A useful fit for

A wired team making mostly one-sided color documents within 1,500–9,200 recommended monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex is unavailable, Wi-Fi needs optional hardware, and toner is only one part of the color imaging system to inspect.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Ethernet combine color A4 printing, PIN release and 650 included sheets at 8,000 monthly pages?

Yes with compatible confidential-print software. Use 550 ordinary A4 sheets in the drawer plus 100 in the MP feeder, matching size/type and Cassette mode for linking. The recommended ceiling is 9,200 pages/month.

Can this exact n model automatically print both sides of Legal sheets?

No. Legal printing is supported, but the exact C734n specification says automatic duplex is unavailable. The C734dn and C734dw have different hardware.

Does the 85,000-page maximum qualify 10,000 pages as a recommended monthly workload?

No. The recommended range ends at 9,200 pages/month. Maximum duty is a separate figure and cannot replace that recommendation.

Color documents on a wired network

The Lexmark C734n is a color laser printer with included Ethernet and USB, a 550-sheet drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder. US part 25C0350 suits a wired team making mainly one-sided color reports or correspondence within the maker's 1,500–9,200 recommended monthly pages. It declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute in either black or color.

The important limitation is automatic duplex: this exact n model lists it as unavailable. Wireless is optional, and the printer has no scanner, copier or fax. Its tilting four-line display is grayscale even though the print engine makes color pages. Those are separate capabilities.

Decide how the two paper sources will be used

The 650-sheet standard input combines 550 ordinary sheets in the drawer and 100 in the multipurpose feeder at the 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both paths. For a continuous run using both, load matching stock and paper settings and put the multipurpose feeder in Cassette mode for linking.

Alternatively, keep the feeder available for different stock and give it settings that prevent an ordinary job from drawing the wrong paper. It is an open, extended source rather than a second enclosed drawer. The exact extended-tray depth is 20.7 inches, compared with the closed body's 18.5 inches, before allowing room for access.

Suitable envelopes follow a separate one-sided multipurpose-feed routine. The guide specifies the flap facing up and the return-address edge entering first, with the correct Envelope type and size. Envelopes replace the ordinary feeder load for that job. Extra drawers and the 3,750-sheet maximum require additional hardware, while the supplied output bin holds a separate 300 sheets.

Use the correct computer and host connections

USB Type-B connects a computer, and Ethernet provides the included wired network route. Print a network setup page, confirm Connected status and locate the IP address before installing queues. Wireless, gigabit, parallel and serial interfaces are optional; a family wireless chapter does not supply a radio on this configuration.

The front Type-A socket handles supported flash-drive files and a correctly configured PictBridge camera. It is not the computer interface and does not scan paper originals. Check the actual driver and intended application files; historical protocol or operating-system lists do not establish present support. AirPrint and Mopria are unestablished here.

Control color output and confidential jobs deliberately

The original guide provides a Black Only mode, which a driver can override. It also distinguishes Max Speed from Max Yield. Max Yield can switch between black and color according to page content, and repeated switching can slow a mixed job. These controls help explain why one engine-rate declaration does not describe every document's completion time.

Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Macintosh Job Routing software can submit a confidential job with a user name and four-digit PIN. Select it under Held Jobs and enter the PIN at the keypad to release it. The routine uses printer memory and may lose jobs under memory pressure. Optional-disk encryption is a separate feature rather than a requirement stated for ordinary confidential printing.

Inspect the whole color imaging arrangement

The exact US supplied Return Program toner declares 4,000 black and 4,000 composite CMY pages. Replacement declarations are 8,000 black and 6,000 CMY under ISO/IEC 19798 on the maker's continuous-print basis. Confirm each cartridge's exact compatibility and program conditions; a color set has more components to inspect than a single black cartridge.

The original guide separately identifies photoconductors, a waste toner container, fuser and transfer module. Check their status and installed condition as well as toner, including the correct fuser voltage. The 85,000-page maximum monthly duty figure does not replace the 9,200-page recommended ceiling.

Lexmark marks this 56.7-pound model discontinued. Verify its electrical label, proper cord, current software and physical condition. A documented duplex-equipped color model is the practical comparison if two-sided reports matter; choose multifunction hardware if paper capture should be part of the same station.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute for black or color. Automatic duplex is unavailable on this exact n configuration. Specialty media and color-mode switching can reduce throughput; declared Letter speed is not a whole-job measurement.

Paper handling

Included 550-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 650 ordinary sheets at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both paths; link using matching size/type and MP Cassette mode. Suitable envelopes replace the MP ordinary load for separate one-sided jobs. Maximum 3,750 needs optional trays; output is separately 300 sheets.

Scanning arrangement

Color laser print-only hardware has no scanner, document-capture feeder, copying or fax. Its adjustable four-line control display is grayscale; the front USB/PictBridge socket is for supported output files or camera printing.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B computer interface and 10/100 Ethernet. Front Type-A supports documented flash-drive/PictBridge camera output. Wireless, gigabit, parallel and serial hardware are optional; a generic family wireless chapter does not establish an included radio.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact US supplied Return Program toner declares 4,000 black and 4,000 composite CMY pages; replacements declare 8,000 black and 6,000 CMY under ISO/IEC 19798 on the maker’s continuous-print basis. Separate C734X20G/C734X24G photoconductors, C734X77G waste container, fuser and transfer module require their own condition checks.

Software and support

Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Mac Job Routing can submit a confidential job with a four-digit PIN, then release it using Held Jobs and the keypad. Memory pressure can delete held jobs; optional-disk encryption is a separate feature. Black Only mode and Max Speed/Max Yield settings have different purposes. Current OS, AirPrint and Mopria support are unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

Check actual electrical label, proper cord and offered condition; nominal mains input is unestablished. Closed-body depth is 18.5 inches, while the exact extended-tray depth is 20.7 inches, before additional working clearance. Optional high-capacity trays need appropriate stability arrangements.
