ECOSYS P6230cdnIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

An office needing color documents and wired sharing, with scanning and copying handled by another device.

The main tradeoff

No scanner or copier, optional wireless, and a substantial 21-inch body depth. Higher-resolution output has a reduced-speed condition, and Apple printing needs an exact configuration check.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it print color Letter documents on both sides over Ethernet with 600 standard sheets?

Yes, with the documented ordinary-paper setup. The declared 32 ppm Letter figure is one-sided; automatic duplex has its separate 15 ppm Letter rate.

Can it replace a scanner and copier?

No. The exact model is a dedicated color printer; generic driver and network-protocol names do not add scanning hardware.

Does the compatible USB desktop routine support PIN-release printing?

The original guide documents four-digit Private Print with Job Box/RAM-disk setup. Other storage modes and mobile routes have different conditions.

A color-output choice for an office with scanning covered

The Kyocera ECOSYS P6230cdn is a dedicated color printer, rather than a multifunction device. It makes sense when an office needs color documents and automatic two-sided output but already has a separate answer for scanning, copying and faxing. Those absent document functions should be settled before comparing print resolution or optional paper drawers.

The standard connections are USB to a computer and Gigabit Ethernet. For a team with convenient wired networking, that provides a documented sharing arrangement. A location dependent on included Wi-Fi needs a different standard package or a precise check of the wireless option installed in the offered unit.

The resolution and speed headlines have different conditions

For both black and color output, the American sheet declares up to 32 pages per minute on Letter, 26 on Legal and 30 on A4 under its one-sided conditions. Automatic duplex is separately rated at 15 pages per minute for Letter and A4 and 13 for Legal. Compare the condition that matches your documents, rather than applying the one-sided Letter figure to every job.

The same sheet puts a reduced-speed footnote on true 1200×1200dpi output. That matters if a higher-resolution setting is central to the work: do not combine its resolution with the fastest declared rate as though both necessarily apply together. We have not measured this printer's output quality, first-page time or throughput.

Start with the 600-sheet supplied arrangement

A 500-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose tray make up the standard input supply. The advertised 2,100-sheet maximum needs optional feeders. Check what the specific package includes, particularly if photographs show a machine sitting on extra drawers.

The specified ordinary-paper range reaches Legal, and the automatic duplex unit has its own paper-weight limits. Envelope handling belongs to the instructed multipurpose path; it is not an ordinary duplex-paper promise. A useful office comparison therefore includes the real paper source and media routine, not just the largest size or capacity listed anywhere in the brochure.

Private Print is a driver-and-panel workflow

The original operation guide describes a four-digit access code selected in the compatible desktop driver and entered at the printer to release a Private Print job. Its RAM-disk setup provides Job Box use, while Stored Job and Quick Copy have separate optional-storage requirements. Confirm the intended setup before relying on held jobs in a shared office.

This is a specific document-release routine, not evidence that every submission from every application automatically waits for a PIN. A mobile-print path and a supported desktop driver's private-job controls may be used as separate documented routines; one should not be invented from the other.

Read the wireless and Apple-printing footnotes

IB-36 and IB-51 wireless interfaces are listed as options. The American sheet specifically makes AirPrint and Wi-Fi Direct conditional on IB-36. The operation guide also describes AirPrint generally, without resolving that exact hardware condition. A buyer choosing mainly for Apple printing should verify the installed configuration rather than assume a standard wired AirPrint route from the generic description.

Mopria is separately documented for its compatible network arrangement. USB desktop printing does not provide either a network or an included radio. Likewise, generic software and protocol names in a family-style list do not give this print-only machine a physical scanner.

Make room for a substantial desktop printer

The body is specified at 15.4 inches wide, 21 deep and 16.2 high, weighing 62.4lb. The depth and weight deserve attention even if the width fits an available desk. Allow additional room for paper access, cables, ventilation and maintenance; optional drawers change the installed arrangement.

The reviewed American version uses 120V/60Hz, with other-voltage versions listed separately. The 100,000-page maximum duty does not establish a recommended monthly workload. Before choosing this older documented model, check its electrical label, present computer support, actual supply package and component condition. Its strongest supported role is color document output in a verified wired setup, with scanning handled elsewhere.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Both black and color declared one-sided rates: 32 ppm Letter, 26 ppm Legal, 30 ppm A4. Duplex is separately 15 ppm Letter/15 ppm A4/13 ppm Legal. True 1200 × 1200 mode carries a reduced-speed footnote.

Paper handling

Included 500-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose tray. 600 standard sheets; 2,100 maximum requires up to three optional PF5100 drawers. Automatic print duplex supports Statement through Legal with specified stock weights.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated color network printer; no scanner or copy/fax hardware. A generic protocol/driver list does not add document-scanning functions to this model.

Computer and mobile connections

USB computer and Gigabit Ethernet standard; IB36/IB51 wireless optional. American sheet specifically requires IB36 for AirPrint/Wi-Fi Direct, while guide AirPrint paragraph is generic; standard wired AirPrint remains unestablished. Mopria is separately documented.

Supplies and declared yields

Separate toner and long-life drum design. No current cartridge-price, cost-per-page or remaining-life claim is established from the read sources.

Software and support

Compatible desktop-driver four-digit Private Print with documented Job Box/RAM disk setup. Stored Job and Quick Copy have optional-storage conditions; do not assume every mobile route provides desktop hold-job controls.

Electrical edition and setup

Reviewed 120 V/60 Hz/9 A configuration, distinct from 220–240 V. Body 15.4 × 21 × 16.2 in and 62.4 lb before open-tray and service clearance; 100,000 maximum duty is not a recommended monthly workload.
