A useful fit for

A wired workgroup producing substantial black-and-white documents with supported duplex and compatible-driver confidential release.

The main tradeoff

The fast engine does not include extra paper trays, wireless or finishing equipment, and the newer US workload figure differs from the older sheet.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I print mono Legal reports automatically on both sides over Ethernet at 90,000 monthly pages with 650 included sheets?

Yes, with earlier references enabled. The current exact US page recommends up to 100,000 monthly pages and declares 70 one-sided Letter ppm; the separate duplex rate is 42 Letter sides/minute. Check the older unit against the preserved lower earlier recommendation.

Can the standard configuration join my office Wi-Fi network?

No. The included network connection is gigabit Ethernet. MarkNet N8350 wireless is an optional interface.

Is a Mopria printing route positively established for this exact configuration?

No. The read guide qualifies Mopria to some models, and this exact-model evidence does not settle it. Select a model with explicit support if Mopria is essential.

A high-rate mono engine with a standard-sized paper supply

The Lexmark MS812dn is an earlier wired workgroup printer for substantial black-and-white documents and automatic two-sided reports. Its exact US page declares a high Letter print rate, but the base configuration remains a 550-sheet tray plus a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder. The practical tradeoff is that engine speed does not include the extra drawers, output devices or finishing equipment often shown around this printer family.

Lexmark identifies US part 40G0310 as discontinued. The configuration is useful as a reference for an installed unit or a clearly identified offer, not a statement of current stock or renewed support. Check the suffix, actual accessories, compatible driver, regional electrical label and service condition before deciding that an older machine will handle a new workload.

Separate simplex speed, duplex speed and workload

The current exact US specification gives up to 70 one-sided Letter pages per minute. Automatic duplex is separately rated at 42 Letter sides per minute. These manufacturer declarations are not hands-on measurements for this article. A two-sided job should not be described with the larger simplex figure, and the earlier series sheet's differently presented speed should not be substituted for the explicit current Letter rating.

The same US page recommends 5,000–100,000 pages monthly, with a distinct 350,000-page maximum duty cycle. The preserved earlier sheet lists 5,000–50,000 recommended pages and a 300,000-page duty ceiling. This reference uses the current exact US page while retaining that discrepancy. For an older physical unit, confirm the applicable documentation and condition before planning around the higher published recommendation. Maximum duty is not the recommended sustained monthly routine.

Ordinary paper fits; expanded capacity needs equipment

The included 650-sheet capacity uses the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively supported in the main tray, multipurpose source and automatic duplex path in the original guide. That supports an actual Legal two-sided reporting arrangement rather than combining a generic Legal simplex claim with an unrelated duplex feature. Envelopes have a separate instructed one-sided routine and media limits.

The 4,400-sheet maximum requires optional paper hardware. Additional output devices, mailboxes and staple equipment are separate accessories with their own size and configuration conditions. A 550-sheet output bin collects finished work and must not be added to input capacity. If reduced refilling or automatic finishing is essential, compare the complete installed package rather than the base printer's fastest engine figure.

Wired sharing, supported mobile printing and held jobs

Standard interfaces are gigabit Ethernet and USB Type-B. The front Type-A USB port is for flash media; it is not the computer cable connection. MarkNet N8350 wireless and parallel or serial interfaces are optional. AirPrint is named on the exact US page and belongs to a suitable shared-network setup. A mobile device can use the appropriate reachable network without implying that the printer contains a wireless radio.

The original guide's named MS812dn section describes four-digit PIN-held jobs through a compatible Print and Hold driver and the panel. Memory retains the job, with possible deletion when additional memory is needed. This does not assume an included optional hard disk or promise PIN creation from every phone application. Mopria stays unestablished because the guide limits that feature to some models. The color LCD does not change this explicitly monochrome, print-only machine into a color printer, scanner, copier or fax.

Check the supplies and the whole installation

The supplied starter toner is declared at 10,000 one-sided ISO/IEC 19752 pages. US replacement examples include 52D1000 at 6,000, 52D1H00 at 25,000 and 52D1X00 at 45,000 pages. The imaging unit is a separate item with an up-to-100,000-page declaration under its stated job and coverage conditions. Match geographic cartridge compatibility and Return Program terms; yield alone does not establish current running cost.

The body is 16.7 inches wide, 20.1 deep and 16.5 high at 52.2 pounds. Add operating access, ventilation and accessory space, and check the actual US low-voltage label and cord. This reference fits a compatible wired mono duplex routine. Compare explicitly wireless hardware for Wi-Fi, actual multifunction hardware for scanning, or a verified expanded paper package when the base input is the bottleneck.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Current exact US specification declares up to 70 one-sided Letter pages/minute and separately 42 Letter sides/minute in automatic duplex. These are maker specifications under its stated ISO method, not measured throughput.

Paper handling

Included 550-sheet tray plus 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 650 ordinary sheets at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter, Legal and A4 are positive in both included sources and the automatic duplex path. The 4,400-sheet maximum, extra outputs and finishers are optional. Envelopes follow a separate instructed simplex routine.

Scanning arrangement

Original maker support explicitly identifies print-only monochrome laser hardware. Optional scanner equipment or a color LCD does not give this configuration scanning or color printing.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard USB Type-B computer printing and gigabit Ethernet. Front USB Type-A serves flash media. MarkNet N8350 Wi-Fi, parallel and serial interfaces are optional and excluded from these included plans.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied starter toner declared 10,000 one-sided ISO/IEC 19752 pages. Exact US replacements include 52D1000 at 6,000, 52D1H00 at 25,000 and 52D1X00 at 45,000 pages; regular 52D0XA0 is another 45,000-page option. Separate imaging-unit yield is up to 100,000 under the stated three-page Letter/A4-job and coverage conditions. Match region and Return Program terms.

Software and support

Compatible-driver Print and Hold supports four-digit PIN release through the panel; held jobs may be deleted when memory is needed. Optional disk functions are not assumed included. Mopria in this guide is qualified to some models, so exact support remains unknown.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US SKU and regional technical-reference low-voltage row: nominal 100–127 V at 47–63 Hz, separate from high-voltage editions. Verify the actual unit label, cord and installed hardware. Body dimensions exclude working clearance; do not use a voltage converter.
