A useful fit for

A 500–5,000-page monthly workgroup that needs one-sided color output and feeder scanning of supported originals.

The main tradeoff

Neither automatic print duplex nor automatic two-sided scanning is included; Legal originals require the feeder rather than the glass.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I print in color, copy and scan one-sided Legal originals over USB at 4,000 monthly pages with PIN release?

Yes with earlier references enabled and compatible computer software. The simplex ADF supports Legal and USB computer scanning is explicit; compatible Print and Hold provides the protected-job routine.

Can the CX310n automatically print a Letter report on both sides?

No. The n configuration explicitly lacks automatic print duplex; its ADF and copy functions do not add that mechanism.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I scan an intact Legal original on the flatbed?

No. Legal is supported through the ADF, while the glass supports Letter/A4 and is shorter than a Legal page.

Three document functions with clear one-sided limits

The Lexmark CX310n brings color printing, copying and scanning together for a small workgroup. Its exact US part is 28C0500. A 50-sheet automatic document feeder is included, but it scans only one side of each original. Automatic two-sided printing is also absent on this n variant. Those limits should be considered separately before treating the machine as a general duplex office solution.

Lexmark marks the model discontinued. The original US record and the brochure's separate n/dn columns are useful for checking an offered unit, but do not establish present availability, service coverage or condition. Confirm the exact part, installed paper accessories and regional consumables rather than accepting a family description as the supplied package.

Choose the scanner path for the original

The simplex ADF accepts supported Letter, Legal and A4 originals. It is appropriate for a suitable stack of ordinary documents, with the guides adjusted to the load. The glass serves a different purpose: single sheets, book pages and items that should not travel through the feeder. Letter and A4 have positive glass support, while Legal does not. A general 8.5-by-14-inch scan-area headline should not be assigned to the shorter glass.

Both black and color simplex scanning are declared at up to 32 Letter sides per minute or 30 A4 sides per minute. Those scan figures are not printer output rates, and they do not prove double-sided capture. A two-sided original needs an appropriate manual workflow if this model is used; the feeder does not automatically turn it over.

Computer scanning is an actual connection feature

The exact US specification explicitly names a USB or network-connected computer as a scan destination. That establishes more than the mere presence of a USB socket. The scoped guide also describes a network scan profile, including selection of an output location and use of the assigned shortcut at the printer. Check that the intended current software, browser and computer environment can support the chosen routine.

USB Type-B connects to a computer, while gigabit Ethernet supports the shared-network arrangement. Wireless requires optional MarkNet hardware. AirPrint and Mopria are documented for suitable shared networking and compatible applications, so mobile printing should not be assumed to arise from a lone USB cable. The 2.4-inch color LCD uses conventional controls rather than a touchscreen.

Paper output and ordinary volume

One-sided black or color Letter printing is declared at up to 25 pages per minute. The manufacturer's recommended monthly range is 500–5,000 printed pages, distinct from the 60,000-page maximum duty figure. These are planning declarations, not hands-on results from this article. The number of short jobs and the document's processing demands can change a workgroup's actual completion time.

Included input is a 250-sheet main drawer plus one-sheet manual feeder, quoted as 250+1 at the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 support the main drawer; the plus-one path is not another normal stack. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided manual routine. The optional duo assembly adds a 550-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, taking maximum input to 900+1. It is not included in the base package.

Protected jobs and exact consumables

The CX310 guide documents compatible Print and Hold submission, a computer-set four-digit PIN and release through Held Jobs at the panel. Ordinary protected jobs use memory without an optional disk being required. Confirm the actual driver and application; a generic mobile print operation need not create an identical confidential job. This documented CX310 routine should not be inferred from another model's general security language.

Supplied US toner is declared at 750 pages for black and each color. Specific replacements include 80C1SK0 black at 2,500 pages and 80C1SC0, 80C1SM0 and 80C1SY0 colors at 2,000 each under ISO/IEC 19798. These are the CX supplies, not the similarly named CS310 range. Regional restrictions, Return Program terms and separate imaging/developer components remain relevant; yields alone do not establish current printing cost.

The exact functions cover print, scan and copy without fax hardware. The body is 17.48 inches wide, 21.99 deep and 18.44 high at 60.25 pounds. Allow scanner, paper and service access, and check the actual electrical label and cord before planning installation.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared maximum 25 one-sided Letter print pages/minute for black or color. Separate simplex scan declaration is 32 Letter sides/minute or 30 A4 sides/minute for black/color. Scan rate is not print throughput; this n variant has no automatic print duplex.

Paper handling

Base input is a 250-sheet drawer plus one-sheet manual feed, quoted as 250+1 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter/Legal/A4 support the main drawer; per-size ordinary stack is 250. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided manual routine. Optional paper hardware is not included. Optional 650-sheet duo assembly adds a 550-sheet drawer and 100-sheet MPF for maximum 900+1; not included.

Scanning arrangement

Included 50-sheet simplex ADF scans one side only; Letter/Legal/A4 support that route. The glass supports Letter/A4, not Legal; its limit is separately 8.5 x 11.69 inches. Color scanning and USB or network computer destinations are explicitly documented. No fax hardware is listed in the exhaustive exact US functions and original n/dn brochure.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B computer connection and gigabit Ethernet, with USB or network computer scanning explicitly named in the exact US specification. Wireless requires a separate MarkNet option. AirPrint/Mopria use a suitable shared network; a USB-only computer cable does not borrow mobile networking. No included Wi-Fi Direct arrangement is established.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied US CMYK toner each declared at 750 pages, distinct from the dn starter set. US replacements include 80C1SK0 black at 2,500 pages and 80C1SC0/80C1SM0/80C1SY0 cyan/magenta/yellow at 2,000 each. Declared continuous black/composite-color yields follow ISO/IEC 19798. Respect geographical compatibility and Return Program terms; imaging/developer components are separate. Do not substitute the similarly named CS310 cartridge range.

Software and support

The exact scoped guide documents compatible Print and Hold, a computer-set four-digit PIN and Held Jobs panel release. Ordinary protected jobs use memory; an optional disk is not required for that routine. Check current driver/application/firmware support, since a generic mobile print button need not submit an equivalent protected job.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier exact US reference. Verify actual part, regional supplies and current compatible software. Nominal mains input is not established; inspect the real electrical label and proper cord. Body measurements exclude scanner access, loading/service clearance and extended guides.
