A useful fit for

An office workgroup printing 5,000–75,000 monthly pages and wanting a 550-sheet main drawer with network sharing.

The main tradeoff

The 4,400-sheet maximum and finishing functions need options; generic marketing workload and scanning wording conflict with the detailed hardware record.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

In an office, can I print monochrome Legal duplex documents over Wi-Fi at 60,000 monthly pages, with 650 included sheets and compatible-driver PIN release?

Yes, with earlier references enabled and suitable software/network setup. The documented base supports that print arrangement and 75,000-page recommended maximum; Class A nonresidential conditions apply.

Can it scan originals over Ethernet because a marketing paragraph mentions scanning services?

No. The exact support classification is print-only black-and-white hardware; generic service language and AirScan names do not supply a physical scanner.

Can I plan 80,000 routine monthly pages because marketing mentions 350,000?

No for the selected recommended-volume requirement. The detailed model specification gives 75,000 recommended monthly pages; the conflicting marketing sentence is not used as that limit.

Wireless mono output for a large office workgroup

The Lexmark B2865dw is an earlier large-workgroup printer reference combining included Wi-Fi, a 550-sheet main drawer and a higher declared Letter output rate. It is explicitly an FCC Class A device not intended for residential or domestic environments. Its optional paper and finishing ecosystem can matter in an office, but those accessories are separate from the base package.

This reference covers discontinued US part 50G0900. Verify the actual unit, installed options, regional consumables and current software before comparing an offer. The maker's own page contains inconsistent generic marketing language, so the detailed workload, supply and hardware classifications deserve particular attention. These specifications do not establish present stock, coverage or a machine's condition.

Use the detailed workload table

The exact specifications recommend 5,000–75,000 printed pages monthly and separately state a 300,000-page maximum duty cycle. A generic marketing paragraph instead calls 350,000 a recommended monthly figure. That conflict should not be hidden or converted into a larger routine workload allowance. Use the specific model table for normal planning and verify unusual high-volume requirements directly before purchase.

One-sided Letter output is declared at up to 65 black pages per minute. Automatic print duplex is separately 39 Letter sides per minute. These are manufacturer mode ratings, not measurements from this article. Job complexity, application processing and the spacing of short jobs can alter actual throughput. A maximum continuous-page rate is not a complete prediction of the workgroup's day.

Paper and finishing depend on the real package

Included input is 650 sheets at the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis: 550 in the main drawer and 100 in the multipurpose feeder. Letter, Legal and A4 have positive support in both sources and automatic duplex. Use the appropriate one-sided multipurpose routine for suitable envelopes, with media size and type matched to the actual load.

The 4,400-sheet input maximum depends on optional equipment. The original guide gives specific rules for those configurations, including a caster base and bottom placement for the optional 2,100-sheet drawer. Output expanders, mailboxes and finishers also have supported combinations; a catalogue list is not permission to stack every option together. Check installation support, what is supplied and the driver's installed-options settings before relying on an expanded package.

Shared printing and confidential release

Standard connections include USB Type-B for a computer, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The front Type-A flash-drive input is a separate printing routine. AirPrint and Mopria are documented on a suitable shared network. A direct USB cable does not borrow those mobile network functions, and software compatibility still needs checking on the intended computers.

The original exact-family guide documents confidential Print and Hold or Job Routing jobs submitted with a user name and four-digit PIN, followed by release at the printer. Its non-touchscreen instructions apply to the B2865's 2.4-inch LCD and keypad. This ordinary protected-job routine does not require the optional disk, but every mobile application's print button need not submit the same protected job.

Print-only hardware and the exact toner choices

Lexmark's support page explicitly classifies B2865 as print-only black-and-white laser hardware. A marketing sentence mentioning scanning services, and generic software references to AirScan, do not add a scanner, feeder, copier or fax. The color control LCD also does not make the print engine color.

Supplied toner is declared at 11,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The specific US list includes B281X00 Return Program or B280XA0 regular at 30,000 pages, B281H00 at 15,000 and B281000 at 7,500. That exact table and compatible list exceed the generic marketing sentence's 15,000-page ceiling. Match region and Return Program terms, keeping the imaging unit separate and avoiding a current cost calculation from yield alone.

The body is 16.85 inches wide, 20.1 deep and 17.5 high at 56 pounds before working clearance. Check the actual electrical label and cord. Choose the documented office printing arrangement when its specific workload range fits, and evaluate optional input and finishing as supported physical configurations.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 65 one-sided Letter pages/minute black; automatic print duplex separately 39 Letter sides/minute. Manufacturer declarations, not measured throughput.

Paper handling

Included 550-sheet main tray and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, combined 650 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Both support Letter/Legal/A4, each with automatic print duplex. Maximum 4,400 input and optional finishers require actual supported optional hardware. A 2,100-sheet optional drawer requires caster base and bottom placement; none is included. Envelopes use their separate one-sided feed routine.

Scanning arrangement

Explicitly print-only monochrome laser hardware. No paper scanner, copier, fax or document feeder; generic driver or software lists do not add hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B computer interface, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and front Type-A flash-drive input. Original guide documents AirPrint/Mopria on a suitable shared network. Generic service text mentioning scanning does not add scanner hardware.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied toner declared at 11,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Exact US B281X00 Return Program/B280XA0 regular replacement each 30,000; B281H00 15,000 and B281000 7,500. Generic marketing 15k ceiling conflicts with exact 30k table/compatible list. Separate 58D0Z00/58D0ZA0 imaging unit estimate 150,000 on its stated job/coverage basis. Match region and Return Program conditions.

Software and support

Original guide pages 47–48 document compatible Print and Hold or Job Routing confidential jobs with user name/four-digit PIN and panel release. Non-touchscreen controls apply to B2865. Optional disk/finishing features are separate. Confirm current driver and application support; a mobile print button does not necessarily submit the same protected job.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US 50G0900 explicitly FCC Class A, not intended for residential/domestic environments. Specific table recommends 5,000–75,000 monthly and gives 300,000 maximum duty; generic marketing 350,000 recommendation is contradictory. Nominal mains input unestablished; check actual electrical label/cord. Body dimensions exclude access and service clearance.
