The Lexmark E462dtn is an earlier monochrome printer worth distinguishing by its included paper equipment. The US package has two 250-sheet inputs plus a 50-sheet multipurpose feeder, giving 550 sheets as standard. That can suit a wired office that wants two ordinary-paper stacks available without separately sourcing a drawer. The tradeoff is a taller body, and the exact specification also lists 550 sheets as the maximum.

Lexmark marks US part 34S0800 discontinued. This is a reference for the documented configuration, not a claim about present availability or the condition of a particular offer. Check that an actual machine includes the second 250-sheet drawer. A related model name or a photograph of a bare printer is insufficient to establish this package.

Paper choices need the right tray and settings

The original paper table positively supports Letter, Legal and A4 in both 250-sheet inputs, the multipurpose source and the automatic duplex path. The total capacity uses the maker's 20-pound or 75-gsm ordinary-paper basis. The loading instructions require the guides to fit the selected size; longer paper extends the tray arrangement. Set the paper size and type correctly when changing a stack.

Two drawers can be useful for different office media, but they do not create a single 500-sheet stack or guarantee that two different sizes can satisfy the same job interchangeably. Envelopes use the instructed multipurpose path and are one-sided. The guide gives separate media restrictions for the duplex path. The optional 550-sheet drawer and 850-sheet maximum published for E460dn/dw should not be imported into this model's included configuration or expansion limit.

Wired computer printing and a meaningful PIN routine

The standard ports are 10/100 Ethernet, USB Type-B and IEEE 1284 parallel. Use Ethernet for supported shared-network computer printing or USB for a direct workstation connection. A statement that Ethernet also works with a 1000Base-T network is a compatibility statement, not a gigabit-port specification. Wireless print-server hardware appears as an option, rather than an included radio. AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are not established in the read sources.

The four-line grayscale panel and keypad support the original guide's Confidential Print routine. With a compatible computer driver, assign a user name and a four-digit PIN. The job waits in printer memory until it is selected and released at the keypad. Confidential jobs are removed after printing, and memory demand can delete held jobs. This is a defined driver-and-panel workflow, not a promise that every application can send protected work or that optional storage is included.

Judge the workload by the recommendation

Lexmark recommends 1,500–10,000 printed pages per month. The separate 80,000-page maximum duty cycle is a ceiling rather than the recommended sustained monthly routine. The extra input can reduce refilling compared with a 300-sheet base model, but it does not raise the recommended monthly maximum by itself.

The declared maximum print rate is 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute; automatic duplex has a distinct 18 Letter sides-per-minute rating. These are manufacturer specifications rather than results from testing for this article. The output is monochrome and the hardware is explicitly print-only. There is no scanner, copier, fax or document feeder, so automatic print duplex cannot satisfy two-sided document-capture requirements.

Use the exact supplies and complete body dimensions

The supplied Return Program toner is declared at 7,000 ISO/IEC 19752 pages. The exact US list includes E462U11A at 18,000 pages, E360H11A at 9,000 and E260A11A at 3,500. It also lists regular E462U21G at 18,000. The E260X22G photoconductor is separate, with an up-to-30,000-page declaration. Match the geographic region and cartridge-program conditions without assuming that an E460-branded highest-yield cartridge is the correct substitute or deriving today's cost from yield alone.

The complete body is 15.98 inches wide, 14.55 deep and 13.7 high at 36.5 pounds. Allow more space for extended trays and access, and verify the actual electrical label and cord. This configuration is a sensible comparison when two included trays and wired mono printing solve the office routine. Choose explicitly wireless hardware for Wi-Fi, or a documented multifunction device when scanning is part of the job.
