Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an office use Ethernet, AirPrint, PIN release and 650 included Legal sheets for 40,000 monthly mono pages?
Yes for the documented shared-network printing and compatible-driver confidential-job arrangement. Class A nonresidential conditions apply, and output is one-sided.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the listed 33-spm row mean it can automatically duplex Letter documents?
No. The exact features and Duplex fields both say Not Available; the inconsistent speed row is not used to create duplex hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I connect over included Wi-Fi without installing an option?
No supported base Wi-Fi arrangement is established. The standard interfaces are wired; MarkNet wireless hardware is separately optional.

The Lexmark MS821n is a monochrome workgroup printer for offices whose ordinary documents can be printed on one side. Its exact US configuration, part 50G0050, includes a 550-sheet main drawer, a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder and gigabit Ethernet. It is an FCC Class A device that Lexmark says is not intended for residential or domestic environments. That makes its operating location a meaningful part of the choice.
The official US page remains a current reference without an observed discontinued banner. This does not establish present availability, an offer's contents or current service coverage. Check the actual part number and installed accessories, especially when a listing combines several MS821 configurations or uses a family photograph.
Do not turn a contradictory speed row into duplex hardware
Both the features list and the detailed Duplex field explicitly say that two-sided printing is not available. Nevertheless, the same page contains a 33-sides-per-minute Letter duplex row. Those statements are inconsistent. The two explicit configuration declarations govern this reference: MS821n does not qualify for automatic double-sided printing. A generic family paper table describing a duplex path also cannot install that path in this particular variant.
The supported speed declaration is up to 55 one-sided black Letter pages per minute. It is a manufacturer rating, not a measured result from this article. First-page time, document processing and the frequency of small jobs all affect how that maximum relates to a real work queue. A control screen displaying color does not change the monochrome print engine.
Plan routine volume from the specific table
The detailed recommended monthly range is 3,000–50,000 pages. Maximum monthly duty is separately 250,000 pages. A marketing paragraph calls 350,000 a recommended figure and also mentions copying. The exact workload table and print-only support classification give a more specific account of this model; neither the larger marketing number nor the copying language supplies a normal operating allowance or a scanner.
Included input totals 650 sheets on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in the 550-sheet tray and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder. Suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided multipurpose routine with the printer's size and type settings matched to the media. The included 550-sheet output bin is output space, not a second input drawer.
Expansion requires an actual supported configuration
The advertised 4,400-sheet input maximum relies on optional equipment. The guide gives placement and stability rules, including a caster base and bottom position for the optional 2,100-sheet drawer. Output accessories also have combination limits. For example, the staple and hole-punch finisher cannot simply be combined with every other output option. Price an expanded package only after confirming its supported physical arrangement and installation requirements.
The body is 16.85 inches wide, 20.1 deep and 17.5 high, weighing 56 pounds. Those measurements exclude working access and accessories. Front access can be useful, but it does not eliminate the need to allow ventilation, loading and service space. Inspect the actual electrical label and correct cord before installation.
Network sharing, protected jobs and regional supplies
USB Type-B is the computer connection; the front Type-A interface has a different purpose. Ethernet supports shared printing and the guide's AirPrint or Mopria arrangements on a suitable network. Built-in Wi-Fi is not included: MarkNet wireless hardware appears as an option. A phone can reach a wired printer through the same appropriate network without the printer itself containing a radio.
Compatible Print and Hold or Job Routing software can submit a confidential job with a user name and four-digit PIN for release at the keypad and LCD. The ordinary routine does not require an optional disk. Confirm the intended driver and application, because generic mobile submission does not necessarily provide that same protected-job workflow.
The US record declares 11,000-page supplied toner, with 15,000-page 58D1H00 Return Program or 58D0HA0 regular replacements and a 7,500-page 58D1000 option. Its yield footnotes inconsistently name two ISO standards, so they should not be presented as one uniform test basis. Regional cartridge restrictions and Return Program terms matter; the separate imaging unit's estimated life does not establish running cost or guaranteed maintenance intervals.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Declared maximum 55 one-sided black Letter pages/minute. A 33-spm duplex row conflicts with both feature and Duplex fields saying Not Available; no automatic duplex capability or useful duplex rate is assigned to MS821n.
Paper handling
Included 550-sheet tray plus 100-sheet multipurpose feeder, combined 650 at 20 lb/75 gsm. Both support Letter/Legal/A4; this exact n variant explicitly has no automatic print duplex. Envelopes use a separate one-sided multipurpose routine. Maximum 4,400 input and finishing require supported optional equipment; 2,100-sheet drawer requires caster base and bottom placement.
Scanning arrangement
Explicitly print-only monochrome laser hardware. No paper scanner, copier, fax or document feeder; generic driver or software lists do not add hardware.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB Type-B computer connection, gigabit Ethernet and front Type-A flash-drive interface. Wi-Fi is an optional MarkNet installation, not included. AirPrint/Mopria use a suitable shared network; no Wi-Fi Direct arrangement is established.
Supplies and declared yields
US box and supplied-cartridge field declare 11,000-page Return Program toner. Specific replacements are 58D1H00 Return Program or 58D0HA0 regular at 15,000, and 58D1000 at 7,500; regional compatibility and Return Program terms apply. Opening/box text cites ISO/IEC 19752 while later generic footnotes name 19798; preserve the inconsistency rather than claiming a unified test basis. Separate 58D0Z00/58D0ZA0 imaging unit estimated 150,000 on stated job/coverage assumptions.
Software and support
The exact-model guide documents compatible Print and Hold/Job Routing jobs with a user name and four-digit PIN, then release at the non-touchscreen control panel. Ordinary confidential jobs do not require an optional disk. Confirm current driver, application and firmware compatibility; a generic mobile print button is not necessarily the same protected-job submission.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US model is an FCC Class A device, not intended for residential/domestic environments. Nominal mains input remains unestablished; inspect the actual electrical label and correct cord. Body dimensions exclude working clearance, optional drawers and output hardware.
