Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can USB handle 250 ordinary Legal sheets and occasional envelopes?
Yes with compatible printing software. Legal fits the included 250-sheet drawer; suitable envelopes use the separate one-at-a-time manual feeder and their own size/type settings.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the E240 provide automatic two-sided Letter printing?
No. The guide describes alternating pages, waiting for the paper prompt and reloading Tray 1. This is manual duplex and is not available on Macintosh in that guide.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its 10,000-page maximum meet a selected 1,000-page recommended monthly workload?
No supported recommendation is established. The maximum monthly figure is a different measure and cannot supply a missing recommended range.
Explore this need in the finder →A local printer with room for a normal paper stack
The Lexmark E240 combines a supplied 250-sheet drawer with USB and parallel computer interfaces. US part 28S0200 is a monochrome laser printer for files already on a computer: correspondence, forms and other one-sided black-and-white documents. Lexmark declares up to 27 Letter pages per minute, with a separate 26-ppm A4 figure.
The deciding limitations are the local connection and manual handling of back sides. This exact E240 does not include Ethernet or automatic duplex. It also has no scanner, copier or fax. A desktop that mainly prints ordinary pages can use its documented paper paths, but shared network work and unattended two-sided reports call for different features.
Start with the actual computer connection
The original model specification lists USB, parallel and PCL 5e/6. The E240n is a different variant with Ethernet and PostScript 3. Do not treat an E240n driver or a family description as proof that the local E240 supplies those functions.
Install compatible printing software for the actual operating system, select the correct port and try representative application files before depending on an earlier printer. Historical Windows and Mac instructions explain the intended setup but do not establish support for a current computer. AirPrint, Mopria and confidential-job PIN release are not established here.
Five lights and two buttons communicate status and prompts. Keep the light-sequence guide available, particularly for paper loading, toner and photoconductor conditions. The compatible Local Printer Setup Utility supplies additional configuration choices; a light panel does not provide the same on-printer guidance as a text display.
Separate the normal drawer from special-media feeding
The original media table supports 250 ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 sheets in the supplied drawer at its 20-pound paper basis. Adjust the guides, load a consistent size and type, and match the software settings to the actual stack. Legal paper requires extending the tray, so allow space beyond the closed-body depth.
The manual feeder accepts one item at a time. It is useful for a different sheet or a suitable envelope without replacing the ordinary drawer load. Select the manual source and correct media settings, send the job and feed at the prompt. Use the instructed output path and laser-compatible envelope stock; envelope handling does not establish envelope duplex.
A separately purchased 550-sheet drawer raises maximum input to 800 sheets. That maximum does not describe the supplied configuration. The 150-sheet output bin is another distinct limit, so a larger input arrangement can still need output collection during a run.
Two-sided output requires a second pass
The documented routine prints alternate pages first. When the Load Paper and Continue signals appear, reload the stack with the printed side up and the specified top-edge orientation. Tray 1 must supply the second pass even if an optional drawer supplied the first. Long-edge and short-edge binding choices affect how the pages should turn.
The guide explicitly says manual duplex is unavailable on Macintosh. For any intended environment, confirm that its software provides the required routine and check a short document before a larger bundle. A two-sided driver option does not turn this printer into an automatic-duplex model; someone must remain available to handle the paper.
Check both supply components and the workload measure
The exact US page declares a 1,500-page supplied toner cartridge and 2,500-page replacement toner under ISO/IEC 19752. The guide identifies US/Canada 24035SA regular and 24015SA Return Program cartridges. Check the model, supply region and program conditions rather than assuming similar E-series cartridges are interchangeable.
The separate 12A8302 photoconductor kit has a 30,000-page declaration at approximately 5% coverage, a different measurement context from the toner declaration. Inspect both components. The guide also explains that the Toner Low indication does not appear with the 1,500-page starter cartridge.
The 10,000-page monthly maximum is not a recommended recurring workload; no separate recommended range is established. Lexmark marks this 22-pound model discontinued. Check its electrical label, proper cord, software, supplies and physical condition. Compare a documented network or automatic-duplex printer when either feature would remove repeated work from the daily routine.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 27 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 26 A4. Two-sided jobs require the documented manual reload process; these figures do not describe automatic duplex.
Paper handling
Supplied drawer holds 250 ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 sheets at the 20 lb paper basis. A separate manual feeder takes one suitable item, including an envelope. Maximum 800 sheets requires the optional 550-sheet drawer.
Scanning arrangement
Monochrome print-only hardware has no scanner glass, document feeder, copying or fax. The manual feeder handles print media rather than originals.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B and parallel computer ports with PCL 5e/6. Ethernet and PostScript 3 belong to the E240n variant; external print servers are optional equipment.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact US supplied toner declares 1,500 pages, replacement toner 2,500 under ISO/IEC 19752. The guide identifies US/Canada 24035SA regular and 24015SA Return Program toner. The separate 12A8302 photoconductor declares 30,000 pages at approximately 5% coverage.
Software and support
Five lights and two buttons communicate status. Compatible printing software and the Local Printer Setup Utility provide job/settings control. The documented manual-duplex routine is unavailable on Macintosh. Current OS, AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-release support are unestablished.
Electrical edition and setup
Check the actual electrical label, proper cord and offered condition; nominal mains input is unestablished. Allow room for Legal tray extension, rear exit and supply access. The 10,000-page maximum does not establish a recommended monthly range.
