A useful fit for

A 500–2,500-page monthly monochrome group wanting readable status, ordinary-paper duplex and documented network AirPrint.

The main tradeoff

Wi-Fi and the second tray are optional; the larger models’ PIN workflow is not established for the MS312.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the included Ethernet setup print monochrome A4 on both sides with 300 sheets and 2,000 monthly pages?

Yes with earlier references enabled. The exact model includes duplex and wired networking, and the scoped paper table supports A4 in both normal inputs and duplex.

Is this a documented PIN-release choice merely because the family manual has a confidential-job chapter?

No positive MS312 workflow is established. That chapter explicitly names MS315, MS415 and MS417, so the MS312 does not qualify a required PIN feature here.

Can it scan and copy original paper documents?

No. The exact hardware classification is print-only monochrome laser.

A text display for a small monochrome workgroup

The Lexmark MS312dn is an earlier wired monochrome printer with a two-line APA LCD, automatic print duplex and 300 sheets of combined input. It fits a small group that prints within a 500–2,500-page recommended monthly range and wants readable status messages rather than interpreting only a pattern of lights.

Exact US part 35S0060 is marked discontinued by Lexmark. Check the physical unit, correct regional supplies and usable software before considering an offered example. The specification establishes a print-only machine. Mobile software names and the presence of a screen do not turn it into a paper scanner, copier or fax device.

Built-in wired networking, optional wireless

Standard connections include USB Type-B, bidirectional parallel and 10/100BaseTX Ethernet. The Ethernet interface also works in a 1000Base-T network, but that compatibility is different from having a gigabit-speed printer port. A normal USB computer connection remains useful where one workstation owns the printer or a shared network is unnecessary.

The exact model page explicitly supports AirPrint for compatible iOS devices. Suitable shared networking must let the mobile device discover and reach the printer; the printer can be wired into that network. Wi-Fi hardware is optional. Avoid assuming either an included radio or a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi Direct routine from the mobile-printing claim.

Driver and firmware compatibility still matter on an older unit. The historical operating-system list is useful background, rather than a promise about every current computer. Confirm the actual application and driver you intend to use, especially if a specialist document format or centrally managed network is involved.

Match the regular month and the actual printing mode

Maximum one-sided Letter speed is declared at 35 pages per minute, with automatic duplex separately 16 Letter sides per minute. Do not use the first number as a two-sided completion estimate. File complexity, preparation time and media choices also make a rated continuous printing figure different from a complete office task.

The 50,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle is a separate robustness figure. The recommended monthly ceiling remains 2,500 pages. A group routinely needing more should compare a model whose recommended volume covers that need, even when its headline speed looks similar. Recommendations and duty cycles answer different questions.

Two ordinary-paper inputs and a separate envelope routine

The included 250-sheet drawer and 50-sheet multipurpose feeder provide 300 sheets on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. The original table supports Letter, Legal and A4 in both inputs and automatic duplex. Loading both with suitable matching ordinary paper can use the combined capacity; this is not a single enclosed 300-sheet tray.

Set size and type to match the paper, and align the guides rather than leaving them at a nearby size. Legal loading extends the length guide beyond the base and changes the space needed behind the printer. Matching source settings matter for tray linking, while different settings help keep specialty stock from being substituted for ordinary pages.

Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose feeder on one side. They are not authorized as automatic-duplex stock. An optional 250- or 550-sheet second tray can expand input, with 850 maximum using the larger option. Check that the actual accessory exists and is configured in the driver before treating that maximum as usable.

Keep the protected-output and supply boundaries clear

The shared guide has a confidential-job chapter, but explicitly names MS315, MS415 and MS417 for that routine. It does not establish a complete MS312 PIN-release arrangement. If protected output is a deciding requirement, choose a model with a positive exact workflow rather than relying on a family-wide assumption.

The original US toner is declared at 1,500 pages. Listed 50F replacements reach 5,000 pages, with a separate 60,000-page imaging unit and regional cartridge conditions. These are declared yields, not current ownership costs. The body is 15.7 inches wide, 15.0 deep and 10.3 high at 30.9 pounds. Allow operating access and inspect the actual electrical label before installation.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Manufacturer maximum 35 one-sided Letter pages/minute; automatic duplex separately 16 Letter sides/minute. Not A4 or measured application results.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet main tray and 50-sheet multipurpose feeder total 300 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both inputs and automatic duplex. Set matching size/type and guides; Legal loading extends the main tray beyond the body. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided multipurpose routine. One optional 250- or 550-sheet tray is not included; maximum with 550 is 850.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only monochrome laser hardware, without document scanning, copying, fax or an ADF. A color display or mobile software does not add those functions.

Computer and mobile connections

Included 10/100BaseTX Ethernet, USB Type-B computer and parallel ports. Compatibility with 1000Base-T does not make the port gigabit. Wi-Fi requires an optional MarkNet adapter. AirPrint uses suitable shared networking.

Supplies and declared yields

US supplied Return Program toner: 1,500 pages. Replacements 50F1000 at 1,500 and 50F1H00/50F0HA0 at 5,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate 50F0Z00/50F0ZA0 60,000 imaging unit uses its own job/coverage basis. Match geographical cartridge and Return Program conditions.

Software and support

Two-line monochrome APA LCD with buttons, plus supported computer software and settings utility. AirPrint is exact-model positive; Mopria certification/configuration remains unestablished. The shared guide restricts its confidential PIN chapter to MS315/MS415/MS417, so no complete MS312 PIN workflow is established.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US configuration is separately established. Nominal mains input remains unestablished in the read sources; inspect the actual rating label and correct cord. Body dimensions exclude extended Legal guides, loading and service clearance.
