Its useful distinction is documented confidential printing from compatible computer software, rather than a color-printing engine.
The original lead was Canadian, but an independent Lexmark US page identifies the same part and US package. This reference uses that US configuration while retaining the original regional identity. Lexmark marks the model discontinued. Check the offered unit, correct geographical supplies and usable drivers before treating a historical specification as a practical buying choice.
A PIN routine has a specific scope
The original guide expressly names MS315, MS415 and MS417 in its confidential-job instructions. A four-digit PIN is set at the computer and used at the printer control panel to release the protected job. Memory demand and held-job expiration settings matter; stored jobs are not an unconditional permanent archive.
Use an appropriate driver and application that can submit the intended confidential job, then check release on the actual device. An ordinary mobile print command need not expose the same job controls. This distinction is useful in a shared room where leaving a sensitive page in the output bin would defeat the purpose of having a keypad.
Keep Letter speed, A4 speed and monthly volume separate
The US specification declares up to 37 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 17 Letter duplex sides per minute. The Canadian page also lists 35 A4 pages per minute and 15 A4 duplex sides per minute. These are distinct modes and paper sizes, not competing measurements of one identical task. The 300-sheet package supports ordinary duplex
Included input totals 300 sheets on the declared 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. The original table supports Letter, Legal and A4 in both the 250-sheet drawer and 50-sheet multipurpose feeder, and in automatic duplex. Set guides and size/type correctly for the chosen load, particularly when using two sources for matching ordinary paper.
Longer Legal stock extends the tray guide beyond the printer's base. A closed-body measurement therefore understates that routine's operating depth. Suitable envelopes have a separate one-sided multipurpose-feeder routine; their presence in the media list does not permit automatic envelope duplex or main-drawer feeding.
A second 250- or 550-sheet tray is optional, with maximum input of 850 using the larger accessory. Inspect the real installed configuration and driver settings before relying on expansion. The 150-sheet output bin is another capacity to manage during longer queues, rather than additional input.
Network convenience and supplies to verify
AirPrint is explicitly named for the exact US model and can work through suitable shared networking while the printer uses Ethernet. Optional MarkNet Wi-Fi is a separate installation. Confirm device discovery and firmware for the intended network, and do not assume included wireless or Wi-Fi Direct. USB remains a conventional computer-printing choice.
