ECOSYS P3050dnIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

An office sharing monochrome documents over Ethernet, with a compatible desktop-driver routine for held private jobs.

The main tradeoff

Wi-Fi is optional, scanning is absent, and duplex speed is lower than the one-sided headline. Electrical versions and installed accessories need an exact-unit check.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it print Letter documents automatically on both sides over Ethernet with a 600-sheet included supply?

Yes, in the documented wired configuration and stated ordinary-paper capacity condition. The exact model declares 52 ppm one-sided Letter; duplex printing has its separate 37 ppm Letter rate.

Does the standard configuration satisfy a requirement for included Wi-Fi?

No. Wireless and Wi-Fi Direct depend on separately identified optional hardware.

Can a compatible USB desktop driver use PIN release without buying an SSD?

The guide explicitly allows the RAM disk for Private Print. Enable RAM-disk mode, follow compatible-driver instructions and enter the documented four-digit code at release. Other storage modes have different requirements.

A workgroup printer with a specific job

The Kyocera ECOSYS P3050dn is a monochrome printer for an office that already knows how it will handle scanning and copying. Its useful starting point is wired sharing, automatic two-sided printing and a standard paper supply that can hold more than a small desktop drawer. The printer itself does not replace a scanner, copier or fax machine.

Consider it when documents are the priority and Ethernet is convenient. If your installation depends on included Wi-Fi, choose a model whose standard configuration actually provides it, or verify the exact optional hardware fitted to this machine. The ability to add wireless is different from having wireless in the supplied unit.

Compare the exact speed column and paper size

The original operation guide places four related printers in adjacent columns. For the P3050dn, the declared one-sided rate is 52 pages per minute on Letter, 50 on A4 and 42 on Legal. Those are different paper conditions, rather than interchangeable descriptions of the same job.

Automatic duplex printing has its own figures: 37 pages per minute on Letter, 36 on A4 and 21 on Legal. A buyer who regularly produces two-sided Legal documents should compare that last condition, rather than assume the headline Letter speed applies. These are manufacturer declarations; we have not timed this printer or measured a complete application-to-output workflow.

The included trays provide 600 sheets under the stated condition

The standard paper arrangement is a 500-sheet cassette and 100-sheet multipurpose tray, with those capacities stated for 80gsm stock. The exact paper tables name Letter, Legal and A4. Check the permitted weight, tray setting and duplex instructions when changing paper, especially if an office uses heavier stock as well as everyday documents.

The multipurpose path also has an instructed envelope routine. That does not turn envelopes into supported ordinary-paper automatic-duplex media. Likewise, an expanded paper configuration shown in a listing should be checked against the actual included drawers. Additional feeders change both the amount of paper available and the space needed for the installed machine.

Private Print can use RAM, with a real setup requirement

The guide documents a four-digit access code chosen in the compatible printer driver and entered at the printer before a Private Print job is released. For someone printing documents that should not immediately appear in a shared output tray, this is more useful evidence than a general reference to security features.

The storage distinction matters. The documented RAM disk supports Private Print and Proof-and-Hold when enabled, while other storage modes have separate optional-SSD requirements. RAM-disk space comes from printer memory and is temporary: reset or power-off clears its contents. Do not assume that every mobile-print route exposes the same job controls as the compatible desktop driver.

Use wired networking without borrowing optional wireless

The machine has a USB computer interface and a wired network connector. The manual describes Ethernet configuration, AirPrint and Mopria in their supported network arrangements. A USB memory-device socket is a different interface from the computer cable, and neither one by itself creates a wireless network.

Wi-Fi Direct is documented with the optional IB-36 wireless kit; other wireless hardware is also identified as optional. Inspect the installed equipment before relying on a wireless claim in a used or reseller listing. For present-day computers, check the exact driver and protocol requirements instead of treating the guide's historical operating-system list as a promise of universal current support.

Check the electrical version, supplies and working footprint

The reviewed 120V configuration is specified for 60Hz and 10A. The guide lists 220–240V versions separately. The model name alone is therefore not enough to settle the electrical version of an individual machine; inspect the actual rating label and the source of the unit.

The P3050dn body is approximately 15.0 inches wide, 16.14 deep and 12.63 high, weighing about 34.2lb. Leave additional room for paper handling, cables and service access. The original toner section gives a 15,500-image replacement figure and 8,000-image supplied container under its stated test assumptions. Those figures do not establish current running cost or the remaining condition of an older unit. Choose this printer for a verified wired document routine, then check those ownership details before committing.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original P3050dn column: one-sided Letter 52 ppm, A4 50 ppm and Legal 42 ppm; automatic duplex Letter 37 ppm, A4 36 ppm and Legal 21 ppm. These are declared rates, not our measured job times.

Paper handling

Standard 500-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet multipurpose tray at the stated 80 gsm condition. Letter, Legal and A4 are named. Optional feeders and specialty media follow their own instructions; envelopes do not qualify for an ordinary-paper duplex promise.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated monochrome printer. Job Box stores print jobs; it does not provide a scanner or document copier.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard USB computer interface and wired network connector. IB36/IB51 wireless options are separate; Wi-Fi Direct requires the optional IB36. AirPrint/Mopria belong to the configured network arrangement.

Supplies and declared yields

Original maintenance section assigns P3050dn 15,500-image replacement toner and an 8,000-image supplied container under the stated ISO/IEC 19752 assumptions. No current supply price or remaining-life claim.

Software and support

Four-digit Private Print release uses a compatible driver and the documented RAM-disk Job Box mode; enable the RAM disk and allow sufficient memory. Optional SSD is required for other storage modes, but not this documented RAM-disk private-print route.

Electrical edition and setup

Reviewed 120 V/60 Hz/10 A configuration; 220–240 V versions are separately specified. Body approximately 15.0 × 16.14 × 12.63 in and 34.2 lb, before operating clearance. Historical supported-OS lists are not a guarantee for every current computer.
