A useful fit for

A business workgroup printing within the recommended 1,500–10,000 monthly pages and scanning two-sided Letter/A4 stacks in one pass.

The main tradeoff

The included print tray is only 250 sheets, while larger drawers, OCR and hard-disk features are extra equipment.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I print color Legal reports on both sides over Ethernet, scan both sides of A4 originals in one pass and use analog fax at 9,000 monthly pages?

Yes, with earlier references enabled, compatible software and a separate telephone fax setup. The single-pass A4 scanner, Legal print duplex and 10,000-page recommended maximum fit the same network arrangement.

Can I require a flatbed that accepts an entire Legal original?

No. The documented glass maximum is 8.5 by 11.7 inches. Legal printing does not establish a Legal-size flatbed.

Does the base Letter configuration include at least 500 input sheets?

No. Standard input is 250 plus one-sheet manual feed; the larger duo tray and 550-sheet drawer are optional.

Single-pass capture for a business document routine

The Lexmark MC2640adwe is an earlier color multifunction reference for a business workgroup that regularly captures two-sided paperwork. Its distinctive hardware is a 100-sheet single-pass duplex document feeder, alongside automatic print duplex, copying, analog fax and included Wi-Fi/Ethernet. The practical tradeoff is the print input: the base machine has a 250-sheet tray, while the larger paper system and some scanning conveniences require optional equipment.

Lexmark marks exact US part 42CC580 discontinued and identifies it as FCC Class A equipment for non-residential or non-domestic environments. Those are relevant scope conditions when comparing an installed unit or an offer. This reference does not establish current stock, a new warranty or the condition of a specific machine. Verify the suffix, regional label, accessories and working software.

The scan speed describes sides, not printed pages

The original brochure and exact US page explicitly identify a single-pass duplex feeder. For Letter, the maker declares up to 100 black or 64 color sides per minute in duplex, compared with 50 black or 32 color sides per minute in simplex. The larger duplex count represents both scanned sides; it is not a 100-page-per-minute printing claim. These are specifications from Lexmark, not measured results from testing for this article.

Letter and A4 single-pass routes are positively documented. The flatbed maximum is 8.5 by 11.7 inches, and Legal print support does not establish Legal glass scanning. Use the feeder for an appropriate stack and the glass for a book page, delicate sheet or individual item. A searchable-PDF workflow is separate: the source lists optional OCR and hard-disk conditions, which should not be treated as standard merely because ordinary PDF scanning is supported.

Printing and paper handling have their own boundaries

Lexmark declares up to 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color and separately 20 Letter sides per minute in automatic duplex. The original paper table supports Letter, Legal and A4 through the ordinary main input and print-duplex path. The feeder's scan rating does not make those two-sided printing jobs run at the scanning rate.

Standard input is 250 sheets plus a one-sheet manual feed on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. The original options diagram shows a 650-sheet duo tray, or that duo above an additional 550-sheet tray, for the larger supported arrangement. The maximum is 1450+1, but neither extra drawer is included. Envelopes follow their instructed one-sided media routine. Lexmark recommends 1,500–10,000 printed pages monthly; its separate 100,000-page duty ceiling is not the everyday recommended target.

Connections and confidential work need the correct software

Included interfaces are USB Type-B, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The exact scan destinations include either a USB-connected or network-connected computer. AirPrint and Mopria are documented network printing routes, while the front and rear Type-A USB ports serve separate walk-up or accessory purposes. Analog fax needs its own telephone configuration rather than being described as fax through Ethernet.

The 4.3-inch e-Task touchscreen helps select document tasks. A compatible Print and Hold driver can also send confidential work for four-digit PIN release at the panel. The original guide distinguishes printer-memory retention from optional-disk features; powering off deletes memory-held confidential jobs. Check the real driver and release method rather than assuming every mobile app offers the same protected submission routine.

Supplies and installation complete the comparison

Supplied toner is declared at 3,000 black pages and 1,400 for each color under ISO/IEC 19798. US high-yield examples include C251UK0 black at 8,000 pages and C241XC0, C241XM0 and C241XY0 colors at 3,500 each. Imaging units and the waste container are separate items. Match geographic compatibility and Return Program conditions without deriving current cost per page from yield alone.

The body is 17.4 inches wide, 23.1 deep and 18.2 high at 60 pounds, before optional equipment and operating clearance. Check the actual electrical label, cord and access for scanner, paper and service. This configuration is coherent for business color work and frequent two-sided capture. A reversing feeder may meet a less time-sensitive scanning routine; a verified larger input package matters more when refilling is the main interruption.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 40 one-sided Letter pages/minute black or color; automatic print duplex separately 20 Letter sides/minute. Single-pass Letter scan rates are up to 100 black/64 color sides/minute in duplex and 50 black/32 color in simplex. Scan images are not print pages.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet main tray plus one-sheet manual feed, total 250+1 at 20 lb/75 gsm; per-size main stack 250. Letter, Legal and A4 support automatic print duplex. Optional 650-sheet duo tray, or duo above additional 550, can raise maximum to 1450+1. None of those drawers is included. Envelopes follow the instructed simplex routine.

Scanning arrangement

100-sheet single-pass duplex ADF with color scanning, explicitly DADF. Letter/A4 simplex and duplex routes are positively specified. Glass maximum 8.5 by 11.7 inches; Legal ADF size is not established by the read scanning sections and is not inferred from Legal printing.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Exact scan destinations include USB- or network-connected computer. Front/rear Type-A USB serve accessories/walk-up media. AirPrint/Mopria are shared-network print routes; analog fax uses its separate telephone setup.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied toner declared 3,000 black and 1,400 each CMY ISO/IEC 19798 pages. US replacements include C251UK0 black 8,000 and C241XC0/C241XM0/C241XY0 colors 3,500 each. Imaging units and waste container are separate; cartridge region and Return Program terms apply.

Software and support

Compatible-driver Print and Hold supports confidential jobs with four-digit PIN/panel release. Power-off deletes memory-held confidential jobs. Optional hard disk, optional OCR/searchable PDF and disk-specific protections are not counted as included scanning or storage features.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US part 42CC580 established, nominal mains not directly established in read sections: verify actual electrical label and cord. Maker identifies FCC Class A equipment for non-residential/non-domestic environments. Allow scanner, paper and service access beyond body dimensions.
