Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Wi-Fi combine analog fax, Legal feeder scans and Legal duplex printing with a 250-sheet load?
Yes for one-sided originals, compatible network scanning and a suitable separate phone line. The 250-sheet main drawer supports Legal; the extra manual slot is not another stack.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Ethernet support AirPrint, Mopria and a compatible PIN-release computer workflow?
Yes on suitable shared networking with the documented software controls and local release. The original scoped guide includes non-touch panel instructions.
Explore this need in the finder →Can this feeder automatically scan both faces of my originals?
No. The exact specification identifies one-sided feeding; print duplex and the guide’s broad two-sided-original wording do not establish automatic scan duplex.

The Lexmark MB2236adw combines monochrome printing, copying, color scanning and analog fax in a 22-pound body. US part 18M0400 includes Wi-Fi, 10/100 Ethernet and USB Type-B, so ordinary computer access does not depend on an optional radio. Its two-line LCD and buttons suit a conventional document routine rather than a touchscreen-led workflow.
The deciding scanner limitation is its one-sided 50-sheet feeder. Automatic print duplex saves paper on output, but does not capture both faces of an original automatically. Lexmark recommends 250–2,500 printed pages per month, separate from the much larger 30,000-page maximum duty figure. It is marked discontinued, making condition, compatible software and supplies central checks for any offered unit.
Handle originals according to the scanning surface
Letter, Legal and A4 fit the feeder. Load suitable sheets faceup and adjust the guides. The glass supports Letter and A4, while the original size table explicitly marks Legal unsupported there. Use the glass for books, photos, small items and fragile material that should not travel through rollers.
A one-sided Legal contract therefore has a documented feeder route. A delicate full-length Legal original needs a different flatbed configuration. A stack of two-sided originals also deserves a true automatic duplex scanner if manual page handling is undesirable. Broad common-guide language about two-sided documents does not override this exact model's simplex scanner specification.
Computer scanning is explicitly supported over USB or the network. The guide describes ScanBack profiles, Windows Fax and Scan, and Mac Image Capture workflows. Verify the required scanner software and destination setup on the intended system; a working print driver alone is not a complete scan setup.
Network printing, PIN jobs and a separate telephone line
AirPrint is explicitly supported in the US Apple entry, and the scoped user guide supplies Mopria printing instructions. Use appropriate shared networking and compatible devices. The guide also describes Wi-Fi Direct computer attachment; that peer print path should not be assumed to provide every scanning, mobile or protected-job control available through ordinary networking.
Confidential printing has actual computer instructions. Compatible Windows software uses Print and Hold; Mac software can use AirPrint PIN Printing or the driver option. Submit a four-digit PIN and release the job locally. The guide explicitly includes non-touch controls, but verify the complete routine on the intended firmware and software.
The analog fax modem needs station details and an appropriate separate phone-line or adapter arrangement. Wi-Fi and Ethernet provide computer networking rather than the ordinary telephone fax path. The Direct USB No entry refers to another facility; it does not remove the included Type-B computer port. This adw package does not acquire the adwe model's touchscreen or front flash port.
A 250-sheet stack and one manual sheet
The main drawer holds 250 sheets and the manual feeder accepts one sheet, producing the maker's 251-sheet total on a 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. This is not a 251-sheet stack or a second multipurpose tray. The documented ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 load is 250 sheets in the main drawer.
All three sizes support automatic print duplex. Set the physical duplex unit to A4 for A4 stock, and to Letter for Letter or Legal. Match the paper size and type settings to the load. Suitable envelopes use the manual slot one at a time, in a separate one-sided routine. There is no additional drawer in the stated maximum configuration.
The declared print rate is up to 36 one-sided Letter pages per minute, with duplex separately 18 Letter sides per minute. Letter scanning is separately up to 25 black or 8 color sides per minute. These are manufacturer modes, not measured application results.
Check the exact supplies and installation
The original US toner declares 700 pages. Replacements include B221000 at 1,200, B221H00 at 3,000 and B221X00 or B220XA0 at 6,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate B220Z00 imaging unit declares 12,000 on a different job and coverage basis. Match regional and Return Program terms. Inspect the electrical label and leave loading, scanner-cover and service room around the compact body.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Manufacturer maximum 36 one-sided Letter pages/minute; automatic print duplex separately 18 Letter sides/minute. Letter simplex scanning separately 25 black/8 color sides/minute; not measured application results.
Paper handling
250-sheet main drawer plus single-sheet manual feed: maker total/max 251 at 20 lb/75 gsm, not a 251-sheet stack. Per-size ordinary Letter/Legal/A4 main load is 250. All three support automatic print duplex; set duplex unit to A4 for A4, Letter for Letter/Legal. Suitable envelopes use manual feed one at a time, one-sided.
Scanning arrangement
Exact US specification: 50-sheet simplex-only feeder. Letter/Legal/A4 feeder and Letter/A4 glass are positively mapped in original 20–21; Legal glass is unsupported. Generic two-sided-original wording in the common guide does not supply an automatic duplex scanner.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Network computer scanning is explicit. Configure Wi-Fi with Ethernet disconnected and Active Adapter Auto. Guide 62–64 documents Wi-Fi Direct computer printing; peer plan does not borrow computer scanning, named mobile protocols or protected-job controls.
Supplies and declared yields
US supplied Return Program toner 700 pages. Replacements B221000 1,200; B221H00 3,000; B221X00/B220XA0 6,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate B220Z00 imaging unit 12,000 has its own job/coverage basis. Match regional cartridge and Return Program terms.
Software and support
Original 72–73 documents compatible Windows Print and Hold and Mac AirPrint PIN Printing, with four-digit PIN and local release; non-touch controls are explicitly included. Confirm the intended submission/release software. Exact US AirPrint and unqualified scoped guide 69 Mopria support suitable shared networking.
Electrical edition and setup
Check the actual electrical label and compatible current print/scan software. Body dimensions exclude feeder, scanner-cover, cable and service access.
