A useful fit for

A small workgroup printing within the recommended 750–5,000 monthly pages and combining two-sided document capture with a telephone fax routine.

The main tradeoff

The included print stack is 250 sheets, the glass is Letter/A4 only, and the larger paper maximum needs optional trays.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I print color Legal reports on both sides over Ethernet, scan Legal originals in one pass on both sides and use analog fax at 4,000 monthly pages?

Yes, with earlier references enabled, compatible computer software and a separately configured telephone fax connection. The Legal single-pass feeder and print-duplex path fit the standard arrangement.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I require the glass as well as the automatic feeder to accept an entire Legal original?

No. Legal fits the feeder, but the original scanner-size table supports only Letter/A4 on the glass. Both selected routes must meet the size.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the base Letter package provide at least 500 included input sheets?

No. Standard input is 250 plus a one-sheet manual feed. Optional paper equipment is needed to reach the larger maximum.

Single-pass capture and telephone fax in a small workgroup

The Lexmark MC3426adw is an earlier compact color multifunction reference for an office that wants automatic two-sided capture and an analog telephone fax routine in the same machine. A 50-sheet single-pass feeder, automatic print duplex, copying, touchscreen, Ethernet and Wi-Fi are included. The practical paper limit is the standard 250-sheet tray; larger capacity requires optional equipment.

Lexmark marks exact US part 40N9360 discontinued. This describes a documented configuration rather than current stock or an individual unit's condition. Confirm the full suffix, regional label, actual drawers, supported software and consumables. The MC3426i looks closely related but does not include analog telephone fax, so the final letters materially change that part of the workflow.

Both sides of the original, with a smaller glass

The exact US specification explicitly identifies DADF single-pass duplex scanning. The original scanner-size table supports Letter, Legal and A4 through the document feeder, while the glass supports Letter and A4. The broad 8.5-by-14-inch scan-area headline is therefore not a Legal flatbed claim. Use the feeder for a suitable stack and the glass for a delicate page or individual original within its size limit.

For Letter, the maker declares up to 48 black or 21 color sides per minute in simplex scanning, and 96 black or 42 color sides per minute in duplex. A duplex image count includes the captured sides and must not be described as a printed-page rate. These are Lexmark specifications, not measurements from testing for this article. If Legal scanning must also work on glass, this model does not meet that combined requirement.

Printing and refilling remain separate considerations

The declared maximum print rate is 26 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color, with automatic duplex separately rated at 13 Letter sides per minute. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively supported in the ordinary print-duplex path. The scanner's faster side count does not describe the speed of a two-sided printed report.

The included input is 250 sheets plus a one-sheet manual feed on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Envelopes follow the instructed one-sided media routine. The 750+1 maximum requires optional paper hardware; it is not supplied with the base package. Lexmark recommends 750–5,000 printed pages per month, distinct from the 75,000-page maximum duty ceiling. Assess the expected workday against that recommendation and the real included stack.

Use each connection for its documented purpose

Standard interfaces are USB Type-B, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The exact scan destinations include either a USB-connected or network-connected computer. AirPrint and Mopria are documented shared-network printing routes. A compatible Print and Hold driver can also submit confidential PIN jobs for release at the 2.8-inch touchscreen; this does not promise the same protected submission method from every application.

Analog fax has its own telephone connection and setup. The original model matrix marks MC3426adw as supporting analog fax, unlike MC3426i, and the exact page lists a 33.6-kbps modem. That is different from sending fax through the Ethernet port or assuming every VoIP adapter is suitable. Confirm the intended telephone arrangement rather than treating the network printing setup as complete fax installation. Optional cloud transports are separate choices.

Supplies, installation and the deciding comparison

Supplied toner is declared at 1,500 pages for each CMYK cartridge under ISO/IEC 19798. US extra-high-yield C341XK0, C341XC0, C341XM0 and C341XY0 replacements are each rated at 4,500 pages. Standard C3210-family alternatives are each 1,500, and the waste container is separate. Check geographic compatibility, program conditions and actual remaining supplies without deriving today's running cost from yield alone.

The body is 16.2 inches wide, 15.5 deep and 13.6 high at 42.7 pounds, before operating clearance. Verify the actual US electrical label and correct cord, and leave access for originals, paper and service. This configuration is coherent when compact single-pass capture and telephone fax are both useful. Compare a simpler simplex feeder for mostly one-sided originals, or a verified larger paper package when refilling rather than scanning is the main interruption.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 26 one-sided Letter pages/minute black or color; automatic print duplex separately 13 Letter sides/minute. Single-pass Letter scan rates are up to 48 black/21 color sides/minute simplex and 96 black/42 color in duplex; these scan sides are not printed pages.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet tray plus one-sheet manual feed, standard 250+1 at 20 lb/75 gsm; per-size main stack 250. Letter, Legal and A4 support automatic print duplex. The 750+1 maximum needs optional paper hardware and is not included. Envelopes use the instructed one-sided routine.

Scanning arrangement

50-sheet single-pass duplex ADF with color scanning. Original scanner-size table supports Letter/Legal/A4 through the feeder, but Letter/A4 only on glass. General 8.5-by-14-inch scanner maximum must not be assigned to the flatbed.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB Type-B, gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Exact computer scan destinations include USB or network connection. AirPrint/Mopria are documented network printing routes. Analog fax uses its own telephone connection and configuration, not Ethernet fax or a guaranteed VoIP arrangement.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied toner declared 1,500 pages each CMYK under ISO/IEC 19798. US extra-high-yield C341XK0/C341XC0/C341XM0/C341XY0 replacements each 4,500 pages; standard C3210-family alternatives each 1,500. Match geographic and Return Program conditions. Waste container is separate.

Software and support

Use compatible print/scan software. Exact US page identifies AirPrint and Mopria Print Service network routes. Original guide pages 65–66 supports driver Print and Hold confidential jobs and four-digit PIN release at the touchscreen; that does not promise protected submission from every mobile app.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US regional configuration plus original nominal 110–127 V/60 Hz input reference, separate from high-voltage editions and not dual-voltage. Verify the actual label and cord. Body dimensions exclude scanner, tray and service access.
