Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can USB combine Legal duplex, PIN release, 350 included sheets and 7,000 monthly pages?
Yes with compatible protected-job software. The exact configuration and original paper/PIN sections support that arrangement.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a shared Ethernet network provide the exact AirPrint and Mopria printing routes?
Yes for compatible devices and reachable shared networking. The exact page positively lists those print protocols; it does not create scan hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the dn suffix include the dw model’s wireless radio?
No. This exact US page says Wireless No and provides USB/gigabit Ethernet as its standard computer connections.

The Lexmark MS431dn offers automatic duplex, a two-line monochrome LCD and 350 sheets of combined input for an 800–8,000-page recommended monthly routine. Exact US part 29S0050 includes gigabit Ethernet and USB Type-B. It suits a workgroup that wants conventional wired access and documented protected computer jobs without depending on an included wireless radio.
The read US page has no discontinued banner, so this remains a current manufacturer reference. That is not a stock, price or new-generation promise. Check the actual offered unit, regional supplies and intended software. The official hardware classification is print-only black and white; generic scanning software names do not add a scanner or copier.
The dn and dw connection packages differ
The exact dn specification positively lists gigabit Ethernet and says Wireless No. Keep that record separate from the dw variant's wireless package and its separately listed Ethernet speed. Similar model numbers and a common user guide do not justify exchanging connection details between them.
USB Type-B provides computer attachment. The separate Direct USB No entry concerns another facility and does not remove that computer interface. AirPrint and Mopria Print are explicitly supported for suitable shared networking, so a compatible mobile device can reach the wired printer through the appropriate network. Discovery, firmware and device compatibility still matter.
Neither shared-network mobile access nor a common Wi-Fi chapter establishes an included radio on this dn. If wireless attachment is essential, compare a positively documented wireless configuration. That is a more concrete decision than assuming an accessory or a similarly suffixed printer will behave identically.
Confidential jobs need a supported submission path
The original guide provides actual protected-output instructions: Windows software uses Print and Hold, while Mac software can use AirPrint PIN Printing or the appropriate confidential-job driver option. A four-digit PIN controls release at the panel. Confirm the complete routine on the intended software and firmware.
Job expiration and storage settings apply. A normal mobile print button may not expose the same protected-job controls, so test the required submission method rather than relying only on the presence of a security menu. The two-line display and buttons are sufficient for the documented local routine without a touchscreen claim.
Two included sources, with one optional expansion
The 250-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 350 sheets on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both sources and the automatic-duplex path. Set the guides and paper size/type correctly, and use matching settings when linking ordinary-paper loads.
Suitable envelopes have a separate one-sided multipurpose-feeder routine. They are not ordinary main-drawer or automatic-duplex stock. One optional 550-sheet drawer can raise input to 900; the base package does not contain that expansion. Confirm the installed hardware and driver settings before counting it. Output is separately 150 sheets.
Maximum one-sided Letter printing is declared at 42 pages per minute, with duplex separately 18 Letter sides per minute. These are manufacturer modes rather than measured application results. The 80,000-page maximum duty cycle is also separate from the 8,000-page recommended monthly ceiling.
Exact supplies and practical installation
The original US starter declares 3,000 pages. Listed replacements include 55B1000 at 3,000, 55B1H00 at 15,000 and 55B1X00 or 55B0XA0 at 20,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate 40,000-page imaging unit has its own job and coverage basis. Do not substitute B3442 toner simply because some hardware documentation is shared.
Match regional cartridge and Return Program terms. The body measures 14.5 inches wide, 14.3 deep and 8.7 high at 20.6 pounds. Allow loading, output and service access, inspect the electrical label and verify usable current software. Different hardware is required for scanning, fax or printed color.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Manufacturer maximum 42 one-sided Letter pages/minute; automatic duplex separately 18 Letter sides/minute. Declared modes, not measured application results.
Paper handling
Included 250-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 350 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both ordinary sources and automatic duplex. Match guides and size/type. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided multipurpose routine. One optional 550-sheet drawer raises maximum to 900 and is not included.
Scanning arrangement
Official hardware classification is print-only monochrome laser. Generic AirScan, Mopria Scan and scan/fax driver text do not add a scanner, copier, fax or ADF.
Computer and mobile connections
Included gigabit Ethernet and USB Type-B computer interface on exact US MS431dn. Wireless explicitly No. AirPrint/Mopria use suitable shared networking; no included Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct plan.
Supplies and declared yields
US supplied Return Program toner 3,000 pages. 55B1000 replacement 3,000; 55B1H00 15,000; 55B1X00/55B0XA0 20,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate 55B0ZA0 imaging unit 40,000 uses its own job/coverage basis. Match regional restrictions and Return Program terms; not B3442 B34 supplies.
Software and support
Two-line monochrome LCD with buttons. Original guide documents Windows Print and Hold plus Mac AirPrint PIN Printing or compatible driver confidential jobs, with four-digit PIN and panel release. Confirm actual software/firmware and job controls; not every mobile print button submits a protected job. Exact AirPrint/Mopria protocol listings and shared-network conditions apply.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US model and unit-body dimensions established. Nominal mains input remains unestablished in the read sources; inspect actual rating label and correct cord. Allow paper loading, output and service access beyond the closed body.
