Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can USB support color Legal duplex printing, automatic two-sided Legal color scans, copy, analog fax and confidential release at 18,000 monthly pages?
Yes with compatible computer software. The 50-sheet reversing ADF accepts Legal; it is not single-pass. Analog fax separately requires active compatible phone service at LINE and configured fax identity. The 650-sheet ordinary input and 20,000-page recommended ceiling fit.
Explore this need in the finder →Does automatic duplex scanning here satisfy a single-pass Legal scanning requirement?
No. The exact scanner is a reversing duplex ADF. Its automatic two-sided capture does not establish a single-pass mechanism.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the documented Legal ADF size also guarantee a Legal-size flatbed scan?
No. Glass hardware and computer scanning are established, but its independent size range is not. The general maximum scan area and ADF table do not establish Legal on the glass.

The Lexmark CX725de combines color printing, copying, color computer scanning and analog fax for an earlier commercial workgroup. US part 40C9500 includes a 7-inch touchscreen, 650 ordinary input sheets, USB computer attachment and gigabit Ethernet. Its recommended monthly range is 2,000–20,000 pages.
The deciding scanner detail is its 50-sheet reversing duplex ADF. It automatically captures both sides by reversing originals, rather than using a single-pass scanner. That distinction matters for a team choosing equipment around repeated two-sided capture. If single-pass handling is essential, select a model with that mechanism explicitly documented.
Choose the feeder or glass around the originals
Letter, Legal and A4 are expressly supported in the ADF. Align the leading edges, load the originals faceup and adjust the guides. The feeder is useful for ordinary multipage documents, including automatically captured two-sided originals. Its 50-sheet capacity is a document-capture load, separate from the printer's input drawers.
Use the scanner glass for individual pages, book pages, small items, photos and thin or fragile material. Place the original facedown at the marked corner. Confirm the glass dimensions against your largest original: the documented general maximum and Legal-capable ADF do not independently establish a Legal-size glass route.
The exact specifications list USB-connected or network-connected computers as scan destinations. Use compatible scan software or the documented Scan Profiles route to the receiving computer. A configured network-folder shortcut needs the actual destination and access settings. Scanning to a flash drive is another local routine, not proof that a particular computer driver is installed.
Color capture is supported, but the resolution conditions differ: the specification lists 300 dpi color and separately 600 dpi color using TWAIN drivers. Do not assume every application or destination produces the same resolution. Highly compressed PDF and optional OCR also have memory, disk or software conditions beyond ordinary capture.
Prepare ordinary duplex paper without counting optional drawers
The included 550-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 650 ordinary sheets on the 75-gsm or 20-pound basis. Letter, Legal and A4 explicitly fit both inputs and automatic duplex printing. Match the loaded stock to the configured size and type, and use matching settings when linking ordinary sources.
The multipurpose feeder does not automatically sense size. Envelopes need their own supported one-sided load and correct orientation; they do not share an automatic-duplex promise. The 300-sheet output bin can need collection during a longer run. Expanding input to 2,300 sheets requires optional drawers rather than another included source.
Separate confidential computer printing, mobile output and fax
USB Type-B and gigabit Ethernet provide the normal computer paths. Compatible Windows Print and Hold or Macintosh Job Routing can assign a username and four-digit PIN, then release the confidential job at the machine. Configure memory-expiration and invalid-PIN policies. The optional hard disk should not be mistaken for standard equipment.
AirPrint and Mopria provide documented basic mobile printing with compatible devices on a suitable shared network. The printer can remain connected by Ethernet; Wi-Fi hardware is optional. Check discovery and application controls in that setup. Mobile printing alone does not establish the desktop driver's PIN release, computer scanning or exact media and duplex options.
Ordinary analog fax separately needs an active compatible analog phone line connected to LINE, and configured Fax Name and Number. A fax-server SMTP setup or cloud connector has different service and configuration conditions. Neither Ethernet nor a generic application listing supplies the analog telephone connection.
Match recurring work to supplies and maintenance
Lexmark declares 50 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color, and separately 40 black Letter duplex sides per minute. The scanner's Letter figures are separately 60 simplex or 28 duplex sides per minute. The 150,000-page maximum monthly duty rating does not replace the recommended 20,000-page monthly ceiling.
The original US toner set declares 7,000 pages per color. Replacements include 3,000- and 7,000-page CMYK, 25,000-page black and 16,000-page CMY under ISO/IEC 19798 continuous black or composite-color conditions. The separate 150,000-page imaging estimate uses three average Letter/A4 pages per job at approximately 5% coverage. Check regional cartridges, imaging parts, waste bottle, transfer module and the installed voltage-specific fuser. This discontinued 99-pound Class A machine also needs suitable support, operating clearance and verified electrical labeling.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 50 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 40 black Letter duplex sides per minute. Black/color scanner rates are separately 56/60 A4/Letter simplex and 26/28 A4/Letter duplex sides per minute; they are not print rates.
Paper handling
Included 550-sheet tray and 100-sheet MP feeder total 650 ordinary sheets at 75 gsm/20 lb. Letter, Legal and A4 explicitly fit both inputs and automatic duplex. Link matching size/type; MP has no automatic size sensing. The guide calls ordinary paper 75–90.3 gsm. Envelopes use a separate one-sided load; output 300 and optional maximum 2,300 input are distinct.
Scanning arrangement
The 50-sheet RADF automatically reverses originals for two-sided capture; it is not single-pass. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively supported in the ADF. Glass is documented for single pages, books and fragile/small items, but its independent size range is unestablished; the general 8.5×14-inch maximum is not assigned to glass. Color scanning is positive, with 600 dpi color specifically conditional on TWAIN versus the separate 300 dpi color listing.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B and gigabit Ethernet support compatible computer printing; exact scan destinations explicitly include USB or network-connected computers. Type-A host ports and flash capture have separate roles. Wi-Fi is optional. AirPrint/Mopria basic shared-network printing is separated from computer scan/PIN/media routines.
Supplies and declared yields
US supplied toner declares 7,000 pages each in black/CMY. Replacements declare 3,000/7,000 in CMYK, 25,000 black and 16,000 CMY under ISO/IEC 19798 continuous black/composite CMY conditions. Regional cartridges must match. Separate imaging-unit estimate 150,000 pages uses 3 average Letter/A4 pages/job at about 5% coverage. Black/CMY imaging parts, 74C0W00 waste bottle, 40X9929 transfer module and voltage/type-specific fuser are separate maintenance items.
Software and support
Use compatible scan software/profile for the receiving computer; network folder capture separately needs its configured destination and access. Windows Print and Hold/Mac Job Routing supports a four-digit confidential PIN and local release, with printer-memory expiry/deletion conditions. Optional disk-dependent highly compressed PDF/OCR features are not included in the ordinary plan.
Electrical edition and setup
Analog fax requires active compatible analog phone service connected to LINE and configured Fax Name/Number. SMTP fax-server/cloud arrangements have separate service/settings and are not the base analog path. Earlier Class A commercial equipment; 99 lb body needs suitable support and operating clearance. Verify actual voltage label, condition and compatible software; nominal mains input is unknown.
