Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Ethernet supply Legal printing at a 30-ppm Letter declaration with 250 sheets included and a 16-inch body-width limit?
Yes with compatible software. Legal drawer capacity is 250 sheets, the separate one-sided Letter rate is 30 ppm, and the unit-body width is 15.6 inches; allow extra operating clearance.
Explore this need in the finder →Will its network interface make Letter reports automatically two-sided?
No. Automatic print duplex is unavailable. The Windows routine prints one pass and asks for manual reloading; Ethernet does not add a duplex mechanism.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the documented monthly figures establish a 1,500-page recommended workload?
No separate recommended monthly range is established. The 15,000-page maximum monthly volume is not a recommendation for recurring use.

The Lexmark E342n is a monochrome laser printer with included 10/100 Ethernet, USB Type-B and parallel interfaces. US part 28S0600 provides a 250-sheet drawer and a two-line text display. It suits a small wired group whose normal jobs are one-sided black-and-white documents and whose computers have compatible printer software.
The network connection is the main distinction from the local E340, but it does not add automatic duplex. The E342n has no integrated mechanism to turn printed sheets, and it has no scanner, copier or fax. Choosing it for those functions would create extra equipment or manual work that should be considered before the purchase.
Make the network information useful
The original guide distinguishes direct network printing from sharing a locally connected printer through another computer. With the included Ethernet interface, the E342n can use the direct arrangement instead of depending on a USB host computer to remain available. Each intended computer still needs a suitable printing setup.
Print the menu-settings and network pages to inspect the offered printer's configuration. The network page identifies the TCP/IP settings; on a network using DHCP, the printer can receive an address automatically. Confirm the address and connection before diagnosing a particular application's output. The documented resident Web page provides status and configuration information on network models.
These are historical operating instructions, not a blanket promise for a current network or operating system. Check the intended driver and representative files. An optional wireless server is not a built-in radio, and the presence of IPP or AppleTalk does not establish AirPrint or Mopria. A mobile-first office needs an explicitly documented mobile workflow.
Manual two-sided output is a different routine
The exact specification marks automatic print duplex unavailable. The guide instead provides a Windows manual-duplex procedure: print alternate pages, wait for the reload prompt, return the stack in the stated orientation and resume. The second pass must use Tray 1 even if an optional drawer supplied the first pass.
That arrangement can serve an occasional two-sided job when someone is willing to handle the stack. It is not unattended duplex, and the guide states that its manual-duplex procedure is unavailable on Macintosh. Check a small example for page order and binding orientation before using a larger bundle. Frequent two-sided reports call for a printer with an actual automatic-duplex mechanism.
Load long paper and envelopes deliberately
The supplied 250-sheet drawer accepts ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 at the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Extend the tray for Legal or Folio, attach the dust cover and allow space at the rear. Set the physical guides and computer paper settings for the actual load rather than leaving a prior user's defaults unchanged.
The one-sheet manual feeder provides a separate path for a different sheet or suitable envelope. Choose the manual source and correct size and type, send the job, then load the item when prompted. Let the mechanism engage without forcing the sheet. Envelopes use the instructed one-sided routine and appropriate laser-compatible stock.
A rear exit offers a straighter path for certain specialty media, with extra space needed behind the machine. The optional 550-sheet drawer is required to reach the 800-sheet input maximum. The top output bin holds up to 150 ordinary sheets; output capacity should not be counted as additional input.
Keep workload and supply declarations separate
Lexmark declares up to 30 one-sided Letter pages per minute, compared with 28 on A4. Its maximum monthly volume is 15,000 pages. The reviewed exact material does not establish a recommended monthly range, so that maximum cannot qualify a selected recurring-workload requirement. These figures also do not measure the condition of an offered earlier unit.
The original US configuration ships with a declared 2,500-page toner cartridge, rather than the E340's shorter starter declaration. US and Canadian 24015SA or 24035SA replacements declare 2,500 pages; 34015HA or 34035HA high-yield replacements declare 6,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate 12A8302 photoconductor uses a 30,000-page declaration at about 5% coverage.
Match cartridge region and Return Program terms, inspect both supply components and check the electrical label and appropriate cord. Lexmark marks this 22-pound printer discontinued. Allow operating clearance beyond its closed dimensions, and compare a documented automatic-duplex or multifunction model when those functions would remove substantial manual work.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maker maximum 30 one-sided Letter pages/minute versus 28 A4. Automatic print duplex is unavailable. The guide’s Windows manual-duplex routine requires reloading the first-pass output and is not available on Macintosh.
Paper handling
Supplied 250-sheet drawer at 20 lb/75 gsm; Letter, Legal and A4 each fit the ordinary 250-sheet stack. Separate manual slot feeds one item at a time. Maximum 800 requires an optional 550-sheet drawer. Suitable envelopes are one-sided manual-feed jobs.
Scanning arrangement
Print-only monochrome laser: no glass, document feeder, copying or fax hardware. The text panel displays settings and status rather than providing document capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B, parallel and 10/100 Ethernet. Network setup pages and TCP/IP software establish the wired computer arrangement. External wireless or gigabit servers are optional; historical IPP or AppleTalk naming does not establish modern mobile protocols.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact US supplied toner declares 2,500 pages. US/Canada 24015SA/24035SA replacement toner declares 2,500; 34015HA/34035HA declares 6,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate 12A8302 photoconductor declares 30,000 at about 5% coverage. Check region and Return Program conditions.
Software and support
Compatible computer printing software is required. The documented manual-duplex workflow uses Windows driver settings and Tray 1 for the second pass. Current OS, AirPrint/Mopria and confidential-job PIN-release support remain unestablished.
Electrical edition and setup
Check actual electrical label, correct cord and offered condition; nominal mains input is unestablished. Allow room for extended Legal drawer, rear output and service access.
