The Lexmark CX331adwe is a US color multifunction reference for a small workgroup that needs printing, copying, one-sided document capture and analog fax in a relatively compact body. It includes Ethernet, Wi-Fi, automatic print duplex and a 2.8-inch touchscreen. The deciding scanning tradeoff is its 50-sheet simplex feeder: it automates a stack of one-sided originals without capturing both sides automatically.

The exact US manufacturer reference is part 40N9070. Check that complete identity, regional electrical label, working software and actual supplies when evaluating a machine or offer. The manufacturer page remains a product reference at the checked date; that is not a guarantee of current stock, a new warranty or the condition of an individual printer.

Separate the original from the printed result

Lexmark declares up to 26 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color and separately 13 Letter sides per minute for automatic print duplex. Those are manufacturer specifications, not measurements from testing for this article. Letter, Legal and A4 fit the documented automatic print-duplex path, which is useful for reports and contracts.

Scanning is a different routine. The exact scanner is simplex, with a declared maximum of 21 Letter sides per minute in either black or color. The original scanner-size table supports Letter, Legal and A4 through the feeder, but only Letter and A4 on the glass. A general 8.5-by-14-inch scan-area headline must not be turned into a Legal flatbed claim. Use the glass for a book page or delicate single original and the feeder for an appropriate one-sided stack.

The included interfaces support distinct tasks

Standard connections are USB Type-B, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The exact scan destinations include USB-connected or network-connected computers. AirPrint and Mopria are documented shared-network printing routes, while the front Type-A USB port provides a separate walk-up-media function. A directly connected computer does not acquire every network mobile route through its USB cable.

The original guide supports confidential computer jobs through a compatible Print and Hold driver and four-digit PIN release at the touchscreen. Check the actual driver and submission method rather than assuming every phone app offers the same protected workflow. Cloud connectors also have firmware and provider conditions; an old feature-announcement date is not a guarantee that every integration remains available today.

Analog fax is its own installation

The exact specification lists faxing and a 33.6-kbps modem, while the original model matrix positively identifies analog fax for CX331adwe. That distinguishes it from cloud-fax-only configurations in the compact family. It still needs the appropriate telephone connection and fax setup, separately from installing the computer print driver or joining office Wi-Fi.

A network connection does not mean the fax travels through Ethernet, and the documented analog function is not a guarantee for every VoIP adapter or telephone service. Confirm the intended line arrangement. If fax is not part of the job, weigh the scanner routine and paper capacity more heavily than the presence of the modem.

Paper, supplies and the useful comparison

Included and maximum input are both 250+1 on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis: a 250-sheet tray and one-sheet manual feed. Envelopes follow the instructed one-sided media routine. Lexmark recommends 600–2,500 printed pages monthly, distinct from its 50,000-page duty ceiling. Do not credit the base unit with a larger family drawer or use maximum duty as the ordinary monthly recommendation.

Supplied toner is declared at 750 black pages and 500 for each color under ISO/IEC 19798. Exact US high-yield examples 20N1HK0, 20N1HC0, 20N1HM0 and 20N1HY0 are each rated at 4,500 pages. Match geographic and Return Program conditions; a similarly shaped MC cartridge is not an assumed substitute. The body is 16.2 inches wide, 15.5 deep and 13.6 high at 42.7 pounds before working clearance. This configuration is coherent for modest color work and one-sided capture. Compare an explicitly duplex scanner for recurring two-sided originals, or a verified larger input arrangement when refilling is the main limitation.
