Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can it handle a wired monochrome Letter workload with automatic duplex?
The documented 120 V arrangement supports Ethernet, Letter duplex and 600 sheets of included normal paper input. A 20,000-page monthly requirement stays within the source's stated recommended maximum; the much larger duty limit is a separate figure.
Explore this need in the finder →Does automatic duplex also give it document scanning?
No. This is a dedicated printer. Two-sided printed output does not establish a scanner or an automatic document feeder.
Explore this need in the finder →Is Wi-Fi part of the standard included configuration?
No. The source identifies the wireless interface as an option. The documented base network route is wired Ethernet.

The Kyocera ECOSYS FS-4100DN makes most sense as a dedicated black-and-white document printer on a wired office network. It combines automatic two-sided printing with a substantial standard paper supply, without adding a scanner, copier or fax machine to the desk.
A useful distinction in its original American specification is the separate recommended monthly range. Kyocera gives 2,000–25,000 pages per month as the recommendation, alongside a much higher maximum duty figure. That makes the workload discussion more meaningful than choosing an older office printer by its largest advertised number.
Match the speed figure to the actual paper and printing method
The declared one-sided engine rates are 47ppm for Letter, 38ppm for Legal and 45ppm for A4. Automatic duplex has its own stated Letter rate of 33ppm. They are different reference conditions, so the faster one-sided headline should not be used as the two-sided result.
For the person preparing reports or long office documents, the practical choice is whether duplex and the normal paper handling reduce repeated intervention. A manufacturer's engine rate is not our timed result for waking the device, preparing an application job and completing every sheet. Compare equivalent paper and job conditions when deciding between models.
The 600-sheet package is the starting point
The normal configuration has a 500-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Letter, Legal and A4 are named for both paths, while their permitted paper weights differ. The listed 2,600-sheet maximum is an expansion configuration, rather than the equipment every FS-4100DN automatically includes.
Check the actual installed drawers when evaluating a specific offer or an existing office machine. Optional feeders and the optional face-up output tray have their own permitted sizes and media. An expansion maximum should not replace the standard capacity in a comparison, and a paper stock suitable for one input path should not automatically be sent through duplex.
Wired networking and mobile printing can belong together
Gigabit Ethernet and a USB 2 computer connection are standard. The sheet also lists AirPrint for the supported network arrangement. A wired printer can serve compatible mobile devices through an appropriately shared network without having its own wireless radio.
Built-in Wi-Fi is therefore the wrong assumption here. The IB-51 wireless LAN interface is an option. Distinguish that installed accessory from the basic configuration, and check current drivers and network requirements before buying an earlier unit. The USB host sockets for flash-drive printing are also different from the USB connection to a computer.
Know which document tasks still need another device
The FS-4100DN is a dedicated printer. It does not give a user a flatbed for a bound original, an automatic feeder for scanning a stack or a fax workflow. Standard print duplex only concerns printed output. If capturing documents is part of the purchase, compare a suitable multifunction model or plan a separate scanner.
The original sheet lists private-print and document-storage functions, with standard and optional storage equipment described separately. The assessment does not turn that feature name into an unconditional PIN-release promise for every driver or job type. Check the exact supported implementation if confidential held jobs are an essential requirement.
Inspect the complete installation and ownership condition
The reviewed 120V/60Hz configuration has a documented body of 15.35×16.14×12.6in and a stated weight of 32.19lb. Allow more room for paper access, opening, cables and any installed options. The same sheet also lists a 220–240V edition, so match the physical unit's electrical label and regional supplies.
Kyocera identifies TK-3112 toner with a declared 15,500-page replacement yield and an 8,000-page starter yield under its stated ISO basis. Those figures do not reveal the remaining toner or imaging-component condition in a used machine. Choose the FS-4100DN for a documented wired monochrome workload and included paper routine, then verify condition, accessories, supplies and present computer support rather than assuming an older product's support wording covers every later setup.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker declares 47 ppm Letter, 38 ppm Legal and 45 ppm A4; separately states 33 ppm Letter duplex. These are stated engine rates, not our measured complete-job times.
Paper handling
Included 500-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet multipurpose tray; Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly listed for both. 2,600-sheet maximum requires optional equipment.
Scanning arrangement
Dedicated black-and-white network printer, without a scanner, copier, feeder or fax routine.
Computer and mobile connections
Standard Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2 computer interfaces; IB-51 wireless LAN is optional. USB flash-drive host ports are distinct from the computer USB connection.
Supplies and declared yields
Original US sheet names TK-3112 at declared 15,500 pages and supplied starter 8,000 pages under ISO 19752; actual remaining toner and present package contents must be checked.
Software and support
The source names period Windows/Mac/Linux drivers and AirPrint. Confirm current software and network support; the listed Private Print name alone is not treated as a fully established PIN workflow.
Electrical edition and setup
Reviewed 120 V/60 Hz configuration; the source separately lists 220–240 V. 15.35 × 16.14 × 12.6 in body/32.19 lb excludes tray, cable and operating clearance.
