Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can US Ethernet combine fax, Legal glass, Legal duplex feeder scans and 350-sheet Legal print duplex?
Yes with compatible computer scan software and a suitable separate fax line. The exact US package and model-specific paper footnote support this configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Can USB support PIN-held Letter duplex jobs for 11,000 monthly pages?
Yes with compatible Print and Hold software. The exact US recommendation reaches 12,000 pages per month and the ordinary PIN routine is documented.
Explore this need in the finder →Does automatic duplex scanning mean the feeder is single-pass?
No. The exact US specification identifies a reversing duplex feeder, so it does not meet a single-pass requirement.

The Lexmark MX511de suits a wired team whose paperwork includes two-sided loose sheets and originals that need to remain flat. The independently checked US package, part 35S5703, includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 50-sheet reversing document feeder, Legal-size glass, analog fax and 350 sheets of combined input. Printed output is monochrome even though scanning and the display use color.
The original research lead points to a different regional part, 35S5783. That page gives A4 speeds, while the US page separately establishes 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute and 20 Letter sides per minute in duplex. Keep those regional records distinct when checking an offered machine, its supplies and electrical label. A matching model name does not make every regional package identical.
Two scanner routes, with automatic reversal
Letter, Legal and A4 are supported through the feeder and on the glass. This is a meaningful difference from smaller family members: the common paper table's Legal-glass footnote explicitly includes MX511. A fragile full-length Legal original therefore has a documented flat route rather than having to be fed through rollers.
Normal multi-page originals go faceup into the feeder, short edge first, with the guides adjusted. It captures both faces automatically by reversing each sheet. That mechanism is different from single-pass capture; compare the actual method if large recurring duplex batches drive the purchase. Books, photos, thin media and small items belong on the glass.
The US scan figures also separate black and color modes. Letter simplex scanning is declared up to 43 black or 20 color sides per minute, with duplex separately 19 black or 9 color sides. These specifications do not measure the complete time to process and save a particular file.
Set up the computer and telephone paths separately
The exact US source lists scanning to USB- or network-connected computers. Gigabit Ethernet can use the documented Scan Profile workflow: choose settings and a destination on the computer, submit the profile and initiate it at the touchscreen. Confirm current scanner software, destination permissions and the intended operating system before relying on a historical workflow.
USB Type-B connects a workstation. Front and rear Type-A interfaces have their own roles, with supported front flash-drive printing and scanning subject to file and FAT-format restrictions. Wireless needs an optional N8350 card. The exact US AirPrint listing supports appropriate shared networking rather than establishing an included radio.
Analog fax adds a separate telephone setup, station identity and suitable line or adapter arrangement. The Ethernet port is not the ordinary analog fax connection. If an office uses a voice service adapter, confirm fax compatibility for that installation instead of assuming the network settings complete the job.
Paper loads and protected computer jobs
The standard 250-sheet drawer and 100-sheet multipurpose feeder total 350 sheets on the declared 20-pound or 75-gsm basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit both inputs and automatic duplex. Appropriate paper settings matter, and suitable envelopes use a separate one-sided feeder routine. Optional drawers are required to reach the 2,000-sheet maximum.
Compatible computer Print and Hold software submits confidential jobs with a four-digit PIN for local release. Expiration, invalid attempts and available memory affect stored jobs. The de model lists a hard disk as optional; do not borrow the included disk of a dhe configuration or promise optional OCR and advanced PDF processing without their stated upgrades.
Workload, toner and an earlier offered unit
The US recommendation is 2,000–12,000 pages per month, separate from its 120,000-page maximum duty cycle. The original starter declares 5,000 pages. Listed replacements are 60F1000 at 2,500, 60F1H00 at 10,000 and 60F1X00 or 60F0XA0 at 20,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate 60,000-page imaging unit has another job and coverage basis.
Match regional and Return Program terms. Lexmark marks this model discontinued, so verify condition, working software and compatible supplies. Allow loading and service room around the 48-pound body. A confirmed wireless or single-pass MFP is a more suitable alternative when either capability is essential.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Independently sourced US part 35S5703: maximum 45 one-sided Letter pages/minute and separately 20 Letter duplex sides/minute. Original regional 35S5783 lists 42 A4 ppm and 18 A4 duplex spm; those are not Letter rates.
Paper handling
US included 250-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet MPF: 350 sheets at 20 lb/75 gsm. Letter/Legal/A4 fit both ordinary inputs and automatic duplex. Maximum 2,000 needs optional drawers. Suitable envelopes use MPF simplex.
Scanning arrangement
50-sheet reversing duplex ADF, not single-pass. Guide 70–71 positively includes MX511 for Legal glass as well as Letter/A4; Letter/Legal/A4 are supported in the feeder. USB/network computer destinations are explicit.
Computer and mobile connections
US included gigabit Ethernet, USB Type-B, front/rear Type-A and an internal option slot. N8350 wireless and parallel/serial interfaces are optional. Exact US AirPrint uses suitable shared networking; exact Mopria remains unestablished.
Supplies and declared yields
US starter Return Program toner 5,000 pages. 60F1000 replacement 2,500; 60F1H00 10,000; 60F1X00/60F0XA0 20,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate 50F0Z00/50F0ZA0 imaging unit 60,000 uses a different job/coverage basis. Original regional supplies are not substituted.
Software and support
Compatible computer Print and Hold uses a four-digit 0–9 confidential PIN and local release under guide 78–79. Memory/expiration/invalid-attempt settings apply. Optional OCR, RAM and disk conditions apply to specified advanced PDF features; disk is optional on de, not included as on dhe.
Electrical edition and setup
Analog fax uses station setup and a suitable separately connected phone line. Confirm actual US package, electrical label and compatible current software; original 35S5783 regional lead remains distinct from the separately sourced US 35S5703.
