Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can it combine USB monochrome duplex output, copying/fax and automatic Legal color scanning?
The documented USB MFP arrangement supports those routines with compatible drivers and a separate suitable fax-line setup. Its75-sheet feeder reverses originals; Legal glass is independently supported.
Explore this need in the finder →Does automatic duplex scanning mean single-pass here?
No. The exact American reference identifies a reversing automatic document processor.
Explore this need in the finder →Can an ordinary included Wi-Fi setup be assumed from wireless upgrade support?
No. The standard interfaces are USB and Ethernet; the wireless interfaces are optional.

The Kyocera ECOSYS M3645idn is a monochrome multifunction printer with color scanning, copying and fax hardware. Its close M3145idn relative is listed without fax in the original American comparison. That difference matters more than a shared appearance if your office needs the full four-function arrangement.
The useful starting combination is a reversing document feeder, Legal-capable glass, wired computer connections and automatic print duplex. It suits a document-focused office that can work within those conditions. It does not satisfy color-output needs merely because it scans in color and has a color touchscreen.
Legal originals have two genuinely documented paths
The 75-sheet reversing automatic document processor handles suitable loose originals. The operation guide separately gives the scanner glass a Legal/Folio original limit. Someone scanning a Legal original that should not pass through a feeder can therefore check the glass routine on its own evidence, rather than assume a Legal printer must also have Legal glass.
Automatic two-sided scanning reverses the document. It is a different mechanism from a single-pass scanner and should be compared accordingly. Respect the feeder's stock and loading limits; the nominal stack capacity is not a promise for every paper weight or condition.
Match the connection to the way documents move
The guide documents USB and Ethernet scanner interfaces, compatible computer drivers and configured destinations such as SMB or email. A direct desktop connection and a shared-network installation are both possible documented arrangements, but they have different software and permission steps. A scan destination must actually be reachable.
Wireless IB-36 and IB-51 interfaces are optional. The American comparison also makes AirPrint conditional on IB-36; the later guide's generic AirPrint section does not settle that exact configuration condition. Verify the installed package if Apple printing is decisive. Mopria is separately documented for its compatible network arrangement, while a USB-only connection does not create a network-print route.
600 sheets are standard; more drawers need checking
The supplied paper arrangement is a 500-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose tray under the guide's stated ordinary-paper conditions. The 2,600-sheet maximum requires additional PF-3110 drawers. In the original comparison, example photographs explicitly show optional drawers, so an image of a tall machine should not be treated as the base package.
Letter, Legal and A4 are named in the paper tables, with automatic duplex handling documented for the applicable range and stock. Envelope work uses its own instructed path. Check the real media routine and included drawers before relying on a headline capacity.
Private jobs and application options have separate requirements
The original operation guide explains a four-digit Private Print code selected in a compatible desktop driver and entered at the panel before release. The RAM-disk Job Box needs the appropriate setup. Stored Job and Quick Copy have different optional-storage requirements, as does the stated HyPAS application capability.
This distinction helps prevent buying an accessory that is unnecessary for one routine or missing one that another routine requires. It also avoids assuming that mobile printing exposes every job control offered by the supported desktop driver. Check the exact present software rather than treating an old list of applications as a current service guarantee.
Compare the exact model and ownership conditions
The guide gives the M3645idn one-sided rates of 47 pages per minute on Letter, 38 on Legal and 45 on A4. Those figures do not describe the faster M3655idn or turn scanner images per minute into print speed. We have not measured real-job throughput or output quality.
The body is approximately 18.71×18.74×22.64 inches before working clearance. Check lifting instructions and weight basis, and leave space for the feeder, trays, cables and service. The reviewed electrical version is 120V/60Hz, with other-voltage versions separately specified. The American supply reference identifies TK-3162 toner and separates initial from replacement yields under ISO assumptions. Before choosing this earlier model, verify the actual electrical label, installed options, present drivers and component condition alongside its documented document-handling fit.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact M3645idn guide column declares 47 ppm Letter, 38 ppm Legal, 45 ppm A4 for one-sided output. Scanner images/minute and duplex output are different conditions.
Paper handling
Standard 500-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet multipurpose tray at stated 80 gsm ordinary-paper condition. 600 included sheets; 2,600 requires optional PF3110 drawers. Letter/Legal/A4 names and automatic-duplex range checked in exact guide.
Scanning arrangement
75-sheet reversing automatic document feeder and Legal-capable glass, with color scanning. Automatic two-sided scanning is supported; reversing is not single-pass. USB and Ethernet scanner interfaces with compatible drivers/destinations are documented.
Computer and mobile connections
Standard USB computer and Gigabit Ethernet. IB36/IB51 wireless optional. American comparison specifically conditions AirPrint on IB36; later generic guide paragraph does not resolve standard wired AirPrint. Mopria is separately documented.
Supplies and declared yields
Original US comparison identifies TK-3162, 6,000-page initial toner and 12,500-page standard replacement under its ISO 19752 footnote. These declarations are not current price or remaining-life measurements.
Software and support
Compatible desktop-driver four-digit Private Print, with enabled RAM-disk Job Box. Stored Job/Quick Copy and HyPAS application support have separate optional-storage requirements. No retired cloud-service availability claim.
Electrical edition and setup
Reviewed 120 V/60 Hz/10 A configuration; 220–240 V separately listed. Body 18.71 × 18.74 × 22.64 in. American comparison reports 48.5 lb; guide separately labels without-toner basis. Allow full paper/feeder/service access and inspect the exact electrical label.
