a present cloud-service guarantee.
HP's exact P1109w specifications independently name AirPrint and warn that mobile compatibility may require a firmware upgrade. With compatible firmware verified, connect the printer and supported Apple device to the suitable ordinary wireless network, select the printer in a print-enabled application and print. This is a separate mobile plan; it does not inherit every paper or envelope control from a desktop driver.
Older Wireless Direct wording has a separate meaning
The P1109w record also names legacy Wireless Direct. The revised original guide describes enabling its older direct feature through the embedded web server and using an HP print application. That wording does not establish the distinct Wi-Fi Direct protocol offered by the questionnaire.
The guide explicitly excludes P1102w from its HP Direct Print section, so even two close wireless model names should not be treated as identical. This P1109w assessment preserves its own positive legacy wording but uses the independently established ordinary Wi-Fi and AirPrint routes for matching. Mopria and PIN-held job release remain unconfirmed.
A wireless-administration password protects settings. The physical cable-lock slot protects equipment. Neither proves a workflow that stores a confidential print job until a user enters a PIN.
160 ordinary sheets, with one envelope in the priority slot
The original wireless configuration has a 150-sheet main tray and a ten-sheet priority feed. The capacity basis for ordinary main-tray paper is 75g/m². Letter, Legal and A4 each have positive checks in both original feed columns, establishing 160 included ordinary sheets of each size for the documented computer-driver plans.
Load ordinary paper face up with its top toward the printer, set the guides and straighten the full stack when adding stock. The small feed can hold a short ordinary batch; its special-media limits are different.
One supported envelope goes in the priority slot, while the main tray can hold up to ten envelopes. Load laser-compatible envelopes face up with the left short edge leading and match the actual size and Envelope media type in the driver. A priority envelope replaces the ordinary ten-sheet stack in that same feed.
Manual duplex selects the driver Finishing option, prints the first side, then requires the user to keep the stack orientation and reload it printed side down. Click Continue on the computer for side two. It is an attended paper routine, not automatic output.
Introductory and replacement toner are separate declarations
The exact P1109w box declaration includes an introductory black cartridge rated at approximately 700 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 and continuous printing. The 85A CE285A replacement is approximately 1,600 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The original declaration names CE285A for P1109w, and HP's current cartridge compatibility list explicitly maps CE662A. Neither figure tells you the toner remaining in a used machine.
The maker maximum is 19 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 18 A4 in the original wireless comparison. Recommended volume is 250–1,500 pages per month, distinct from the 5,000-page maximum duty rating. No speed, quality, noise or running-cost measurement was made for this review.
Current exact body figures are 13.74 inches wide, 9.38 deep, 7.71 high and 11.6lb product weight. Paper supports, output and cartridge access need more room than that closed body. Choose the P1109w for a verified modest monochrome workflow; essential paper capture or unattended duplex needs different documented hardware.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 19 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 18 A4 in the original wireless-model column. Exact US speed statement uses ISO/IEC 24734 excluding the first test set, dependent on computer/software/driver/document. Recommended monthly range 250–1,500 pages differs from 5,000 maximum duty; no measured throughput, quality or noise claim.
Paper handling
Included 150-sheet main tray at 75-g/m² ordinary paper plus genuine ten-sheet priority slot, total 160. Personally viewed original Letter/Legal/A4 positive checkmarks in both feeds and actual loading/capacity. Normal computer-driver plans support these sizes and 160 included ordinary sheets. Priority special-media job holds one envelope instead of ten ordinary sheets; main tray up to ten supported envelopes. Load envelopes face up with the left short edge leading, actual driver size and Envelope type; ordinary stock face up/top toward printer, guides adjusted. Manual duplex only; base-model short-media extender not added to wireless-model hardware.
Scanning arrangement
Actual original monochrome print-only wireless architecture and black toner cartridge, no scanner, feeder, flatbed, standalone copier or fax. A generic current support app list or generated supply-store paragraph does not establish paper capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact US P1109w CE662A includes USB 2.0 and 802.11b/g infrastructure Wi-Fi, no Ethernet. The actual exact model 8501692 independently names AirPrint with a possible firmware-upgrade requirement; the normal network mobile plan explicitly requires verified compatible firmware. Legacy Wireless Direct is retained as its own earlier feature, not relabeled Wi-Fi Direct or combined with desktop controls; no peer plan created.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact P1109w box includes introductory black toner approximately 700 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 and continuous printing. Replacement 85A CE285A approximately 1,600 black pages under ISO/IEC 19752; original declaration explicitly names P1109w/CE285A and current HP exact cartridge list maps CE662A. Original and replacement declarations are separate, used remaining toner unknown; no live price per page.
Software and support
Compatible computer driver required for USB or infrastructure Wi-Fi. Original Windows manual duplex selects Finishing/Print On Both Sides (manually), prints side one, keeps stack orientation, reloads printed side down and clicks Continue. No automatic reversing mechanism. Original USB setup requires A-to-B cable no longer than two metres and connects only when prompted; Americas cable excluded. Historical software/Smart Install/ePrint text is not a present compatibility or retired-cloud-service promise. Compatible-firmware AirPrint belongs to a separate ordinary Wi-Fi network mobile-print plan; no desktop envelope, size or capacity requirement borrowed into it. Mopria/PIN release unconfirmed.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US discontinued model identity and documented 115–127-V 60-Hz low-voltage edition. Separate 220–240-V 50-Hz version is explicitly not dual voltage, depending on option code; inspect the actual label. Current exact wireless-model body 13.74×9.38×7.71 inches controls the original explicitly preliminary generic/base table. Current fully opened 16.15-inch depth/8.98-inch height differs from closed body; allow paper, output and cartridge access. Original output count of 125 versus the current 100 differs; no numeric output-capacity guarantee.
