A useful fit for

A modest print-volume routine needing color duplex output and supported one-sided feeder scanning over USB or Ethernet.

The main tradeoff

Generic marketing quotes a larger monthly allowance; the detailed recommendation governs, and the feeder does not scan both sides automatically.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I print color Legal duplex, copy and scan one-sided Legal originals over Ethernet with PIN release at 900 monthly pages?

Yes with earlier references enabled and compatible computer/protected-job software. Legal supports the print duplex and simplex ADF routes, within the detailed 1,000-page recommended maximum.

Can I plan 2,000 routine monthly pages because marketing mentions 5,000?

No for the selected recommended-volume requirement. The detailed exact US table gives 100–1,000, separate from its duty figure and conflicting marketing sentence.

Does its automatic duplex function scan both sides through the feeder?

No. Automatic duplex applies to printing; the included ADF explicitly scans one side of each original.

Start with its specific monthly recommendation

The Lexmark CX317dn is an earlier color MFP with printing, scanning and copying, but its exact US page needs careful reading before planning volume. For part 28CC550, the detailed recommended monthly range is 100–1,000 printed pages. A generic marketing paragraph instead says that it can easily print up to 5,000 pages monthly. That conflict should not become a larger routine allowance.

This reference uses the specific model table and keeps the separate 60,000-page maximum duty figure in its own role. Lexmark marks the printer discontinued. Confirm the actual regional unit, condition, software and supplied equipment before considering an offer; the original page does not establish current availability or a machine's remaining life.

Duplex output, simplex document capture

The dn configuration includes automatic print duplex. Letter, Legal and A4 have positive support in the main drawer and two-sided output path. Its 50-sheet ADF is different: it scans only one side of each original. Someone needing automatic capture of both document faces should not infer that feature from the printer's duplex label.

The feeder accepts supported Letter, Legal and A4 originals. The glass instead supports Letter and A4 and explicitly excludes Legal. Use the appropriate physical route for books, photos, single sheets or ordinary multipage stacks. A general 8.5-by-14-inch maximum scan-area headline belongs to the appropriate feeder route, rather than proving that the glass can hold an intact Legal original.

One-sided Letter printing is declared at up to 25 pages per minute for black or color, with automatic print duplex separately 12 Letter sides per minute. Simplex scanning is another mode at up to 32 Letter sides per minute or 30 A4 sides per minute. Those maker declarations are not interchangeable units or measurements performed for this article.

Computer scanning and protected jobs are real workflows

The exact US specification explicitly lists a USB or network-connected computer as a scanning destination. The original scoped guide also describes a network scan profile with an output location and assigned shortcut. Check the intended current computer, driver and application environment for the route you will actually use rather than assuming every older software workflow remains identical.

USB Type-B connects to a computer, while gigabit Ethernet supports wired sharing. The 2.4-inch color LCD and keypad provide controls without a touchscreen. Compatible Print and Hold submission uses a computer-set four-digit PIN and release through Held Jobs. Ordinary protected jobs use memory without requiring an optional disk, but the submission software still matters.

Wireless requires an optional MarkNet adapter. The US record names Mobile Print, while shared instructions place conditions on mobile-service availability. Exact AirPrint or Mopria support for the intended configuration remains unestablished here; confirm either protocol if it is essential. A named app and a USB computer connection do not by themselves establish all mobile-network routines.

One main paper stack before optional expansion

Base input is quoted as 250+1 sheets on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis: a 250-sheet drawer and one-sheet manual feed. The extra manual source is not a second ordinary stack. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided manual routine, with guides and size/type settings matched to the media.

The optional duo assembly adds a 550-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder for maximum input of 900+1. It is separate equipment rather than a standard promise. Verify installed accessories and driver settings when comparing expanded offers. Additional input also does not raise the detailed 1,000-page recommended monthly maximum.

Use the 71B supply record

Supplied US toner is declared at 1,400 black pages and 750 for each color. Specific replacements are 71B10K0 black at 3,000 pages and 71B10C0, 71B10M0 and 71B10Y0 colors at 2,300 each under ISO/IEC 19798. These identifiers and allowances differ from a CX310 record. Respect geographical compatibility and Return Program conditions, keeping imaging/developer components separate and avoiding a current printing-cost claim from yield alone.

The exact function set has no fax hardware. The body is 17.48 inches wide, 21.99 deep and 18.44 high at 60.25 pounds before operating access. Inspect the actual electrical label and cord, and allow room for scanner use, loading and extended guides.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 25 one-sided Letter print pages/minute black/color; automatic print duplex separately 12 Letter sides/minute for each. Simplex scanning separately 32 Letter/30 A4 sides per minute, black/color. These declared modes are not article measurements.

Paper handling

Base input is a 250-sheet drawer plus one-sheet manual feed, quoted as 250+1 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter/Legal/A4 support the main drawer; per-size ordinary stack is 250. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided manual routine. Optional paper hardware is not included. Included automatic print duplex supports Letter/Legal/A4. Optional 650-sheet duo assembly raises maximum input to 900+1; not included.

Scanning arrangement

Included 50-sheet simplex ADF scans one side only and supports Letter/Legal/A4 originals. Glass supports Letter/A4 but not Legal, with separate 8.5 x 11.69-inch limit. Exact US record explicitly names USB or network computer scanning and exhaustively lists print/scan/copy without fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B computer connection and gigabit Ethernet; exact US destinations positively establish computer scanning over USB or network. Wi-Fi requires an optional MarkNet adapter. The named Mobile Print app does not establish exact AirPrint/Mopria availability; confirm required protocols for the actual firmware/device.

Supplies and declared yields

US supplied black toner is declared at 1,400 pages and each color at 750. Replacements are 71B10K0 black 3,000 and 71B10C0/71B10M0/71B10Y0 colors 2,300 each. ISO/IEC 19798 declarations, regional restrictions and Return Program conditions apply. Imaging/developer components are separate; no CX310 80C cartridge or starter-set substitution.

Software and support

The exact scoped guide documents compatible Print and Hold, a computer-set four-digit PIN and Held Jobs panel release. Ordinary protected jobs use memory; an optional disk is not required for that routine. Check current driver/application/firmware support, since a generic mobile print button need not submit an equivalent protected job. The scoped guide covers CX317 and conditions mobile-service availability. Exact AirPrint/Mopria configuration support remains unestablished, rather than being declared unsupported.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier exact US reference. Verify actual part, regional supplies and current compatible software. Nominal mains input is not established; inspect the real electrical label and proper cord. Body measurements exclude scanner access, loading/service clearance and extended guides. Detailed recommended monthly volume is 100–1,000 pages; generic marketing says up to 5,000. Use the specific table for routine planning, keeping 60,000 maximum duty separate.
