A useful fit for

A wired small office needing two-sided document capture, conventional fax and computer PIN jobs within a 10,000-page recommended monthly ceiling.

The main tradeoff

Legal scanning uses the feeder, Wi-Fi is optional and its exact cartridge family differs from the MX410.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a USB workstation use Legal duplex printing, Legal duplex feeder scans and PIN release?

Yes with compatible computer print/scan software. The feeder is reversing, the included ordinary-paper input is 300 sheets and the documented PIN routine uses Print and Hold.

Can Ethernet support scans, copies and fax for 9,000 pages per month?

Yes with network scanning configured and a suitable separate phone line for analog fax. Ethernet itself is not the fax transport.

Can I require Legal glass scanning alongside the duplex feeder?

No. Legal is supported in the feeder, while the exact guide footnote excludes this model from Legal glass support.

Duplex document handling for a wired office

The Lexmark MX417de combines monochrome output with color scanning, copying and analog fax. US part 35SC701 includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen, gigabit Ethernet, automatic print duplex and a 50-sheet reversing document feeder. Its practical appeal is collecting both sides of ordinary originals without manually turning each one.

The configuration remains an earlier reference: Lexmark explicitly marks it discontinued. Judge an offered unit by condition, installed options, compatible software and supplies. The 750–10,000-page recommended monthly range is the workload guide; the 100,000-page maximum duty cycle describes a separate limit and should not be treated as a normal monthly target.

Know which surface accepts Legal

The feeder supports Letter, Legal and A4 originals, including automatic two-sided scanning. It reverses each sheet, so it does not meet a single-pass requirement. The maker separately declares up to 43 Letter black sides per minute for simplex scans and 19 for duplex, with color duplex separately up to 8. Those are scan modes rather than print speeds or measured end-to-end job times.

The glass is the route for books, photographs, small items and originals unsuited to the feeder. Its documented ordinary sizes are Letter and A4. The shared guide's Legal-glass checkmark carries a footnote limited to MX510, MX511 and MX517. A full Legal original can use this feeder, but should not be promised full-size glass capture.

Load acceptable feeder sheets faceup, short edge first, and set the guides. For fragile full-length Legal documents, compare a model with confirmed Legal glass. For large recurring duplex batches, compare the actual reversing and single-pass mechanisms before choosing by a headline scanning number.

Computer access and protected output

The exact US page lists USB and network-connected computer scan destinations. USB Type-B attaches a computer, while gigabit Ethernet provides the standard shared-network path. The original guide describes creating a computer scan profile and initiating it at the panel. Verify that the required scanner software or profile workflow works on the intended operating system.

The front Type-A port serves documented flash-drive functions and has file and FAT-format restrictions. It is separate from the Type-B computer interface. Wireless uses an optional N8352 adapter. Generic Mobile Print app wording and conditional common-guide chapters do not, by themselves, establish every named mobile protocol for this exact package.

Confidential output is more specific than a general security claim. Compatible computer software submits a Print and Hold job with a four-digit PIN, then the user releases it locally. The original instructions cover memory pressure, expiration and incorrect-attempt limits. A basic mobile print interface should not be assumed to expose the same controls.

Analog fax requires its station details and a suitable separately connected phone line. A network cable does not replace that telephone connection. Check any adapter or voice-service arrangement for fax compatibility in the real installation.

Paper capacity and the correct toner generation

The included 250-sheet drawer and 50-sheet multipurpose feeder total 300 sheets on the stated 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both inputs and ordinary automatic duplex. Set paper size and type to match the load. Envelopes use a separate one-sided feeder routine; the optional 550-sheet tray is needed to reach the 850-sheet maximum.

Printing is declared at up to 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute, with duplex separately 18 Letter sides per minute. Neither figure is a hands-on result for a particular business file. Color originals can be captured in color, but printed pages and copies remain monochrome.

The US starter declares 2,500 pages. Exact replacements are 51B1000 at 2,500 and 51B1H00 or 51B0HA0 at 8,500 under ISO/IEC 19752. These are not the MX410's 60F cartridges. The separate 60,000-page imaging unit uses a different job and coverage basis. Match regional and Return Program terms, inspect the electrical label, and leave operating access around the 44-pound body.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Manufacturer maximum 40 one-sided Letter pages/minute; duplex printing separately 18 Letter sides/minute. Letter color duplex scanning is separately up to 8 sides/minute, not a print rate.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet drawer plus 50-sheet MPF: 300 sheets at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter/Legal/A4 fit both inputs and automatic ordinary-paper duplex. Optional 550-sheet tray raises input to 850. Suitable envelopes use MPF simplex.

Scanning arrangement

50-sheet reversing duplex ADF supports Letter/Legal/A4; not single-pass. Glass supports Letter/A4. Exact guide table limits Legal glass to MX510/MX511/MX517.

Computer and mobile connections

Included gigabit Ethernet, USB Type-B and front Type-A flash interface. USB/network computer scanning is explicit. N8352 Wi-Fi is optional. Exact AirPrint/Mopria remain unestablished by this source set; conditional shared-guide chapters and Mobile Print app wording do not establish either.

Supplies and declared yields

US starter Return Program toner 2,500 pages. Replacements 51B1000 2,500 and 51B1H00/51B0HA0 8,500 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate 50F0Z00/50F0ZA0 imaging unit 60,000 has its own job/coverage basis; not MX410 60F cartridges.

Software and support

Original guide 78–79 supports compatible computer Print and Hold with four-digit 0–9 confidential PIN release. Memory, expiration and invalid-attempt settings apply. Front flash use has FAT/file restrictions.

Electrical edition and setup

Analog fax needs station information and a suitable separate phone-line arrangement. Inspect the actual electrical label and compatible current print/scan software. Body measurements exclude loading and service access.
