Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a wired team print color Legal documents automatically on both sides with PIN release, 650 included sheets and 12,000 monthly pages?
Yes with the compatible computer driver and matching ordinary paper setup. Legal is explicitly supported by both included sources and the duplex path; the recommended monthly range ends at 15,000.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I scan a multipage original because this printer has a color touchscreen?
No. The exact CS720de is print-only and has no scanner, copier, fax or document feeder.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its documented Mopria support provide basic mobile printing while the printer uses Ethernet?
Yes, with a compatible device and enabled Mopria service on a suitable shared local network. That basic route does not promise desktop PIN release, a specific paper setting or mobile duplex controls.
Explore this need in the finder →Color workgroup output with a clear print-only boundary
The Lexmark CS720de suits an earlier commercial office setup that needs color printing, automatic duplex and a substantial included paper load. US part 40C9100 combines USB computer attachment, gigabit Ethernet and a 4.3-inch color touchscreen. Its recommended monthly range is 1,500–15,000 pages.
The useful boundary is simple: this is a printer. The touchscreen does not add a scanner, document feeder, copier or fax. A team digitizing incoming documents should choose a separately documented multifunction configuration. For a team that already has capture equipment, the CS720de can keep that purchase decision focused on output.
Set up the two included paper sources around the actual job
The standard configuration includes a 550-sheet drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, totaling 650 ordinary sheets on Lexmark's 75-gsm or 20-pound basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported by both inputs and by automatic two-sided printing. These are ordinary-page sizes, separate from the banner and small-media possibilities.
Load the drawer without exceeding its fill mark, adjust the guides and match the control-panel size and type to the actual stock. For a shared ordinary-paper load, link sources only when their size and type settings agree. The multipurpose feeder does not sense size automatically, so changing its stock also requires a deliberate settings check.
Envelopes are a separate one-sided routine. In the multipurpose feeder, the guide specifies the flap side up against the right paper guide, with different leading-edge instructions for European envelopes. Avoid the prohibited clasps, windows, stamps and unsuitable adhesive constructions. That envelope stack replaces the feeder's ordinary paper rather than adding another simultaneous capacity.
The standard output bin holds 300 sheets, so a long run can need collection before the full ordinary input load is exhausted. Reaching the advertised 2,300-sheet maximum input requires optional drawers; it is not the included configuration.
Choose desktop release or basic mobile printing deliberately
USB Type-B is the direct computer-printing connection. Gigabit Ethernet provides the ordinary wired network route, while the separate Type-A ports serve supported local devices. Wireless and NFC require optional hardware. An Ethernet cable does not give the machine an internal wireless radio.
Compatible desktop Print and Hold software provides confidential jobs with local PIN release. The guide describes printer-memory storage, expiration settings and deletion after too many invalid PIN attempts. Set those policies before treating held jobs as a dependable daily routine. The optional hard disk is a separate installed-configuration question.
AirPrint and Mopria are documented for compatible mobile devices. A phone or tablet can use an appropriate shared local network while the printer remains wired. Test discovery and the enabled print service in that actual network. Basic mobile printing does not establish the desktop driver's PIN routine, envelope controls or exact duplex settings for every application.
Compare the correct speed and recurring-volume measures
Lexmark declares up to 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color. Its separate duplex figure is 32 black Letter sides per minute. These are different measures; the duplex figure does not establish a color-duplex rate or predict the time for a particular mixed job.
The 120,000-page maximum monthly duty rating also serves a different purpose from the recommended 15,000-page monthly ceiling. Plan the regular workload around the recommended range, paper replenishment and supply changes. A larger peak rating is not a reason to assign an oversized recurring workload.
Check regional supplies and the condition of an earlier unit
The original US package declares 3,000-page black and CMY toners. Listed replacements provide 3,000 or 7,000 pages in CMYK, plus 20,000-page black. Their ISO/IEC 19798 continuous black or composite-CMY basis is a declaration, not a prediction for every document. High-yield CMY listed for the CS725 does not extend to this exact CS720 model.
The separate imaging-unit estimate is 150,000 pages under a three-page Letter/A4 job and approximately 5% coverage basis. It is not another toner yield. Confirm supply region, imaging components, installed options and compatible software. This discontinued Class A commercial printer weighs 80 pounds; allow suitable support and operating access, and check the actual voltage label before putting it back into workgroup service.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 40 one-sided Letter print pages per minute in black or color; separately 32 black Letter duplex sides per minute. The duplex number does not establish a color-duplex rate.
Paper handling
Included 550-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet MP feeder total 650 ordinary sheets on the 75 gsm/20 lb basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both sources and automatic duplex; link matching size/type for one ordinary stock. MP size must be set manually. Envelopes use a separate one-sided instructed load. Output is 300 sheets; maximum 2,300 input requires optional drawers.
Scanning arrangement
This exact model is print-only. Its color touchscreen does not provide scanning, copying, fax or an ADF.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B computer printing and gigabit Ethernet. Front/rear Type-A ports have separate host-device roles. Wireless and NFC require optional hardware. AirPrint and Mopria are documented network printing routes for compatible devices; the printer can remain wired on the suitable shared local network.
Supplies and declared yields
US supplied toner declares 3,000 pages for each of black and CMY. Replacements declare 3,000 or 7,000 pages in CMYK and 20,000 in black, using ISO/IEC 19798 continuous black/composite CMY conditions. CS725 high-yield CMY is excluded. The separate 150,000-page imaging-unit estimate uses three average Letter/A4 pages per job at about 5% coverage, not the toner-yield basis; regional supplies must match.
Software and support
Compatible Windows/Mac Print and Hold supports confidential local PIN release, with memory/expiration and invalid-PIN deletion conditions. The optional hard disk is separate. Basic mobile plans do not borrow desktop PIN, media handling or duplex settings. Check the actual driver, firmware and device compatibility.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier Class A commercial equipment, with an 80 lb body and separate operating-clearance needs. Verify offered-unit voltage label, component condition, compatible supplies and software. USB/Ethernet cables were not included in the original box; nominal mains voltage remains unestablished.
