A useful fit for

A modest office routine combining color reports, single-sided stacks to scan and a separately configured analog fax line.

The main tradeoff

Two-sided originals still need manual handling, and the recommended monthly maximum is 2,000 pages rather than its larger duty ceiling.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I print color Letter pages on both sides over Ethernet, scan single-sided Legal originals and use its analog fax after telephone setup?

Yes, with earlier models enabled. The exact adwe has a Legal-capable simplex ADF, Ethernet computer scanning and documented analog-fax hardware; fax requires its separate line setup.

Can I require automatic two-sided scanning of Letter originals?

No. The exact MC3224adwe specification calls its ADF simplex. Its integrated duplex hardware turns printed sheets, not scanner originals.

Will it meet a 2,500-page recommended monthly requirement?

No. Lexmark recommends up to 2,000 pages monthly for this model; its 40,000-page maximum duty cycle is not the recommended range.

The feeder and fax distinguish the adwe

The Lexmark MC3224adwe fits a small office that prints color documents and needs to scan a stack of single-sided originals without placing every page on the glass. It also includes analog-fax hardware. Its 50-sheet feeder, touch controls, built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet make a useful multifunction package, provided the deciding limitation is acceptable: the feeder scans only one side automatically.

The exact US model is part 40N9050, which Lexmark marks discontinued. Treat this as an earlier-model assessment when maintaining an existing installation or checking a particular offer. The similar MC3224dwe is a flatbed-focused configuration with different fax hardware, so the complete suffix matters. Verify the actual unit, regional power label, supplied equipment and current software path.

A stack of originals and a duplex print job

The feeder supports ordinary Letter, A4 and Legal originals. The scanner glass supports Letter and A4, while the original paper-route table excludes Legal from the glass. This distinction is useful for a long signed form: a Legal feeder route does not mean the entire form fits on the flatbed. Use the glass for an individual item unsuitable for feeding and the ADF for a supported stack.

For two-sided originals, the simplex ADF requires manual handling. Automatic two-sided printing is a different mechanism. Lexmark declares up to 24 one-sided Letter pages per minute in either black or color, with 13 Letter sides per minute for print duplex. The separate simplex scan rating is 21 Letter sides per minute. None of those figures is a measured result from this article, and the print-duplex number should not be interpreted as automatic duplex scanning.

Build the connection around the whole routine

The standard computer interfaces are USB Type-B, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. USB and network-connected computers are explicit scanning destinations in the model specification. For network capture, Lexmark's guide describes a ScanBack profile using the printer's IP address, with the computer and printer on the same network. Confirm that a compatible current utility or operating-system scanning route is available for your actual machine.

AirPrint and Mopria Print Service belong to the network printing arrangement. A direct USB-only connection does not supply the same mobile route. Analog fax needs a separate appropriate telephone connection and configuration; it is not carried by the Ethernet cable simply because network printing also works. The original model-by-model fax matrix positively includes analog fax for MC3224adwe. Historical Cloud Connector text should not be treated as a guarantee that a particular external cloud service remains usable.

Keep the paper supply and workload modest

The exact included input is a 250-sheet tray plus a one-sheet manual feeder. Lexmark combines these as 250+1, with the same maximum for this model. The manual slot is useful for an occasional different sheet, not another full stack. Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in the main tray and automatic print-duplex path. Envelopes use a separate instructed one-sided routine.

Lexmark's recommended monthly range is 250–2,000 pages. The 40,000-page maximum duty cycle is a separate ceiling and should not be substituted for ordinary workload guidance. At the upper end of the recommended range, refilling a 250-sheet tray is still part of the routine. Optional trays illustrated elsewhere in the shared family guide do not override this exact model's included and maximum input specification.

Supplies, placement and choosing the next step

The declared supplied toner yields are 750 black pages and 500 pages for each color under ISO/IEC 19798. US C3210K0, C3210C0, C3210M0 and C3210Y0 replacement cartridges are rated at 1,500 pages. Match the geographic region and distinguish Return Program conditions from regular supplies. Do not borrow higher-yield MC3326 cartridge claims or infer a current cost per page from yield alone.

The body measures 16.2 inches wide, 15.5 deep and 13.6 high, at 42.7 pounds. Leave further room to open the scanner, load paper and service the unit. If single-sided stacks and an analog line are the actual needs, the adwe configuration supplies useful hardware beyond a flatbed-only model. If two-sided original capture dominates the day, choose a documented duplex feeder instead; if monthly volume is higher, compare the appropriate workload class before prioritizing compact dimensions.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 24 one-sided Letter pages/minute in black or color; automatic duplex separately 13 Letter sides/minute under ISO/IEC 24734. Simplex scanning is 21 Letter sides/minute, a separate metric.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet tray plus one-sheet manual feeder, 250+1 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Per-size stack map counts 250 sheets for Letter, Legal and A4; all three support automatic print duplex. Optional family trays are not included.

Scanning arrangement

50-sheet simplex ADF supports Letter, Legal and A4 originals. Glass supports Letter/A4, not Legal. Automatic print duplex does not give this model automatic two-sided scanning.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Computer scan destinations include USB or network computer. AirPrint/Mopria printing are network routes. Analog fax needs its own configured telephone connection; it is not a function of an Ethernet cable.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied toner: 750 black/500 each CMY declared ISO/IEC 19798 pages. US C3210K0/C3210C0/C3210M0/C3210Y0 replacements are each rated 1,500 pages; geographic and Return Program conditions apply. Higher-yield MC3326 supplies are not borrowed.

Software and support

Use compatible current scanning software and driver. Exact current product page describes Apple AirPrint/AirScan and Android Mopria printing/scanning. Historical Cloud Connector text is not a promise of present external-service availability.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US part 40N9050 with applicable 110–127 V/60 Hz regional power edition; family guide explicitly says not dual-voltage. Confirm actual unit label and cable/telephone setup.
