Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Wi-Fi combine fax, Legal feeder scanning and 350-sheet Legal duplex printing for 5,000 monthly pages?
Yes for one-sided originals, compatible network scanning and a suitable separate phone line. The included 250-sheet drawer and 100-sheet feeder support ordinary Legal paper.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Ethernet provide color A4 glass scans and monochrome A4 duplex output?
Yes. The original size table supports A4 on the glass and both ordinary print inputs, and the exact product lists network computer scanning.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require automatic two-sided scanning of Legal originals?
No. Legal fits the feeder, but the exact model identifies that feeder as simplex. Automatic print duplex does not change its scanning method.

The Lexmark MB2338adw supplies Wi-Fi, gigabit Ethernet and USB Type-B in a monochrome MFP with copying, color scanning and analog fax. US part 36SC640 includes 350 sheets of combined input and a 2.4-inch color LCD with buttons. It suits a small team that wants standard wireless access and conventional local controls.
Its scanner and supplies define the tradeoffs. The 50-sheet feeder captures one side of an original at a time, and the exact replacement toner list stops at 3,000 pages. Neither a similar MX321 body nor shared documentation gives it that model's higher-yield 56F cartridges. Lexmark marks the printer discontinued, so evaluate actual condition, compatible software and regional supplies.
One-sided batches and a smaller flatbed
Letter, Legal and A4 originals fit the feeder. Load appropriate pages faceup, align their leading edges and adjust the guides. Letter and A4 also fit the glass, while Legal is explicitly unsupported there in the original routed size table. Use the glass for photos, books, small items and fragile sheets.
A one-sided Legal document therefore has an established route, but a delicate full-length Legal original calls for a different flatbed. For recurring two-sided batches, compare an automatic duplex scanner. Broad references to two-sided documents in a common guide do not override this exact model's simplex feeder.
Color scanning is separate from color printing. The declared Letter scan modes reach 45 black or 22 color sides per minute, while printed pages and copies remain monochrome. Those scan figures are manufacturer modes rather than measured complete processing times for a particular file or destination.
Set up the selected computer connection
The exact US source lists scanning to USB- or network-connected computers. The original guide covers ScanBack profiles, Windows Fax and Scan, and Mac Image Capture. Verify the required scanner software, network destination and permissions on the intended current system. A working print queue alone is not a complete scan setup.
Ordinary Wi-Fi is positively included. Shared-network AirPrint and Mopria routines are documented in the scoped original guide for compatible devices. Its separate Wi-Fi Direct chapter is qualified to some models, so that peer mode should not be assumed merely from the presence of a radio. The ordinary USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi arrangements are the established paths here.
The LCD is not a touchscreen. The separate Direct USB No entry does not cancel Type-B computer attachment; it concerns a different facility from a workstation cable. If protected PIN output is essential, confirm a complete supported submission and local-release workflow on the intended software rather than relying on confidential settings mentioned in a menu.
Paper load, printing and telephone fax
The 250-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet multipurpose feeder totals 350 sheets on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both inputs and automatic print duplex. Match the guides, size and type to the load. Appropriate envelopes use a separate one-sided feeder routine. A further drawer is needed to reach the 900-sheet maximum.
Printing is declared at up to 38 one-sided Letter pages per minute, with duplex separately 19 Letter sides per minute. These are not measured results for a mixed office file. The recommended monthly range is 500–6,000 pages, distinct from the 50,000-page maximum duty cycle.
The analog fax modem needs station information and a suitable separate telephone-line or adapter arrangement. Wi-Fi and Ethernet handle computer networking rather than the ordinary telephone fax transport. Confirm any shared-line or voice-service setup for the actual installation.
Exact toner and room around the body
The original US toner declares 2,000 pages. Exact replacements B231000 and B2300A0 declare 3,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Do not substitute a larger cartridge from a similar model without verified compatibility. The separate 60,000-page imaging unit has another job and coverage basis. Match regional and Return Program terms.
The exact US body is listed at 18.8 inches high, 15.7 wide and 16.9 deep, weighing 42.8 pounds. Leave loading, scanner-cover and service access, inspect the electrical label and verify usable software. An automatic duplex-scanning model is a more suitable comparison when capturing both faces is central to the job.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Manufacturer maximum 38 one-sided Letter pages/minute; automatic print duplex separately 19 Letter sides/minute. Letter simplex scans separately 45 black/22 color sides/minute; not measured end-to-end results.
Paper handling
Included 250-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet MPF: 350 sheets at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter/Legal/A4 fit both inputs and ordinary-paper automatic duplex. Maximum 900 requires an optional drawer. Suitable envelopes use the instructed MPF simplex routine.
Scanning arrangement
Exact US specification: 50-sheet simplex ADF, not automatic duplex. Original 21–22 supports Letter/Legal/A4 through feeder and Letter/A4 on glass; Legal glass is marked unsupported. USB/network computer scan destinations and ScanBack/Windows/Mac workflows are documented.
Computer and mobile connections
Included gigabit Ethernet, USB Type-B and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. USB/network computer scanning is explicit. Scoped AirPrint/Mopria instructions use suitable shared networking. Wi-Fi Direct chapter 123 says only some models; this exact peer route remains unestablished. Direct USB No does not remove Type-B attachment.
Supplies and declared yields
US starter Return Program toner 2,000 pages. Exact replacements B231000/B2300A0 3,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate 56F0Z00/56F0ZA0 imaging unit 60,000 has a different job/coverage basis. Do not borrow MX321 56F15k or MB2442 B246k supplies.
Software and support
Original 25–26 gives unqualified scoped Mopria and AirPrint shared-network routines. Confirm current print/scan software. Confidential menu entries do not establish a complete supported PIN submission/release routine here; that requirement remains unknown.
Electrical edition and setup
Analog fax needs station details and a suitable separate phone-line/adapter arrangement, not Ethernet transport. Nominal mains input remains unestablished; inspect the actual electrical label and allow scanner-cover, loading and service room.
